rebuilt status but price reflects that, one of the remote well operators that comes to my site has that Toyota v8 with over 750000kms, he must be 75-80 years old and he always pops the hood and places a loonie on edge to show everyone how smooth it idles

I don't know anything about Karmann Ghias but they're kinda cool and it comes across as a deal. Thoughts CCA-Dave?

Karmann Ghia 1972

CCA-Dave 12-10-2014 05:08 PM

Wow, that's a clean example. Ghia's are famous for front end rot in the fenders, and as there are no repair panels available it's extremely time consuming and expensive to repair/restore them. Usually you find the best parts car you can afford, and then start welding in tiny patches at a time until you have all steel up front. If this one really is a no-accident, rust-free example...it's worth money.

Purists will have issues with some of the non-factory changes to the car. But things like door panels can always be replaced, and the missing trim could be put back on the car if you were so inclined (I'd leave it). Floor pan should be checked for rust, battery tray is the most common starting point. The heater channels (rockers) should also be checked carefully. Duane's German is a good shop and honest, if they say the car is good I'd be inclined to trust their judgement. Doesn't hurt to call the shop before taking a look.

$7k might seem a bit high for a VW at this time of year, but I'd call that a fair price if the front end is bondo and rust free.

Hold the phone here. So he did a 4.7L V8 swap? That's effin sweet! Usually it's the 1UZ 4.0L that guys use but a 4.7L must be awesome. Would still be a bit hesitant due to the rebuilt status but how it received a branded title would be good info to know.

The poor canadian dollar right now negates most of that value unfortunately. Nice car though.

You guys are quick! I've actually spoken to the current owner a few times. He says the vehicle was written off in 2009 for a frontal collision most likely with an animal as they had found bits of skin on the vehicle. He had repaired it in 2010 independently so there is no repair cost on paper. He no longer has the receipt of the repair either. The shop replaced the bumper, fenders, headlights, windshield, and radiator. He claims there was no frame/engine damage, but everyone says that lol. At this point I'm a bit uneasy but I think I'll test drive it anyway.

[Edit] Car was from Toronto, just got here this February.
[Edit 2] Seller dropped price to $4900. Accident was estimated at $13,500, seller claims he fixed it for $5,000. PM for Carproof if anyone is interested.

just curious but why? i remember the ej22 to be bombproof but gutless as hell...

CCA-Dave 12-11-2014 06:32 PM

It's a 1968 Volkswagen Single Cab pickup truck. The factory single-port engine had roughly 50hp, the Dual-Port I have in it now might have 60hp on a good day if it was freshly rebuilt...it's not.

So, even an underpowered EJ22 is going to feel like a hot-rod in comparison. I almost bought a complete 2015 STi drivetrain with zero miles for it, but wisely invested in my business instead.

1973 Midget, comes with hard top and soft top for $3k. Something seems off about that? Too Cheap. Good starter classic for sure though.

1973 MG Midget - Collector Car

Four door '74 Nova, $2800. I know the four doors are certainly frowned upon. But man this would be a great/hilarious car for things like Thunderbird rally (TSD, winter) and RWD winter fun. Get it for $2250 and I think you've done well.

1974 Chevy Nova

1987 Scirocco 16v $3800, rebuild status.
Looks clean, probably priced a little high...but these are destined for RetroCar status (if they aren't already there). It has the right engine, and from the sounds of it repairing the issues it has wouldn't be a problem. I'm not a fan of the painted lowers & wheel arches, but it was definitely the "thing to do" in the 90's and early 2000's. Rust free examples are almost impossible to find, so inspect carefully...

wow im glad I test drove this RSX I looked at today for more than a few mins

So long story short email the dude, ask strait up if theres anything wrong with it and he said nope I wouldn't waste your time its mechanically perfect, so I was like alright, go to Burnaby and he takes me for a test drive but something seemed off about him.. I asked how long he had it for and he said 2 years.... then I test drive it and instantly notice the syncro from 3rd to 4th is completely done.. clunks / grinds hard unless you double clutch.

He was asking 7900 for the car and other than the trans the car seemed fine for the most part... So I obviously tell him the transmission has the issue and he acts all shocked saying wow that's the first time its done that, it never happened with me driving it ever, and im thinking wtf lol what the hell are the chances of that? so anyways I just politely decline buying the car and leave

When i got home I noticed he removed the CL ad and then I stumbled across this ad on kijiji (below) he clearly bought and is trying to flip and leave someone else with the trans issue which is a big $$ fix. but was completely acting like there wasn't anything wrong with the trans

2002 Acura RSX Type S Coupe (2 door) | cars & trucks | Abbotsford | Kijiji

So beware guys.. he got the fender and bumper fixed and taillights are stock now but the trans is done and still has the exhaust leak, he told me its not been in any accidents either.. Theres nothing wrong with buying and flipping vehicles but don't bullshit and waste peoples time.. ffs.. I hate car shopping on craigslist lol

TouringTeg 12-12-2014 02:55 PM

Love those Sciroccos and Corrados. I agree I think they are destined to be classics. Same goes for the CRX

FS: 2000 Acura Integra Type-R *IMMACULATE*

CLEAN!!! ACURA TYPE R DC2

I have been looking for a long time for a clean and mint type r and checked this out last night. It is by far the cleanest I've looked at! I just spent over 12k on my house (renos) and It couldn't be worse timing for me. I'm sure it wont last long as he had three people looking at it last night alone.
All top of the line parts and the car runs amazing. I brought my friend who is an acura mechanic and he was very impressed with it.

Someone jump on this!

SpeedStars 12-12-2014 07:50 PM

I can attest to that car being MINT MINT MINT! Always see it at AHM and its one of the cleanest ITRs out there
