One common trait about Mainland Chinese is, a lot of them have this sense of entitlement that everyone else around them should cater to their inability to speak languages other than Mandarin. A lot of them also feel little incentive to learn languages other than Mandarin.

On the other hand, do you think the McD manager kicking her out stuff actually happened? Or was there some other sort of misunderstanding / back story behind it? It'd be nice to hear what the other side of the story is like...

Two official languages, English and French. There are no requirements to do anything above and beyond that.

If you come to Canada and try this shit on, there should be repercussions - did they not know Canada has two official languages before immigrating here? Yes, we're soft and allow large areas of non-English speakers, but that doesn't mean you should be able to demand it.

How are they trying to make this a charter challenge? The freedom to speak mandarin? The inability to have transactions in mandarin is some sort of discrimintation? I could care less what language they speak, but like I said in the sign thread, my cousins child had to be removed from the school he was at because he couldn't speak Chinese/mandarin. inside the class everyone could speak, but once the recess/lunch bell went, they all magically forgot how to speak English and made him an outcast.

why should they adapt? I tried that argument many times on RS and every response I would get was "why should we adapt when we can get by without learning English". I believe in the Richmond sign thread I was told that I should learn Chinese so I can adapt to them and eat and order off a menu in Richmond. granted its a Chinese restaurant, I shouldn't have to have a translator to pick items off a menu when they don't have pictures or any English underneath.

I heard from a friend that was at the location eating that they asked her to leave because she was causing a shitshow yelling in broken English and Chinese causing a scene. Guess they didn't mention that in the article. Probably a one sided story, would love to see the cameras from the incident.
