did you mean nate diaz (vs jorge)?

if it's nick, i didn't even hear about this, what terrible promotion :lol

jake also fights welterweights, or in nate's case, a LW

if he's like 200-230lbs he needs to be taking on LHW or HW's if he wants to fight MMA fighters

Oh yeah, it was Nate lol. vs Jorge Masvidal in a boxing match that did like no PPV buys. They did have a pretty big attendance, but I imagine most of those were papered.

Quote:

Nate Diaz says he was promised $10 million for his fight with Jorge Masvidal ... but he claims he never got 90% of the cash -- and now, he's suing to get money he says he rightly deserves!

The former UFC star's attorney, Jeremiah Reynolds, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Miami on Monday ... less than two weeks after he and Masvidal squared off in a boxing match at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Diaz claims in the suit, obtained by TMZ Sports, that before he ever stepped in the ring with Game Bred ... he made a deal with promoter Solomon Engel and his company, Fanmio, in which he agreed to take the bout in exchange for a $9 million payday.

But Diaz says after he beat Masvidal on July 6 in a 10-round clash ... Engel refused to pay up. According to Diaz, Engel said he couldn't supply the funds because he didn't profit off the fight like he expected.

The lawsuit also claims Engel told Diaz he couldn't pay him, despite verbal and written agreements, because his wife might divorce him over the financial loss.

Diaz is suing for fraud and breach of contract ... stating in the documents that he would have never have gotten in the ring with Masvidal if he knew he wasn't getting paid.

MMA new rules:

12-6 elbow now allowed (this was banned in the 90's due to seeing people break bricks with karate chops and elbows)

New rule for "downed opponent" is "any part of their body other than hands or feet". So you can't just put one hand down on the ground to cheat the rule.

These should be adopted by most state commissions.

mikemhg 07-26-2024 09:17 AM

This is awesome, although somewhat late to finally update the rules.

The lay and pray stuff of the 2000s is long gone, UFC has pretty much become 80% full standup fights, but better now then never to make this change.

whitev70r 07-28-2024 04:49 AM

Apparently, we have a new welterweight champion from UFC 304. See you later Leon ... hello Belah Mihammed.

Brutal head slam ... Leon probably has a massive headache! I mean ... this looks very dangerous ... like potental paralysis dangerous !!

GLOW 07-29-2024 08:45 AM

kind of boring event i enjoyed the pre-lims more.
highlight was at the end of belal's interview he made a crack about DC's weight, and then DC got him back by calling him Leon Rocky Edwards by "accident" :lol

An update on this. They came to a settlement but THE JUDGE REFUSED TO ALLOW IT, saying it wasn't nearly enough, so now they go to trial. Neither side wanted this, for various reasons, but it will be in the hands of a jury now. The initial ask was $800 million to $1.6 BILLION, and they settled at $335 million but judge thinks it should be higher. TKO will be on the hook for that if a jury decides a boxing style of revenue split is fair (and why wouldn't they?)

Fighters have been getting cucked for decades, tried to get a little bit back, got them to agree to giving some back, and the judge just said fuck that, if you guys won't protect yourselves, The People will do it for you.

This is earth shattering news for TKO, and could have ramifications for how they run their business (not just UFC but possibly WWE as well). And right when TV negotiations are about to start!

I've never heard of something like this happening, so when it's a sport I follow (although not nearly as closely as before) I am pretty blown away.

SkinnyPupp 07-31-2024 10:02 PM

Keep in mind that the judge is basing total damage * 3, so the 800 million becomes $2.4 billion in damages. And if the jury agrees with the 1.6 billion number, look out.

To give an idea on how much these 1200 fighters might get with a new settlement, Brock Lesnar's payout would go from around $3.5 million to $40 million. That's for the top level fighters of the time. Tom Lawler says he figures he'll get about $130K from the first settlement of $335 million. That would become around $1.5 million for him.

This would obviously be devastating, maybe kill the company

Speaking of Filthy, we finally figured out how he (and many others) got busted for doping ostarine in those years... Apparently you can absorb it through someone's sweat if they're taking it.

mikemhg 08-18-2024 09:39 AM

Welp, Izzy lost me $50 last night :lol

whitev70r 08-18-2024 12:03 PM

there was a UFC event last night?

mikemhg 08-18-2024 01:16 PM

Yup Izzy against DDP

whitev70r 08-18-2024 03:46 PM

saw the highlights ... both fighers were sharp! Izzy was going strong till that one combination in the 4th which led to DDP on his back -> choke submission.

mikemhg 08-18-2024 04:13 PM

Was a good fight, almost seemed like Izzy quit at the end there.

I swear life is a simulation, every time I don't put money on my picks, I choose the winners, every time I put money down, I lose :lol

Adesanya definitely quit.
He was winning through 3.5 rounds

Du Plessis was tired as f--ked.

P0NYB0Y 08-19-2024 04:15 PM

I don't care what any of you say, I put $1000 on DDP, and I'm the happiest man ever. Looks like the tank beat the sniper, and I ain't surprised

SkinnyPupp 09-14-2024 06:37 PM

Anyone watching the biggest MMA show in the history of the world with a $23 million gate and biggest PPV prebuy rate ever? It's happening right now at The Sphere

SkinnyPupp 09-14-2024 09:31 PM

Ribovics vs Zellhuber is a FOTYC

Shev vs Grasso was great for 3 rounds but .. no spoilers

Main event starting now

whitev70r 09-15-2024 06:45 AM

Didn't watch but it looks like we have a new bantamweight champ. All of the main card fights were won by decision! What happened to cocky O'Malley?

I don't follow UFC closely so I was somewhat shocked he was a champion. He looked slow. Just outclassed and outworked for 5 rounds. Finally did some damage with body kicks in the last minute but ran out of time

GLOW 10-07-2024 09:53 AM

i forgot wonder boy was fighting on prelims against buckley.
the end though FeelsBadMan

roundtree did well against alex, better than most.

hill's getting roasted for 'yawning' at the end, and when alex made a light joke he got on twitter being outraged :lol

i dunno if he's trying to make himself unlikeable and play a villian arc or what 4Head

mikemhg 10-07-2024 10:44 AM

Definitely playing the villain.

He knows Alex is too well-liked, he won't win that likability factor, so you might as well go all in on being the heel.

whitev70r 10-26-2024 06:42 PM

Holloway KO'd for the 1st time in his career by Topuria

Brutal submission by Chimaev on Whittaker

whitev70r 11-17-2024 10:07 PM

just saw some news about UFC 309 which happened yesterday in NY, Madison Square Garden. Jones TKO Miocic and Oliveira won in a 5 round decision over Chandler. I saw like NO promotions about this!

SkinnyPupp 11-18-2024 01:15 AM

Main event was Tyson level sad, as Bones just picked apart a 62 year old Steve The Firefighter who had lead in his shoes. He'll keep dodging actual fighters until they pay him a fuck ton of money, I guess

Oliveira fight was very fun

There was a lot of Donald Trump and Elon on this show. They were hanging dong on everyone who doesn't like them. A big F-U to average viewers and non-Americans lol. Trump was dancing, then Bones did the dance and shouted him out. Trump tried to get Oliveira's attention when he stepped outside, but Charles totally ignored him.

mikemhg 11-19-2024 09:27 AM

I love how Charles ignored Trump like that, he's a real one. He did it in a respectful way too, very slick.

Made me sick watching Jones shucking and jiving like that for Trump, and he's one of my favorite fighters.
