Yep, but luckily the owner of the local VW dealership use to own an R8 so I can get maintenance done cheaper there and they are down the street. The Audi dealership is in Victoria. But thats still better than the guys in Calgary that use to have take there Lambo's to Vancouver for servicing.

Jeremy clarkson said the gt86 was one of the best cars he's ever driven, and he's driven everything, EVERYTHING!

The 86 looks better imo, but i like aggressive looks and JDM... I'm also a huge ricer, you may have other aesthetic interests.

The money you save you can use to build a Porsche competitor.

So because someone could buy a Miata and make it faster than a 458 spyder, should they? The whole "buy this car that's much cheaper and use the money you saved to make it faster than the expensive car!!!" is just stupid.

i think the reason why clarkson liked it is because he has driven everything. he is able to see what the 86 for what it is rather than what it isn't. for most regular people who have no driven every single car in the world and can only afford to own 1-2 car, there is so many "i wish i have this and that" when it comes to 86.

also keep in mind clarkson was not daily driving the 86 he was driving it in a way that was clearly bias towards the 86. sheer hooligan, hooning the shit out it.

86 is simply just an immature fun car

Another thing with Porsches is resale. Most people want to see stacks and stacks of documentation to ensure that car was taken care of properly. Seeing a bunch of invoices from a Porsche dealership vs. Midas / Mr. Lube / Random Richmond Speed shop could make or break your car's value regardless of it's FAIR market value.

FWIW, Clarkson didn't like the 968 in his original test drive way back when.

What could it possibly need every 8-10k that would cost 1000 fucking dollars? I mean, I understand big dollars on a high priced mid engined semi-exotic like an R8, but non AMG merc? (I'd assume you would have mentioned it since you mentioned 4matic) What a joke.

He's lying. My oil change (Service A) in mercedes terms on my S-Class is only $350. When I changed my transmission fluid (Service D? every 60,000km) thats the only time it went to $1000.

Unless he has an AMG.

Have not had my first service but will soon. It does take 12 liters of oil.

^ stealership rip off imo. The Aston Martin dealership wanted $1200 for an oil change. Oil alone was $20/ litre x 10L = $200. Oil filter and bolts were $180!!!. The rest is dealer mark up. They tell you they check and lube a bunch of stuff.....I think it is a little more work on my car due the dry sump set up.

I got my oil change at my buddy's shop for $500. Not exactly rocket science.

What kind of engine oil does an R8 take?

man, I spend $20 for the oil and filter on my 07 Focus and that's good enough for me

for my e30 I give it diesel 15w40 oil and it seems very happy on that

It is not about the materials cost (Oil, Filter...etc.)
It is those heavy labor charge mostly.

Castrol Syntec 5W40 is recommended.

swapped cars with my friend's frs this week. fun little car. love the driving position and the shifter feel. And personally, I like the look of a lightly modded frs more than a cayman.

This. For resale, you're more likely to get a buyer that doesn't overly care about having all receipts/invoices with the 86 compared to the Porsche. The majority of Porsche owners who actually know what they're doing (and have the $$ to back it up) are very anal, and you can't blame them - one missing inspection or adjustment and it could potentially mean a repair costing thousands to fix

Whoa, whoa, whoa, which Ford dealer is this? Both oil changes have been right around $100 each for me, and mine's only a V6 (yours is a GT, right?) :O

I sold my 996 GT3 privately last spring and serviced my car at my friend's shop. Of course all buyers want to see Porsche dealership service records Vs indy shop service records. To me and most car enthusiasts, it is important to talk with the owner (not some shady used car dealer) of the car. You can tell allot from talking with the owner (dumbass or car enthusiast who is anal), seeing how they take care of their house, and what other toys he/she has. I have no issue buying used privately as well as long as I have confidence in the owner. To finalize any purchase I always get a PPI done to ensure I am not buying a lemon.

GT. my last oil change was at brown bros. but now that i'm thinking about there was one of those ford promotion deals for a winter service package where the oil change was part of a winterizing thing. ford dosen't send you those in the mail?
