I'm gonna have to side with troll Face on this one, I'm not in the market for a $30k shit box more like $10k but things are definitely dropping based on the cars I follow, yes not golf r but over all prices are dropping. Or they just sit for a long time. Buddy guys are still trying to ask for $9000 for a crv :lawl:

Given how the interest rates are, ICBC tax, gas prices high things are sitting around much longer even interesting cars

trollface 05-03-2023 11:10 AM

I'm not looking for anything crazy. 40k I'm a buyer. We're pretty close.

disclosure - owner is a buddy. Very well taken care of. ~12k USD is about as low as they go these days in the whole NA market. If you've been wanting one of these, this is a good honest car to get into them with.

I messaged the girl selling the manual turquoise coloured Golf R in Calgary, it’s got 46,000kms on it but she wants $49,999 haha fuck… guess she’s counting on her IG clout selling it for her.

I told her in as nice a way as possible that she’s about $7k over other Spektrums that have sold with similar mileage but good luck with the sale.

How to buy the car you want from a private seller, this method will not work on "priced to sell" cars:

1. Wait until car is on market for a week, month or longer is best.

2. Get your friends to "inquire" about the car, then beat the price down over the span of x days/weeks

3. If you are really greasy, post fake ads with similar spec but x,xxx to xx,xxx cheaper, get your friends to "compare" this car to theirs.

4. Once seller is questioning their list price, you come in for the kill. At this point:
4.1 the seller is tired of dealing with BS
4.2 the seller thinks it might actually be over priced

Be a salesman, be greasy

Wouldn't it be better to buy a lower KM one at $44,000 vs $37K @ 72,000KM

You add another 72,000KM and it's worth maybe $23K vs $44,000 drive 50,000KM and sell at $37K.

radeonboy 05-03-2023 11:48 PM

This one seems pretty reasonable, I would pony up the extra $2k for this one and call it a day.

Looking for DSG, that and hiking to Alberta really makes no sense.

My transport costs are going to delete any savings (which there is none to start with).

Badhobz 05-04-2023 07:14 AM

:suspicious::suspicious: you want a DSG over a 6 speed manual? ya do know that DSG service is like almost 1000 bucks.

I got the DSG on my sportwagen before only because the wife might accidently need to drive it. I regret it everyday. That and they didnt make the sportwagen in highline trim with the 6 speed + 4motion in 2017.

Yes, the launches are SAVAGE

tofu1413 05-04-2023 08:47 AM

I quite liked my DSG on my Golf R.

Just couldnt figure out why the autohold release was so jerky on mine. that was the only complaint. it was great for daily duty.

@badhobz - we got mid 30s for our DC5 ITR in winter, price is about right, but that one is nowhere near as nice as the one that we sold.

The Golf R was built/tuned/designed with the DSG in mind. The manual is basically the GTI manual... it's weak, and not especially nice to shift. The DSG was the better transmission for the Golf R. Plus it's stupid fast and savage on launches. The fast Golf R guys at auto-x or track are mostly running DSGs, and tuned to ~400whp on stock DSG clutch. The manual can't handle that without an upgraded clutch.

tofu, autohold might have to do with the e-brake? Might be that the e-brake actuator was a little sticky.

trollface 05-04-2023 09:21 AM

Plus, it farts.

Badhobz 05-04-2023 09:25 AM

my DSG experience was pretty bad. it was jerky for no reason. It would lurch without warning and it made me want the ratrolla LE CVT. thats how bad it was on the sportwagen. I asked openroad VW and they tried to DSG flush it, reset it, update the software and still it occasionally lurched 1->2.

It wasnt very smooth.

The 1-2 shift was the worst, generally, for the 6-speed DSGs. You had to drive them like a manual, and lift off between 1-2 haha. You might have gotten a particularly bad unit? The 6-speed is the 1st gen DSG, so it was also the roughest shifting.

The 6-speed DSG was great if you drove it aggressively and caned it around, but around town for sure it was not the smoothest unit. The 7-speeds in the Golf R were much better as they were 2nd gen.

i don't use autohold. Fortunately unlike auto stop/start, autohold remembers your setting and doesn't have to be disabled at each start up.

it can be a little disconcerting sometimes. if you're facing downhill and want to back into a parking spot, it'll def roll forward on you. I hit the switch on now when i'm going to do something like that.

DSG has been great. Responsive, smooth and sport shift mode is pretty smart. I don't bother to manually shift this car - the trans logic is more than good enough.

tofu1413 05-04-2023 09:43 AM

been having pretty good luck with DSG/ DCT boxes here on my end, with the exception of the ralliart lancer box... ugh.

the DSG is fantastic and the current household TT-RS box has been working flawlessly. Brutal launches!!!
