For the folks crossing PR, what was the return experience / requirements like? Based on the recent posts, I get the impression a negative covid test is no longer required to return to BC but hoping someone can confirm with recent experience in February?

^^ no mention of pcr or quarantine at the return border. Just make sure you get to the qr code page on the arrive can. I had issues today cuz someone in my party for some reason didn't get the qr code to show up even though everything was filled on the app. If you don't get the qr code make sure you exit everything and redo it.

I crossed last Saturday, no issues, just have the ArriveCan QR code ready.

I was down today, other than the Canadian border guard being a weirdo because he was training someone it was fine. Business as usual.

Anyone able to confirm?

It's been renewed monthly. It was up Feb 28 as well.

I've been down probably about 7 times the last 2.5 months... mostly trouble free and they never send me in for anything... but the last time a few days ago I had issues with a new guard I haven't seen there before, he wrote me up to go in over a pretty meagre amount of stuff to pay taxes, literally threw a test kit at me despite my hand being outstretched to just hand it to me... like he threw it over my hand into my car, hit my centre console and bounced into the passenger seat... and then when I was in paying taxes came out of the booth and demanded my keys to go search my car / was giving me grief about why I go there so often and asked me if I was "aware" that there's a pandemic.

P.S. that take home test kit / Lifelabs setup is a complete pain in the ass. Wasted like 2+ hours of my time in total setting up an account and scheduling a video session to do the test and then taking it to a Shoppers to drop off for shipment.

Went down last Saturday. Or I should say twice in one day. Along with some meager groceries we bought a couple bottles of wine at the International Marketplace for about $40USD. Declared it, but border guard wanted to ding us $37CAD in taxes. F that. Turned around and returned it just to see his face again when I crossed back. Other than that no test for both crossings. But had to fill out ArriveCAN twice.

I've never heard of that happening before. He really tried to tax you guys for 2-3 bottles of wine purchased for $40USD in total?

Was he a young or older CSBA agent?

Yup that's never happened to me before pre-covid with groceries. I guess I never really bring back alcohol on short trips <48hrs. Or outside of Duty Free stores. I was expecting $5 maybe $10 tax. The agent inside told me alcohol has a 87% markup. I literally told her to get the fuck out of here. She said I could abandon the bottles or go return them if I didn't want to pay. Since I was a 5 minute drive away I decided to go back.

Guard in the booth was a young white male. Possibly a Quebecois accent.

pre-covid i usually got the pass from 1 750ml bottle of wine, or a small/med case of beer. i'd be pressing my luck with a 18-24 case

are there that few young asian guys working or cbsa you can say "the"?

Shaved head and glasses?

I think we had the same guy. I made a complaint about him throwing the kit into my car.

Though alcohol is always a no-no on <24 hour crossings.

Nah, he had hair but with glasses.

Yeah lesson learned, no booze no matter how tempting the prices are. Unless I'm gone for more than 48hrs.

Yea back in the day they didn't care, I'd pretty much always buy a case of beer. Plus whatever I picked up. As long as you tell them what you bought. I guess they have nothing to do now since there's no line ups.

Back in my younger days I picked up a 24 of Busch or something like that for 12.99, while I went to Sumas to fill up. I got to the border, declared the 24 and the guy looked at me like was was an idiot. He’s like you’re really pushing your luck with that 24, I’m going to send you in and you’re going to have to pay 100%.. I was like welp, still cheaper than Canada by $15. He looked at me with disgust and said “have a nice day”

Has anyone gone through the rapid test to do a day trip down to WA? I’m seeing conflicting info on how to do it. I want to go down one day next week, coming back the same day. How did you go about it?

They’ll usually let you get away with a single bottle of wine. I’ve never had any problems with just one.

Read the thread... Point Roberts (Boundary Bay YDT) crossing only lol

Anywhere else (Pacific / Peace Arch / Sumas, etc) you need to do a supervised rapid test.

I don't think anyone is bothering because it's just as much a pain in the ass as it was before if not even MORE because at least before you had a 72-hr window it just cost more being a PCR test.

Now you need a rapid antigen test within 24-hrs of returning, but you have to do it supervised and signed off by a professional. Don't expect to just stop at Walgreens and buy a rapid test and do it yourself -- not sufficient.

Personally I'd wait until they lift that shit again.

I know, the rapid test is the PITA..

I have 2 sets of wheels, and a ton of parts down there I want to pick up. I'll give it a few more weeks and see if the testing is relaxed for day trips again.

I really hope so, if you're vaccinated it's completely baseless to request instant tests.

We can't even get them here unless you're at-risk or over 70... so why do you need one to come back from a day trip somewhere that happens to not be totally local. It's just bizarre.
