My experience is the opposite but I spend money to maintain it. Drivetrain is solid but that doesn't suggest service can be skipped.

The saying 'it treats you as good as you treat it' especially applies to older Mercedes.

Any idea how much it ended up going for? After looking atht epictures again, the undercarriage was probably too far gone.

These are never a good buy. Terrible build quality, flimsy cheap parts, expensive to maintain, very unreliable, few aftermarket support, shitty dealer network. From personal experience. Park for a week and the battery goes dead. Park in the rain and interior floods, door leather then swells and peels, door, trunk, and gas door latches seizes due to water intrusion. Park in the sun, all the plastics turn gray and cracks, leather shrinks. Getting to the engine is rear clam off. Getting to the rad, ac, wipers, brake stuff, front clam off. It has stupid tire sizes that no one stocks. ECU that can randomly forget if the car is AT or MT. Stock engine tune that is so bad that it knocks and pings on 94. Rev-hang and slow throttle response. Superchargers that grenade. The list goes on. It is outclassed specs wise by everything else in the same category and price range.
