I wouldn't want to be the person who bought a C8 in the last couple of years anticipating a flip for profit. I think there are enough C8's in the market now, with Z06's, ERay's and ZR1's coming out that the days of driving and flipping a C8 are over. Now that the prices have come down to earth I'm thinking about selling my 996 C4S for a C8 (but not this one.)

Tell me about this C4S......
I'm definitely thinking about replacing the e30 with something newer and more practical but still impractical.

bcuzracecarz 01-04-2024 07:37 PM

I really like the e30 but man I would love to see you in a P car

Is an E39 M5 impractical enough

I love the e39 m5 but too big for a fun car for me.

The e30 is a total dream car, but it's old, like really old. In a way that I feel I need to baby it. No salt, no heavy rain, it's a little too fragile.
I'd love a special car that I don't feel bad doing a snowboard trip to whistler in. The e36 can do that, but I want something that does what the e36 does that isn't the e36.

JDMDreams 01-04-2024 09:21 PM

I'm interested in c4s lately to but if IMS doesn't get you bore score will eventually

68style 01-04-2024 09:26 PM

LOL $30k for a M5 with terrible photos, "things to do" and 265000kms on it.

westopher 01-04-2024 09:28 PM

No bore scoring on 996s, that's a 997 thing and definitely a big reason I'm not as interested in them. IMS can be dealt with. Bore scoring is rebuild time and I've heard it's like years waits to get good builders to deal with it.

dark0821 01-04-2024 09:40 PM

As much as I hate the C8... getting one brand new below MSRP is a good deal.

I can't afford it, and just like someone mentioned, I am just... not into the styling, and + if I were to pay this amount of money for anything 4 wheels, I will take the slower 3 pedal option.. so that kinda just eliminates the C8 hahahaha

(the only exceptions to the 3 pedal rule toy car is a 458, LFA and ..........R35... I still cant comprehend how a R35 drives... no matter how many times I drive one)...

Having said all that... Mid engine NA V8 with these performance numbers + a full warranty under 100K so it skirts the Luxury tax is most defn a bargain in today's market.

Have you ever considered FWD and Honda? Me neither. It has the same random shit breaking as a BMW that I love and I do everything with it. Friend's moving? Need a truck? The Civic Type R can do it. No sound deadening though but you can fit a family in it

snowfarmer 01-05-2024 05:00 AM

I'll DM you.

Are you sure about that? I thought it was 996 and 997.1 with the potential issue, excluding turbos/GT cars.

bcrdukes 01-05-2024 06:15 AM

Bore scoring is more of a 997.1 thing, especially Canadian-based cars. 996 isn't really known for bore scoring unless owner really neglects the car, but ones mileage may vary so it's always good to do your due diligence. You are right about the Mezger engines being the exception.

TjAlmeida 01-05-2024 06:30 AM

Bore scoring is a M9X problem.

Dbone 01-05-2024 06:47 AM

Fair enough. Perhaps I was confusing with the IMS issue.. it has been a while since I looked into it.

It's possible that it happens, but I do know with the 997 it's more of a when than if. I've honestly never heard of someone with the issue on the 996, and I've spent a lot more time reading about them than 997s over the years.

hud 91gt 01-05-2024 07:27 AM

Sell the E30 to me. I’ll drive it on gravel and salt lol! Everything can be fixed! Honestly though, and S54 E30 Touring would be way cool… and you wouldn’t have to feel bad about bagging on it.

I’m finding out quickly with a growing family I need a 4 seater fun car. Porsche would do well, and for some reason I feel the urge for a stupid convertible…. Yet every time I’m in one I want the top up. Hahaha.

westopher 01-05-2024 07:34 AM

That's the other factor is the family thing. I want to take my daughter in the car often. I feel totally comfortable doing that in the e36, but the e30 is too far down the safety ladder. I know the e36 is a can as well, but it's like a corrugated 2.84L tomato paste can where the e30 is like a pop can lol.

Badhobz 01-05-2024 08:57 AM

just preserve that e30. value is only going up. By the time ze little one is driving age, you'll be sitting on the equivalent of her college fund

bcrdukes 01-05-2024 09:49 AM

Personally, having owned a 996 and 986, I feel IMS is a bit overblown. Just find a car/owner who does routine oil changes and drives the car regularly.

68style 01-05-2024 10:03 AM

What isn't overblown in Porschephile land... can't even read pelican forums without putting on belted shorts and boating shoes.

JDMDreams 01-05-2024 10:50 AM

How much are e30 worth? You don't even see them for sale. I assume they didn't make many. E36 e46s are still $20000 $25000

Are you looking for a 996, Westopher? I think a certain RS-er is looking to move on from his, so you might want to reach out to him to discuss.

The Producer 01-05-2024 11:10 AM

not many "good buys" in the local Porsche scene yet. It's coming, but dudes are still holding out

This C4S has been for sale for a few weeks. Personally it doesn't bother me that the IMS hasn't been done - but it's a layup for negotiation. There's actually a set of arctic silver hardback seats for sale right now too. Would fix what this car is missing - to me anyways.

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3940448266808/

BTW - bore scoring is just as prevalent in the M96 as the M97. Maybe it's overshadowed by the 996 IMS so people don't talk about it as much?

No matter what - spend the 500 bucks and get it scoped.

4 years of pain free ownership w my 996. It's been a wonderful car to own.

hud 91gt 01-05-2024 11:16 AM

Anyone ever own a Panamera? I could see that being an illogical daily which can still pull a boat. Roof rack and I can haul a couple sheets of plywood to boot.
