Spoiler!

Yeah let's compare a $350 phone to a $800 iPhone. Very fair comparison! :failed:

To be fair they did say their phone is the flagship killer so I don't see what we can't compare it to an iPhone, Note4, M8 etc etc........

Spoiler!

I think you got a bad one. My phone has been great, so I'm not sure what's going on with yours.

- Capacitive buttons are dim, yeah this is an error in manufacturing, but if you haven't memorized what they do by now then I don't know what to say

- No brown tint on mine

- Only time the screen is unresponsive for me is occasionally when I try to draw my pattern to unlock, and it's only once. This is annoying but I've gotten used to it

- Pretty damn white to me. I'd rather have a less-white-white, than deal with IOS

- No issues with the sleep/wake button. And I have "double tap to wake" enabled so I rarely use the button

- One thing Apple does best is cameras, I'll give them that. It's obvious they have a whole team who optimizes exposure/focus settings for the auto camera. If I could take one thing from an iphone it would be the camera. The front facing camera on the OPO is pretty rough

- Compared to my Nexus 5, the battery is phenomenal. My N5 battery would be dead at 8pm every day.

I'm really happy with my OPO it's like a bigger, better N5. Going back to IOS is never going to happen; when I pick up an iphone, and navigate thru, it's like using an ancient relic. Just so archaic.

I had the first iphone back in the day the 2G. Went down to the Bellevue Apple store and bought one, brought it back up and jailbroke it. At the time, it was leagues better than everything. Blackberries were the only competitor.

Now, Iphones aren't better, or worse, I just consider them on par, spec-wise. But IOS is what does it in for me; I just can't use that shit anymore.

The things I mentioned are defective issues that occur during manufacturing process. If I had gotten perfectly working OnePlus One (problem free) then there would be nothing to complain about. I know how much phone costs and don't need you to remind me that.

two biggest concerns if you are thinking of buying an OpO:

1. high chance of receiving a phone with some sort of defect (could be very minor but a defect is a defect)
2. no after-sales customer service, warranty is none existant
This is a risk associated with buying a chinese phone but the market has shown that chinese phones are here to stay and becoming more and more dominant/desirable

inv4zn 12-16-2014 08:52 AM

^I don't so much hate iOS.

It's iTunes that really rustles my jimmies.

Fuck I hate that piece of shit software.

Gululu 12-16-2014 09:13 AM

average battery life nothing spectacular, 100% stock everything
(notice i enabled on-screen nav bar to block out some of that brown tint near the bottom)

Expresso 12-16-2014 09:25 AM

^^^That is average??? You have some high expectations man. 24+ hours and 7 hours of screen time holy crap that is impressive.

I love how you hate the phone though, but you keep buying them for "friends". I guess you don't like your friends very much.

FerrariEnzo 12-16-2014 09:33 AM

so a phone having a huge 5.5" display with 7hrs of screen on time is avg...
BTW, if you add "l" lowercase L, just before the extention, if will make a large thumbnail, which will be smaller then that huge image you have...

On a side note,
I havent notice any colour issues on my phone...

willystyle 12-16-2014 10:24 AM

The yellow tint issue has been beaten to death. It was a manufacturing defect and from what I read has been fixed in recent batches.

The yellow tint goes away after two months of normal use OR if you put your phone under UV light (for ex. at a nail salon) for 10 minutes. The yellow tint disappears immediately.

Price does matter in comparisons. You were comparing brightness and sharpness on a OPO vs iPhone 6+. I would EXPECT an iPhone that cost 2 times more to have a better screen.

All phones come with defect in hardware or software, that includes your high-end iPhone 6+. There's no perfect phone. It's wishful thinking to believe that you can buy a phone without defects.

gars 12-16-2014 11:02 AM

I have a few friends with the 6+ and all of their phones have been slightly bent from putting it in their pocket. Not noticeable if you're holding it, but noticeable if you put it down on a table. It would drive me insane if that happened to my phone!

Bro, 11% of your battery is used by youtube, which is streaming multimedia.....

Your screen is on and your internet is going crazy... Your battery life is fine.

are you watching movies on your phone all day?? 7 hours and 30 min of your screen being on is quite a bit.. I probably don't have it on for more than 2,, Depending on the day I guess

I'm refering to 1+'s JDI IPS display, still not as bright or nearly as sharp as 6 Plus'. Anyone know why?

I'm not sure how do you define "sharp". Your images are HUGE, but still fuzzy and low quality. It's really hard to tell. The only thing definitive is that the Iphone has smaller (and nicer) font, but font type and size doesn't equate to "sharpness".

I'm not sure how bright you need the screen to be... When I max out my OPO's screen, it's like bright like a fluorescent light bulb. I usually keep my screen at around 10% brightness indoors. At this point, I'm not sure if you're comparing practical brightness or just peak brightness for benchmark purposes.

Reading your list, you definitely got a faulty OnePlus One.

Spoiler!

here is a list of things thats wrong with my OnePlus:

- Capacitive buttons are very difficult to see because they are dimly lit and there is no way to adjust their brightness

You can change the capacitive button brightness in the settings. Although at 100%, they are still dim. Maybe a bit of trouble in the sun, but indoors, it's perfectly bright enough. But I believe capacitive buttons are meant to be used by memorization, not by touch. It's not an iPhone or Galaxy where you can rely on the feel of the center physical button.

- yellow/brown tint at the bottom of screen

Faulty phone. I understand, and error is still an error by OnePlus, but it's not permanent with a lot of solutions posted online.

- screen is unresponsive sometimes have to repeat same motion twice or three times

Although I admit at times, I have to do the same motion multiple times, I realize it's because certain actions aren't very forgiving. Such as double tapping the taskbar to sleep is not that forgiving. You have to be quite accurate where you tap. When you double tap to sleep, there's a slight "cooldown" period before you can double tap again to wake up the screen. Might not apply to you, but I use this feature and that's what I have noticed.

- the color of the display is not true. not as White and sharp as the 6+'

The display on the iPhone is definitely more "white" as shown in the image, and the OPO does look a bit darker. But you have to remember that RS's background is not actually white. That iPhone image is displaying a more white than RS's actual background colour. Perhaps you have to factor in that maybe iPhone is extremely white, make it not that true either. But this is also assuming the screen brightness are at the correct settings, as it's shades of colours will vary depending on screen brightness.

- sleep/wake button is unresponsive at times, 75% of times it works on one click, other times have to press two times with force

The actual buttons are perfectly fine for me. Never had an issue that required multiple presses.

- Camera is not as good as advertised. noise and color is worse than 6+. the focus is so slow and always blurry for some reason.

Camera is decent... Most reviews I read said you need to play around with settings so it's not as auto-pilot, out of the box as an iPhone. But I will admit iOS has one of the best and fastest (shutter) cameras out there.

- battery is okay; can easily standby 30+ hours with 6-8 hrs screen on time

You said the battery is about as good as the iPhone6 Plus. Is there a phone out there with even better battery life that is the same size? I'm not exactly sure what you would consider impressive. And once again, practical wise, no one in this day and age wouldn't be able to get their phone to a charger within 24 hrs.

At the time of release, Flagship Killer was true compared to the M8, G3, and obviously the flagships of 2013. etc. Newer phones like the Note4 and iPhone6 Plus will have an edge in the specs. TBH, It's kind of common sense that "flagship killer" was a bold statement coming from a new brand trying to seek attention, not a literal fact that was expected to be applicable forever.

Possibly cost $600 at release as well.

It will not be $350USD.

Won't be buying another 1+1 at all. TOO many issue. Phone is just sitting in my desk collecting desk. Too bad the phone is awesome when it ACTUALLY works. Other times is annoying as hell when it didn't work.

Cool story. I don't even know your stance on this or any other phone for that matter since your comments seem to vary day to day.

edit: no need to explain your stance btw

I am one of the many ppl with the Wifi issue. Can't turn WiFi back on after you been disconnected from Wifi. Only fix is to manually turn the phone off and on again. Works fine for a about a week then it just started having issue a few days ago. Also the phone screen would will not turn on randomly. Is just a black screen calls came through, I can still receive message. The only fix is again turn the phone off and on again. Factory reset fixes both issue for about half a day. I don't have any battery saving app running so is not any 3rd party app causing any issue.

So now I have a phone that needs to power cycle everytime I am disconnect from Wifi, a phone with a screen that randomly goes black. So instead of saying is annoying and the phones have issue I should give it a 10/10 for the issues I am having?

FerrariEnzo 12-16-2014 02:34 PM

what rom are you using? if your still on stock, I suggest rooting and use another rom.

Not really racist! 12-16-2014 02:44 PM

i'd like to think HappySlip got a defective phone because he was moaning about this phone and still CHOSE to buy it

funny how the world works

Well for sure you're not going to be the only one in the world with that issue. There's no need to show us OP threads to prove it. Unfortunately, you had a shitty experience in what worked perfectly fine for a lot of others (who didn't bother posting about it in the forum, therefore skewing the negative to positive ratio).

The only problem with your post was that you sounded like a whiner as if every OPO was terrible. Anyway, I understand. I had a bad experience with HTC in the past, and that's all it took for me to never go HTC again. That's fine. Hopefully you find a solution to fix your OPO in the future though.

I actually recommend factory reset and don't root and mess around.
Bricked my phone within the first few days and then got scared to play around with it after I fixed it. But so far, 0 problems ever since.
