Took less than 5-minutes on a Saturday at 11 AM and 15-minutes coming back at 5 PM Edit: Nexus lane |
I crossed on Aug 19 with my family. Been receiving a call from 888-336-7735 for the past few days, I ignored it thinking it was spam. I answered it today, was an automated call and it is from Border Services Health Canada, they knew when I crossed and confirmed my birthdate. It said I never submitted my day 1 covid test that was issued to me. I never received a test. My family was in the car and we were waved through Nexus.... In the prompts I selected that I was not aware I had to provide a test. I never received an email or anything. I called the number at the end of the message and she said I would have received an email with steps on completing the test. Anyone experience this? |
Yes, that happened to me too. I called them back and went through the same thing you did. I was told to call lifelabs regarding testing. So, I called lifelabs and explained everything all over again and they sent me an email saying that a kit has been registered, but I haven't received anything from them yet and that was in May. |

Finally crossed and hit TJ’s after 3 long years. Loaded up! ArriveCAN was relatively painless.. don’t know what the fuss is all about. Bellis Fair is a mere shadow of it’s former self. |

Coming back today, there was a pretty good line up at the Nexus lane (as in one) at the Douglas Border Crossing. Slow at first, then all of a sudden, they waved everybody through like the good ol' days of 40 years ago. They didn't even ask me how much I was bringing back. Just peered into the car and told me to move along. |
Dumb question, I know I need ArriveCAN to come back but is there anything I need to do to go into the US? Both the Canadian and US gov't sites only talk about what you need to do to come into Canada. |

Unless things have changed you legally require proof of vaccination to go into the US (however, after 20 or so crossings since it opened, I have never once been asked). |
Yah just keep your proof of vaccination on you or on your phone…. Same as immortality I’ve crossed like 40+ times and been asked once ever but they just asked if I was vaccinated they didn’t ask me to prove it lol That’s by car though… By air they want to see it. |
Yeah by car, assuming I can actually get my passport rushed on Friday lol. |

That's good to know, thanks. I'm planning to use that one on my way back. |
Just went to Pt Roberts for the first time since the pandemic. Lines into and out of Pt Roberts are super quiet, no line ups at all. Shops, gas stations in Pt Roberts are still pretty much like ghost town. You need Arrivcan on the way back. Picked up a refurbished cell phone for $240 US and got dinged ... because agents are super bored, they have nothing better to do than to write you up AND they need income ... I saw so many people pulled over for customs! Pre Pandemic, never got pulled over for items under $400! FWIW ... don't think I will ship anything over to Pt Roberts for a while, till they get busy again. Now with the customs, time to drive, gas to get there and back ... not sure if it's worth it. |
Fwiw, I go to PR almost weekly on average and I always have stuff over $200… I’ve been pulled in 3 times out of like 40 trips… 2 of those times I had like $600 of stuff so they’re not being crazy about it. |
Oh OK ... wonder what the threshold is? Or does it depend if agent is in a good mood or not. |
Legally and given that this example is for PR(Absence of less than 24 hours), there are no personal exemptions for same-day cross-border shoppers. So they could ding you for picking up a $1 valued package. Really depends on the agents mood. |
I find (strictly my experience) it depends what you're bringing in. Mostly I bring back toys -- model cars or action figures (Transformers, etc). I find when I say what I'm bringing they kind of roll their eyes because I'm like the 40 year old virgin or something and they find it silly and amusing... so I get a free pass. When I say I have auto parts, they tend to get a bit more serious and the wheels start turning... and all the times I've been in for taxes was because of auto parts. |
Most toys, models, etc. no matter where they are made, are duty free, so not worth their time to deal with it. |
I've been really lucky bringing stuff back over the truck crossing this summer. I've been in once in probably 15 times over the limit. |
Depends on the CBSA. My last trip through truck crossing, the CBSA sent me to secondary (I declared $300 of goods, $100 online orders & $200 groceries). They check up my entire car, and then told me to go. Like WTF, all that work and not even gonna write me up duties/taxes - makes no stupid sense. I initially thought duties/taxes, okay whatever - I declared everything, nothing I was hiding, but I guess either they are bored and need to pick a random person to inspect. |
It means they didn't trust your assessment. |
flying out to the USA at the end of the month and saw they now have a mobile passport control app to speed through the line. Anyone use it recently? |
All times are GMT -8. The time now is 01:20 PM. |
