Toyota Mr2 SW20

$4400 for a non turbo MR2 in questionable condition is not a good buy

underscore 10-06-2015 09:57 PM

^ USDM makes it worse. Low k, so good candidate for a swap of some kind though

If you could get it for 3k then it seems like it would be a decent deal and a fun winter car. Don't see many of those around, especially kinda modded.

definitely a good candidate for a swap though for someone wanting a 2nd mr2 or side project. with the cad exchange rate, this is a good deal esp since it's a usdm hardtop with cloth interior. pretty much the lightest sw20 chassis you can get. it has power steering to boot. but for someone wanting to buy it as their one car to daily, not worth it. can get beater turbos for that price.

There's no power steering in this particular car. There's even a picture of the frunk and you can see that there's a big blank space where the pump & reservoir would be. PS was an option in the US.

With everything I've dealt with on my "cheap" GTFour, the last thing I'd suggest to anyone is a beater turbo MR2 or Celica.

woops. saw the sticker on the steering column cover in the frunk and thought ps right away. so essentially this car is the 91/93 version of what your car was like, minus it's already a 5 speed.

That Subaru posted a few above is an option though...

It's not a bad buy. It's not like their are a multitude of MR2s out there. If it's been well maintained, I think it's worth it. $4400 for a turbo? Either it's rebuilt, JDM, or trashed.

and deal with the rust right away, especially if it's going to be a winter beater. once the rust really sets in on that vintage it will eat it alive :(

Priced a little high perhaps? Seems legit though.

Maybe if it was under 90K km mileage, but that's high.

Price is 100% firm. Will not take $1 under $17500
But, I was ready with my $17499 offer... :okay:

dared3vil0 10-07-2015 12:44 PM

Someone please email him an offer of $17,499. :lawl:

white rocket 10-07-2015 01:08 PM

Honestly, given the current market, that's not a ridiculous price at all. That's only $13,300USD and that price range in the US doesn't get you this quality of an ITR. Different markets altogether though.

Can't really comment on maintenance, but it is missing all of the plastic shrouding in the front and the front bumper has been replaced with a non OEM unit which makes me very suspicious that it's been hit in the front... nevermind the terrible front strut tower brace that doesn't even bolt to the firewall like the stock or TRD ones do.

It's not a turbo and it won't be without $5k+ getting dropped into it unless someone is a backyard mechanic extraordinaire... it also doesn't have a limited slip and first gen brakes/suspension. The 5SFE is only 140hp on a good day and slowwwwwwwwwww.

As someone mentioned, it's one saving grace is that it's a hardtop, which is somewhat rare. Project for someone who will do all the work themselves and has a source on parts at best. Even then they'll be way underwater on this financially after any kind of work.

The Cusco brace doesn't bolt to the fire wall. :fullofwin:

68style, you are doing a great job of devaluing MR2. You're supposed to say that thing is worth $8K easy and yours is easily double that!

Like white rocket posting $17500 ITRs as good deal.

If you can talk the guy down on price this is a perfect candidate for a modernized NA swap though, like a BEAMS, 2GR or 1/3MZ. For the cost I don't see the point of doing a turbo swap anymore.

Here is a LHD MR2 turbo for $6000 299kms but with a full inspection I wouldn't hesitate.

That sw20 for $4400 is a bad buy. I went to look at it and there was obvious front end damage even though the ad said no accidents.

The fenders do not line up with the bumper. Bumper has tape holding together the lower portion. There are various dents along the body in areas where I don't see it being repairable without spending $$$$.

Interior, after market steering wheel with cables poking out, stereo was missing.

Unless you have the time and money to repair it I wouldn't recommend anyone wasting their time. The kid bought it a month ago and barely knows anything about it.
