You should ask why they or someone else didn't offer to help if they were there. Not that they have the 'responsibility' to do so, but why not right?

I've seen so many times where mainlanders pick fights with service providers in HK, because the providers don't speak mandarin, and the mandarin speakers are unwilling to learn or even work with them. Twice I have seen minibus drivers flat out kick passengers off the bus! (students both times) :lawl:

But if you overhear that there's a problem, why not help?

EmperorIS 08-25-2013 08:58 PM

I remember when I used to work at retail, some china aunties would come up to me asking me some shit in mandarin. I'd tell them I don't speak mandarin and they'd just walk off looking pissed and head held up high. Fuck is that all about?

There are also language exchange ads. People wanting to learn Chinese will be happy to trade their English by doing meet ups and conversing in either language. Warning: a lot of scumbags try to use this as a dating service.

Oh shit, NOW you tell me!

Woman asks McDonald?s for apology | Vancouver 24 hrs

Quote:

Sun alleges that even when another McDonald’s staffer asked her what was wrong, the manager scolded him for interfering.
At this point, I am not sure who to believe since we don't have McD's side of the story. :okay:

I am honestly floored at the fact that this woman has actually been employed for a decade. I don't mean just in Canada, I mean in general..

probably a Walmart greeter

StylinRed 08-26-2013 12:11 PM

maybe she got an empty cup to go fill herself and that pissed her off because she didn't order a cup ;)

and when the employee pointed towards the drink dispenser she took that to mean "gtfo"

:lawl: i can actually see that happening

falcon 08-26-2013 12:37 PM

I had no problems ordering food at McDonalds in Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Never once really speaking the language of the area. Just point, say "combo/menu (means combo in german) and coffee. Or whatever. It's really quite easy.

When I get more pissed is when I go to a shop in Surrey or Richmond and can't communicate with the employee because they don't speak ENGLISH. That's what should be making the news, really...

Lomac 08-26-2013 03:01 PM

I'm curious why he brought the Charter of Rights and Freedoms into this. The only section that could potentially pertain to this is section 22, but it was really only intended to refer to Aboriginal languages.

godwin 08-26-2013 03:05 PM

Honestly I think it is a plot to further his own "career" using this incident. It seems the non english speakers are oblivious, it riled up the english speakers more than anything.

Hai Xia Sun, McDonald's Meet, Resolve Complaint

The complaint by Hai Xia Sun that she was discriminated against because of her accent in a B.C. fast food outlet has been resolved amicably, the McDonald's store owner said in a statement Monday.

full statement from store owner Joe Guzzo:

I met with the customer and her friend today. We had extended the invitation for the meeting to her son so we could engage in a face-to-face discussion and learn from the recent experience. It was a constructive meeting where I provided Ms. Sun and her friend with an apology for the misunderstanding which they have both accepted. We are extremely pleased to have reached a resolution..

Just watched CTV and Frank Zhao is still not pleased because they didn't apologize for the "right" reason..

meme405 08-26-2013 05:39 PM

This has gone way to far. Fucking idiot needs to go learn this nations fucking language.

Someone on the first page pointed out that driving tests are given in multiple languages.I had no idea they did that, that the biggest BS I have ever heard, you should be able to speak the language of whatever country you want to drive in before you go there and live there permanently.

Not really racist! 08-26-2013 06:04 PM

Lmao.... surprised Joe actually found the time to meet up with these morons

StylinRed 08-26-2013 06:09 PM

Well given his dedication to McDonalds I guess its no surprise that he would find the time just to give some pretty words to a crazy bat and her son

Fixed.
