I've seen it discussed on here that chevon 94 octane is generally to 91 inferior in terms of knock resistance

There are a few US tuners who claim Chevron 94 is closer to an 89-90 based on their experience, whereas Shell 91 is much more consistent.

What's very odd is that it seems like most cars in the Okanagan are tuned on Chevron 94 specifically. My (late) M3 and a built GR STI are two that come to mind. It might be just the shop tho, both were built by Four Function in Kelowna.

I asked about it when buying my M3, and apparently the gas in the Okanagan is just pretty crappy/old especially for 91+. So they typically go with the ones that has more boats going through or smt.

My old focus ST was tuned for 94, it was okay but trips to the interior were annoying. My current RS I was briefly tuned on 94 but it was absolutely not worth it. Every tank was super inconsistent, and we were able to keep the timing curve just about the same using 91, so that’s what I’m running now.

91+WMI > 94 any day of the week

There was a thread from a Revscene member who did extensive testing based on dyno results on Chevron 94 vs. 91 (any brand) and then with American fuels. The conclusion drawn from the comparisons was that Chevron 94 yielded inconsistent data for hp/tq, whereas Shell 91 or American 91 octane provided consistent results. If my memory serves me correct, the key was consistency of WHP, as opposed to "Which fuel gave me the highest hp/tq values."

What do you guys think of this one? Price and mileage is very good for a 6 speed NB2, but the engine bay seems to have quite a bit of rusty hardware (was it originally an east coast car, or is it parked close to the seaside?). I'd love to check this out myself but I can't step away from the mainland atm.

2002 Mazda Miata 6spd - $6,000.00

Selling my '02 miata
6-speed
third owner
no accidents (clean title)
well maintained
tires less than year old
only modification is the radio
Wheels could do with a refinish, see picture
msg me if you have any questions or to setup a time to see the car

Interior looks pretty tired at that mileage (or it could be shitty quality from the image compression), along with the wheels and noted rusty parts.

Decent deal if it has A/C.

Can confirm the gas here is pretty shitty. I've had two bad tanks (the way the car felt I think it was 87) and when I tried a bit of 91 it would drive okay but absolutely no WOT or high boost or it would run poorly. It's so bad I've considered adding some way to quickly drain the fuel system because puttering around for hundreds of km sucks.

Can't verify if it works. But I know a friend used octane booster when he ran out of E85. Car wasn't tuned on E85, it was a jdm import, so he found that Canadian gas wasn't cutting it.

The PO of my M3 also said that the car ran better with a bottle of octane booster + Shell 91, as compared to just running pure Chevron 94.

No A/C but has ABS, can't tell if it has the LSD (I think it does but need to confirm). That driver's seat bolster is beat up pretty good.

I would find a NB to be hard to live with minus A/C and it runs $2K to put one in but if you can live without it then I'd say it's ok for $500-1000 less than listed.

The last time I checked that stuff only raises octane by something like 0.1. I think toluene is the best thing to use but I'd need a ton of it to get 87 up to 94, not to mention the tank will be nearly full.

With torco you can add 1L of it to a 5 gallon Jerry can of 91 and get 105 octane. A liter of it is like $50 though

Some googling;

https://fortnine.ca/en/maxima-hi-tes...D_BwE#493=2070

"Hi-Test should be used in concentrations of one to four ounces per gallon of gasoline. One ounce per gallon raises the effective octane number approximately four points, depending on the base gasoline octane."

So one bottle will take 60l of fuel from 87-91 in theory.

Roll bar with stock seats, congratulations, the driver and passenger are now less safe. Put some racing seats in if one must have a roll bar.

Are they really less safe? 99% of NA miatas i see with rolls bars (not style bars) don't have racing seats. One would think a bar is better than no bar as long as your head is not touching said bar. You're kinda screwed if you're rolling a NA anyways, no?
