looks like just getting everything shipped direct will work out about $30 cheaper and hopefully clear through customs easier with lowered values on each package...

I get that... but for ppl with US/CA citizenship, officials aren't allowed to stop a citizen at the border as per our/American charters/constitution.

So, if my buddy shows up at the border with passport (US for US, CA for CA)... what will happen?

He has Nexus... so he doesn't want to risk it to make a scene to just go and try it out himself... so I was wondering to see if anyone has attempted to do just that.

Then they would need to quarantine for 14 days when they come back.

"How long have you been in Canada? Oh, okay, park over there. Stay in your vehicle and wait for our people to approach your vehicle. Since you have dual citizenship, we are assuming you are coming to stay here, by choice. We have further questions and may test you afterward. This will take a while."

i was told legally they are not allowed to deny someone to return to their own country but I wouldn't risk it. Someone has been asking to pick up packages and i'm like.. yo... i ain't risking my nexus / citizenship / status cause I don't know you well enough... good point and it honestly ain't life and death product to pick up so fuck it.

Probably best if your buddy calls CBSA/CBP himself cause it's gonna be up to the discretion of the border agent

Yeah... he's going tomorrow as the family is really worried. So he's going to go and figure those things out on the way there by making a stop at the CBSA before reaching the US border.

And he's going to go regardless. He's WFH anyway, so, worst case is staying in Oregon for 2wks as self-quarantine.

He has to quarantine in Canada for 2 weeks when he gets back in Canada.

So let's say you're American living in Pt. Roberts. Would you be allowed to go to Bellingham? Obviously, you'd have to cross through Cdn border.

You'd figure a lot of them have boats of some kind? Not sure, but ferry service?

Yup... that was one of the funniest thing coming to mind 2 weeks ago when they shut the borders. So no, they are NOT allowed to cross to Canada.
They still get groceries at gas station as good and services delivery drivers are allowed to cross but that's it. You can't just say "I'm crossing to Canada to buy stuff in Bellingham", well, there's no way of tracking you and that's not essential travel.

It's actually cheaper to ship from the US directly to Canada, as opposed to shipping to 24/7 or 5d and getting them to forward it to Canada.

i.e. I ordered a push start button, just the cap, it's the size and half the weight of a toonie basically, 5d quoted me $32 USD to ship it to Canada. Had I got the retailer to ship it straight to Canada, it only would've been around $25 USD.

I have been quoted $65 usd to ship a 4lb 16x10x6 box.

Going to just wait it out or ask them to return to sender.

Lots of places will not ship to Canada so there’s no choice... I’m hoping we can cross before places start adding storage fees cuz the quotes I got for forwarding were bloody ridiculous.

That said I should qualify I’m talking about Point Roberts as I see it being no different than any part of Canada and no risk... I don’t think Blaine etc should be reopened anytime soon since it’s connected to the mainland. Good luck getting the government to customize that though.

Cannot believe I got an email telling me my Nexus application has been approved. Appointment is in early October. I applied in August of last year. The appointment is at the Nexus Urban Enrollment Centre on Main Street.

I can't believe it took you that long to get the Nexus (like both ways).

Although doesn't seem Nexus allowing one to go anywhere now.

I still have the Enhanced Drivers Licence, so it's a little better than going through regular lanes. If Canada had Ready Lanes, I wouldn't bother applying for the Nexus.

Anyway, the silver lining with this travel ban is I no longer have to worry about being harassed for crossing over to the US so often. I actually came close one year. I used to go multiple times a week, plus a couple of trips down to LA. 182 days is half a year, but going across for ten minutes to pick up a package from Sumas or Blaine, for example, counts as a full day.
