I actually prefer WinCo over walmart when it comes to groceries. If you're looking for anything else, walmart has then beat.

So I got randomly searched going back into Canada via the Peace Arch. my dashcam picked up the search...what bothers me is why the border guy is using a sharp blade to pry stuff off my engine bay and I thought I saw something fly outta there but then the dashcam is conveniently powered off.. it was late and I didn't really have a chance to look it over when I got home...but will do tomorrow. I think they had too much staff tonight and had nothing to do.

putting their grubby fingers over the dashcam, taking stuff apart in the engine bay...wtf. of course, 45mins later... I was handed my keys and told to go on my way.

Damn, all the times I've crossed the border, I had no idea there are two Dickey's BBQ Pit locations in the Bellingham area. I just ate at the Lynden location. Pretty decent for fast food. I'll have to go to the Ferndale location next.

Free wifi and free ice cream. Beats the free peanuts at Five Guys, lol.

For those of you who are planning on shopping at Costco in the US, as of today, they no longer accept American Express. It's Visa or cash. Thank god, 'cause I have the Amazon Visa card with no exchange transaction fee.

Can use it to get top tier Costco gas........... I guess I won't be getting gas at Fred Meyer's as much.

Gh0stRider 06-20-2016 07:56 PM

last time i was there, my visa card wouldn't work in store or at the gas stn. Only my amex would work

MG1 06-20-2016 08:16 PM

As of today.........................as stated in my post, lol.

Got e-mail from them today. I can't order anything worth shit from their website, but I'm on their e-mail list, hee hee.

Has anyone compared gas price between costco bellingham and stations in Blaine? is it just a few cents difference or a significant amount per gallon

MG1 06-20-2016 10:38 PM

Right now, Costco is $2.42, while it's $2.69 at USA Gas and $2.75 at Shell in Blaine.

You can find gas prices on-line...............

Just put in name of city and search. It even tells you which gas stations are top tier, for those who care.

I know it's probably covered somewhere in this thread.

when I go across, I typically fill up 2 x 20L jerry cans ... I'm thinking of adding 1 or 2 more to the trip totalling 4 cans @ 20L each.

what is the limit to bring back to Canada?

Any fuel outside your fuel tank is subject to taxes and duty. You don't get any exemptions for anything on a day trip

What shipper/holding company accepts big packages on pallets like engines or transmissions?

Plus, don't push it............. pretty soon they will start to crack down and we'll all be fuckussed. I usually take one 20L jerry can and sometimes none at all.

They usually wouldn't bother to harass you for one jerry can. They'll probably flag you, too.

If you declare it you're fine.

Went today to Costco, Bellingham and no issues with the fugly green Amazon Visa. Worked like a charm at the gas station.

On top of that, it worked at Trader Joe's! I could never get that freaking card to work at Trader Joe's. Swipe, chip, or tap. But, today, the tap worked flawlessly. Woo hoo..............

Went to Northwood Casino for exchange plus day. 10 points above exchange, so got 87 USD for 100 CAD. Not great, but.

They encourage you to play slots when you're there, so I played with the winnings I had from the seniors free money I get on Tuesdays. And, I won 10 bucks US. WIN! I also get a couple of their one dollar, chicken caesar wraps to go when I'm there. Such a frugal Asain, I am.

I go at least once a week to Bellingham and they haven't asked me what I'm bringing back for ages. They just ask me the value of items. I must have one of those old man, trusting faces.

I smile and try not to give them any Master Roshi or Mr. Miyagi looks.

Unless it's that really, really cute brown chick, who's usually at the Douglas Border Crossing.

Oh you've gotta be kidding! Doesn't ask for ZIP code, huh? That's awesome.

Will do that next time I'm down there instead of always trying to fish for the right amount of cash...

yray 06-22-2016 10:04 PM

^well i've been filling up at chevron and ampm once but that was in lyden.

I thought the ZIP code verification is dependent on the gas station rather than the card. I notice none of the border gas stations will ask for zip code. (I use a US addressed credit card and it never asks)

In any case, pro tip if they do ask for ZIP code on your credit card:
Take the numbers in your postal code and add 2 zeroes at the end for an instant ZIP code.

When is the busiest time to come back to Canada side? I heard the chances of getting taxed on merchandise is lower when it's busy.

snowball 06-27-2016 10:01 PM

Any holiday... if you want to wait 60-120 minutes lol

Shades 06-27-2016 10:19 PM

Maybe not holiday but what times specifically?
