yeah... might as well hand Mercedes the drivers and constructor's championship..

Hamilton and Rosberg shall battle it out
Game over when they push, last race they opened up what, a 20 second gap in ten laps after the safety car?

:fuckthatshit:

StylinRed 04-19-2014 12:18 AM

glad Vettel is not dominating anymore. F1 was starting to get boring.

Vettel isn't dominating but MB is, which imho, makes it no better. I thought the last half of yesterdays race was boring.

Not really racist! 04-20-2014 09:45 PM

This season is already worse than last season for me

Top 2 + Constructor's Championship determined already by 3/4 races into the season and the rest of the field is lucky Mercedes isn't pushing to manage their cars or else they'd lap everyone twice (srs)
And there's no chance for the rest of the field to catch up due to the engine homologation rules and the engines sound terrible.

Everyone hates on Seb and RBR cause they kept dominating the last 4 seasons but this season is the same but instead of Seb and RBR, it's Lewis and Merc.

Noran 04-21-2014 01:36 AM

I think Ferrari has a good chance of catching Mercedes. At around 40 laps in Fernando was only 5-6s behind Lewis.

For me, it's because I see Lewis as a likeable guy and I never saw Vettel the same way. A shame really because Vettel is one of the best drivers, but was never able to build any relationship with the fans like Lewis has.

Also, I feel like the on-track rivalry between Nico and Lewis has been more entertaining (so far) than Vettel and Webber was for the past couple seasons. This could turn into a season of epic teammate battles, which will make for good entertainment. Watching the MB fight in Bahrain was some of the most exciting racing we've seen in the past few seasons, reminded me a bit of the close wheel-to-wheel racing that was common during the 1990s.

Eff-1 04-21-2014 09:03 AM

The season is still very young. If the expected improvements to RBR and Ferarri can increase performance when the European season starts, we could have some exciting racing yet to come.

BBMme 04-21-2014 10:37 AM

I'm loving this season so far

Maybe a little too technical for me but I'm sure someone here can appreciate this

Mercedes

If we compare the component installations on Mercedes' and Renault's power units, it is easy to see how different their concepts are. One of the fundamental requirements of a turbocharged engine is to reduce the temperature of the charge air (the blue part of the turbo) - the cooler this charge air is, the more power the engine will produce. Unlike Renault, Mercedes have separated the hot side of the turbo (in red) from the cold side (in blue) and have the MGU-H mounted in the 'V' of the engine between the two parts of the turbo. This has two main advantages: firstly, the heat transfer between the two parts of the turbo is minimised, so less cooling is required to keep the charge air temperature down (or if the same cooling capacity is used, the charge air temperature will be lower, giving more power to the rear wheels). Secondly, having the MGU-H mounted between the two sides of the turbo could allow Mercedes to have either or both sides working through one-way clutches, making the complete unit more efficient. Basically the exhaust gases coming out of the engine on the hot side of the turbo only ever have to drive the cold side of the turbo and or the MGU-H, creating electrical power from this component and feeding it directly to the MGU-K. The MGU-H only ever has to drive the cold side of the turbo, increasing the charge air pressure, thus reducing turbo lag and increasing power. The potential advantages of the Mercedes concept could be significant over the course of the season, especially as retro fitting a similar solution will be very difficult for the other power unit manufacturers.

One of the fundamental requirements of a turbocharged engine is to reduce the temperature of the charge air (the blue part of the turbo) - the cooler this charge air is, the more power the engine will produce. Unlike Mercedes, Renault have the hot side of the turbo (shown in red) bolted directly to the cold side (in blue). There is heat insulation between them, but there will inevitably still be a lot of heat transfer between the two parts, meaning that a larger intercooler and more airflow will have to be used to reduce the charge air temperature. Mounted to the cold side of the turbo is the MGU-H, which will drive or be driven by the turbo through a central shaft. With this packaging both turbo elements will be driven simultaneously (whereas Mercedes' solution offers the possibility of driving the two elements independently).

Haha! I guess you never watched the season in which LH first entered F1. He's definitely more likeable now!

My sentiments exactly.

Red Bull will never catch up because the Renault engine is a dog. Mercedes has not even been pushing their cars close to the limit.

It's safe to say that the new rules which were supposed to make for closer racing kinda backfired.

It's kind of absurd they put an development freeze on what are completely new engine designs. They should have opened development on the new motors for at least a season or two, it would have allowed the competition to even up.

Part of me thinks that F1 management had some backroom deals with Mercedes when they were dreaming up the rule changes.

Isn't red bull switching to cosworth power soon?

godwin 04-21-2014 04:03 PM
