I've gone through a ton of first and second gen CR-V's and as with most things, it comes down to maintenance.

Basically, what happens is by the time it changes hands a bunch of times, the less chances they did regular maintenance on them. I've sold a bunch of tranny's for first gens and maybe only a couple for second gens. This one would have the 4spd (05/06 are 5spd) behind a K24. Since the original owner is selling it, you should be able to get a good idea if it's been taken care of or not.

1995 Nissan Maxima - 133k - $1800 obo

the Camry listing says "garage kept." It is in fact SO garage kept that the owner refuses to even take it out of the garage to photograph it for the ad....

And the maxima owner has the same affliction.

If I was a flipper, this is exactly the sort of shit I would look for.

As long as the photos are clear, whats wrong with it being shot inside a garage? At least the pics are well lighted and not just a random single picture taken of a car parked on the street.

Teriyaki 05-01-2020 03:48 PM

That Maxima has a stupid low amount of miles on it for being that old. Back in the day, I was looking into this gen Maxima's as it was the generation when they still made em to last and not just fast (VQ im lookin at you)

dont know actual availability but TRD v6 brand new is 36k
that actually seems like a good deal

jmanhas 05-01-2020 05:24 PM

This car seems like a really well priced car in comparison to other listings, and it looks pretty damn mint for its age. No obvious curbage on wheels either!

nothing "wrong" with it but it's not the most effective strategy to market the thing one is trying to sell. The owner has added more pics in the last 2 hours including interior and engine bay shots but when it was first posted up on here it had 2 pics of the drivers side of the car and a picture of the inside of the trunk.

lol - i looked at this car in surrey 2? years ago

guy had it in some sketchy side lot. we were told when we got to the gate that if anybody asked we were "highschool buddies" of the seller. Car was up to its axles in mud, owner had no keys, claimed he's spent 10k on the matte black paintjob and the top was half open.

he told me it was 1k away from being worth 15k. What a joke.

To be fair, it looks like it's been cleaned up. I assume a new owner. There could be decent money in the part out at this point if the S52 proves out good numbers.

I'd pay 2k - (but i won't)

s52 2k
zf trans 500
rear drop out 1k
misc 1k

Spoiler!

That generation of maxima had a vq30...

Color me corrected. I always associated the VQ with the later Maxima (6th gen?) for some reason along with their other products that had quality issues.

sonick 05-02-2020 10:24 AM

VQs have historically been known to be very good engines, often winning Ward's Best Engine lists each year. Maybe that's changed with the newer ones.

They’re good except for emissions controls equipment problems, lots of our fleet had major issues / costly repairs for that stuff earlier than one might expect.

Problem with Maxima and Altima is they turned into Japanese Buicks at some point... big, heavy, nose heavy especially... the more recent gen of Altima in particular was downright dangerous on hard cornering, I never clenched my ass in any other car doing “spirited” highway driving, but the way the front refused to bite and the rear wandered on the Altimas was particularly unnerving.

Sounds like something GS8 would appreciate. :lol

68style 05-02-2020 03:11 PM

I think Buick’s track better (not race track, but keep their line)

Can you elaborate on the fleet issues that you were having? Is O2/cat related?

I had a 3.0 Litre Maxima as well.. it is a little newer than the one posted.

MAF sensor problems..
i had the model where it had electronic engine mounts that short the ECU..
my model is notorious for the coil pack problems too...

The 4GR-FSE in these are notorious for bad carbon buildup. None of them are a good buy if you factor that in. The 2G/3G IS250s were the only Toyota cars in North America that had this motor.

While I totally agree that 15g''s is a good deal for the level of performance you get, according to VMR Canada that car with that trim is only worth about 11g wholesale and 13g's retail. So technically, it's kinda overpriced.

If it were stick, then yeah...it would easily be worth it's price

68style 05-04-2020 08:34 AM

Oh yah? What’s the book trade-in and retail on a 94 Supra? 05 s2000?

lol
