Yeah it's like the GT86 and how many times it was pushed back...

Done.

twitchyzero 02-07-2017 04:58 PM

is this going to be more BMW or Toyota?
the 86 is more Subaru than it is Toyota
let's hope it's not built in North America

glad it's finally coming after dozens of fan-rendering (the above is one)...16 freaking years!

What I find annoying about the Japanese manufacturers and their sports cars is how much they hype them (or how much the media hypes them) and how involved they are with drawing attention.

I didn't find the release of the NSX the least bit exciting because of how many times we've heard about the car coming out and how we already expected it.

I was FAR more excited about the surprise introduction of the new Ford GT than the NSX during the auto show.

I think it's the same as the Supra..I'm just not excited for it even if we are approaching the pre-production stage because of how much it's been covered and hyped...

flagella 02-07-2017 06:29 PM

Lol NSX hype was so tiring. It lasted so long that after several years I stopped caring.

snowball 02-07-2017 09:18 PM

been a while since new pics but... I'm worried

Has the NSX been released yet?
I know Jay Leno bought one, then nothing......

yeah that pic has been floating around but I doubt it. Just look at wheels, brakes and wheel gap. There's no flying fucking way that's the new Supra.

After all the buzz...I don't think Toyota would be dumb enough to do that, especially when NSX and GT-R are there to compete.

I think those pics might be new 86 or Celica?

2017 Acura NSX 9DCT for $245,800 in Vancouver | autoTRADER.ca

twitchyzero 02-09-2017 12:57 AM

the new NSX sales are hurting
they moved only 200 units in the first 6 months

Does anyone own one/know anyone who owns one? What made you pick it over the competition? I mean we're talking about R8/AMG GT/911T/i8....even the aging GT-R.

dark0821 02-09-2017 08:11 PM

^ I want to say to be unique?

I cant imagine anyone who will buy it as their first supercar.... I mean unless you are like a die-hard honda fan or smth....

like it pains me to say, because I love, and love the LFA, but if my garage only allowed me to have one supercar, I would've gotten a Ferrari... because.. ya, now if I already have a Ferrari/Mclaren.. then yea, I will totally pick up a LFA and DD the shit out of that thing...

I imagine the people who got the NSX probably already have like a ferrari, lambo and what not... so they pick this up as a DD or smth.... I personally know someone who owns a 458 and bought a R35 just because it is not worth putting miles on the 458 constantly

That supra rendering is pretty tame. Still handsome though.

took a look (not to buy lol) at one at the Acura dealer a month ago. It was elegant and sharp but not overly imposing.

Its in a weird segment. It probably isn't going to take sales away from a 911T or GT3 as I think Porsche buyers are probably only looking at Porsches. It doesn't have the name to take sales from Aston Martin. It isnt a Super car so it isnt going to compete with McLaren, Ferrari and Lambo. So its market is basically someone whos looking at an R8. But compared to the R8 you get a hell of alot of tech and a way more advanced car.

Its a great car, just not sure whos going to buy it. $200-$225k. FWIW The one in Kelowna is sold.

twitchyzero 02-09-2017 09:35 PM

mfw used R8 are still 6-figures
they've been 50-60k USD stateside for a while now.

The previous gen NSX was $142,000 in Canada. ($88,845 US)

The NSX was NEVER a popular seller.

People called it a poor man's Ferrari, Ferrari knock off, Ferrari wannabe, over priced Honda, and you would often hear "only 290hp for $142k, are you kidding me?" blah blah blah ...

NSX was a very niche car and only very few people understood the history behind it and what it's worth.
It was also substantially more than Dodge Viper GTS and Porsche 911, a lot of people couldn't understand why Honda would ever worth that much.

Gordon Murray said that if he was to give McLaren F1 10/10, he would give NSX 7/10, and Ferrari and Lamborghini are only 2/10 or 3/10.

some stuff has surfaced... usual disclaimer about this stuff applies:

Toyota Supra Specs Leaked, Pegged to Get 335 Horsepower - The Drive

Quote:

n the same night Toyota released the first official teaser shot of the upcoming Supra, new specs for the to-be-revived Japanese sports car have surfaced.

According to scans of Japan's Best Car magazine obtained by a SupraMKV.com forum member and reported by Car and Driver, Toyota's next sports car (or one of its four alleged variants, at least) will be powered by a 335-horsepower, 3.0-liter, turbocharged straight-six courtesy of development partner BMW. Allegedly good for 332 pound-feet of torque, the Bavarian engine will also offer 37 pound-feet of additional overboost. The report goes on to detail an eight-speed automatic transmission and some tight exterior dimensions. The jury is still out on manual transmission availability.

If Best Car mag is to be believed, the new Supra will be 5.4 inches shorter end-to-end, 1.7 inches wider, and an inch taller than the old MkIV it's set to succeed. With an alleged curb weight of 3,284 pounds, the MkV will be 177 pounds lighter than the turbocharged version of the now-legendary '90s hero it replaces. Connecting the rear-drive coupe to the road are a set of 225/50R17 tires in the front and 255/45R17 rubbers in the rear. While 17-inch wheels might sound small for modern performance car standards, we expect beefier rims to come with higher trims and available as an option.

In an email to The Drive, a Toyota spokesperson "unfortunately cannot comment on what was recently published." Look for the resurrected Toyota Supra to finally show its face Mar. 6 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Dbone 02-14-2018 11:51 AM

So 20 years on and it's basically the same spec. That's a little underwhelming.
