Think it's a status thing to have a LHD Euro car in Japan - I've seen LHD cars from Japan before, and they're almost always European.

Here's a link I found:

hud 91gt 08-02-2023 10:35 AM

If I’m not mistaken. All BMWs in Japan are LHD

68style 08-02-2023 10:37 AM

I've seen quite a few RHD 1 series hatchbacks when I've been looking at Japan imports... so they definitely have some RHD BMW's over there

Depends on a few factors. Some already have.

they are both. They aren't just euro imported cars either - they are often japan market specific.

there seems to be less late model LHD than there used to be tho.

Yah I noticed this too, you could on on the search site before and put in LHD as a filter and there were quite a few fun things to look at... but now it's like 10 results lol

JDMDreams 08-02-2023 12:25 PM

I wanted a 1 hatch but they were all rhd locally and I didn't want to bother with rhd BMW

Look at that ass ... Beauty !!

Love me a mint P2. That thing is cleeeeeeean. But they're asking R prices for a T5 (even though it's a wagon). FourC suspension is going to break any day now :heckno:

Someone posted up a V70 from Japan on Craiglist that was LHD. Info display was in Japanese and they had checker pattern carpets.

Which reminds me

Gotta see what kind of SAABs they got on auction over there

Posting this because I actually met the seller in North Van during the first Tofu meet of 2023. Super nice guy who fell in love with my Infiniti. I don't know what issues the car is having but I saw the car in person and it looked in pretty decent shape (some paint issues). Definitely a car I'd consider for a luxury grocery getter / future winter beater.

whitev70r 08-03-2023 08:14 AM

Yah so question about this made for European market, shipped to Japan, then imported back to NA ... are there any major concerns? I'd think it be 10x better than a RHD JDM. If car was manufactured for European market ... LHD, got low mileage, what issues are there to be worried about? Odometer? Computer reading? Can language be simply reset?

whitev70r 08-03-2023 08:18 AM

Speaking of Saabs ... 2011 9-3 Turbo, 50K kms (yes, that low, not sure if that's good or bad), $12,900 ... have no idea if that's a good price.

This was such a fantastic movie.

68style 08-03-2023 09:19 AM

That Saab is in nice condition, but all the must have factors are missing....... no manual and it's a 2011, so even with Saab being defunct you can't get collector plates for it until 2026.

JDMDreams 08-03-2023 09:51 AM

Isn't that the GM era Saab so it's not as good as real Saab?

The issue with JDM is that even in euros they have fancy in dash units that we never got, and there's no English menus. Some older ones your can change language but I don't think you can on the newer one's. Ie look at all the JDM Lexus Toyota coming in, it's the same deck, and cluster but all in Japanese. Not sure if you can just swap in na navi and cluster? :okay:

like in general? no matter what car you're buying you should do diligence. an auction sheet might help. If the car is here - just google the VIN. Probably get a hit from an auction at some point. In my case the car was already landed, and the importer actually put it up on a lift for me so I could inspect it myself.

quirks from my zed 3 (LHD, "euro spec" delivered new to Japan, exported here in 2015?). In the case of BMW the cars were built for Japan. JPN is stamped in the cluster (look for this when shopping for 90's 00's BMW's here)

-all the manuals are in japanese
-factory stereos use different radio bands
-factory alarm uses different system (I was still able to order a spare key from the BMW dealer, but we had to do some googling to program the remotes)
-headlights may have been modified for left road side cutoffs (could cause grief at the initial OOP inspection) May need DRL also. My importer cheated both of those requirements and I undid his hacks 10 minutes after buying.

biggest thing was how much wiring I had to cut out of the car. There are so many bullshit toll readers, nav systems, power distribution blocks etc. I spent a few days removing every single non oem wire on the car. It was worth it - no gremlins.

whitev70r 08-03-2023 10:08 AM

Ah ... yah ... those particularities like manuals in Japanese, radio different bands, etc. Thanks.

JDMDreams 08-03-2023 10:21 AM

Yea cuz the newer cars has so much tech that was so advanced that you really can't just rip it out and replace with aftermarket. Everything is tied into the screen, navi, front, side camera, lane keep, mpg, car info, tv, gps, parking sensors, climate etc. You lose all that if you take out the oem screen.

Time to find a JDM girl :ifyouknow:

The Producer 08-03-2023 10:35 AM

depends - if we're still talking about euro cars. If I imported a Mk5 R32 Golf (I have seriously considered doing so) a 200 dollar CL north american OEM take off radio would restore all of that.

Language changes can also be coded.

radeonboy 08-04-2023 09:26 AM

It's now or never to get one of these in mint condition! I'd love to have one of these if I that kind of "just for the lols" money

I have an Autotrader Email alert set up for these in case one day I cave and buy one lol. ICBC data shows only 7 units registered in the province so they're hard to come by, especially a local BC unit.

Thank goodness my money's tied up right now, else....:heckno:

westopher 08-04-2023 10:46 AM

Lol $2100 for that would still be a bad buy.

$2,100 and that's my new winter beater so I can be top down year round.

TopsyCrett 08-04-2023 12:16 PM

the murano crosscab is not a want, but an absolute need for any real car enthusiast in BC.

It's THE perfect car for this province. Carve the sea to sky in an open top sports car, then bomb service roads to explore BC's nature. C'mon people wake up.
