It's too hard to put a price on a car like that. You could never build a mk1 that nice for that price from a stock car. If that's the style you want I think it's well worth it. I mean, 11k isn't a ton of money. |

i wonder what the interior is like. no pics just says recaro. |
I'd say 9k is a reasonable offer. The owner of that car has to understand it's going to take a very specific buyer to purchase this car. |
9g's is still a lot of money for it. I'd say 7 would be fair for the right buyer. It's a modified 30 year old car. Not quite a classic. Although getting pretty darn close. Nostalgic car for me. |
If that was originally from West Van, I'm pretty sure I sold him the clipper kit. |
9 is reasonable, in fact, that would be my offer in a take it or leave it situation. 7 is a stretch IMO. Dem lines. |
Spoiler! aww its so cuute :QQ: |

the problem with MK1 and MK2 VW's is how easy it is/was to poorly modify them. Looking at the photos he's posted in the ad, there is no way of knowing if the car is *really* worth 7, 9 or 10k. I'd agree 11k is a stretch, even if it were perfect. But if the paint is flawed, the interior worn and/or the electrical sketchy the car would become a 7 or less real quick. The lack of interior shots leads skeptical me to believe it just has the optional VW recaro interior. While fantastic at the time it could be a real let down on this car. If we give the benefit of the doubt, and say the exterior of the car is flawless, any wear on the inside of the car is going to be a let-down. If it were perfect, there'd be photos? If the car is flawless and a show winner on exterior, interior and engine bay. Sure, $11k could be a fair price, though a long and hard sell for that money. $7-9k and it should go relatively 'quickly'. MK1's and MK2's have certainly hit "RetroCar" status, but they need to be either bone-stock, or tastefully modified in a way which is "timeless". Many of the traditional mods done in the 80's and 90's appear very dated now, and are not going to help the value appreciate. -Dave |

I'm pretty picky though. See the bubbles just above the rear fender? http://images.craigslist.org/00o0o_c...It_600x450.jpg Those bubbles make this Bug a parts car to me. The rear C-Pillars rot out on the 71+ Beetles, due to VW spraying expanding-foam insulation into the pillars. The foam was sprayed for sound reasons, and allows moisture to sit on the metal inside the pillar. Any 71+ beetle you see with rust in the C Pillars is rotting from the inside out. It's a real pain in the A** to repair. While possible, it's just easier to find a southern or rust-free example. This particular Mission car *might* be rusting from the fender holes up, but it's almost guaranteed it's not. Regardless, there is no way they'll go from $4500 down to what I'm willing to spend on a car with rust repair needed :P http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/661089.jpg Very little VW will be making it's way into my next project. I need a clean body shell, clean floor pan and the rest is being acquired from other sources. Should end up making the #rallybug look tame. -Dave |
