I was checking out some e36 M3 vids at the ridge today before I went to work. Can't wait!

boatcaptain 06-01-2014 12:12 AM

jus came across this video.

dared3vil0 06-01-2014 09:33 AM

Well the first heat was insanely fun, managed to spin on my first run :lawl: last two runs were way better haha.

Just think about the seat time you got today. Multiply that by 10 and you are looking at a track day.:hotbaby: Addicted you will be.....

I need proper tires first. One day of autocross and the outside edge of the tires are almost down to wear bars. Literally.

Where those horizontal grooves are, they used to be substantial, and only a few mm wide. Look at 'em now!

You can see how they're supposed to look; keep in mind these tires are only a few months old

westopher 06-01-2014 05:25 PM

You're over thinking it. You need a ton of camber for autocross to keep from eating outside tread on your tires and that being said, its not going to hurt the way they drive by any stretch. You will find on a road course you are going to be driving a lot faster, and hopefully, if you plan on staying on the track, a lot smoother. Autocross is 10/10ths, track days are 7/10ths for beginners. Its a lot different driving, and has a different effect on the car. The tight corners in autocross are going to put the average driver into a world of understeer.

dared3vil0 06-01-2014 05:29 PM

^ I did notice the understeer, but for the most part it was relatively easy to bring it back in line with a blip of the throttle.

I'd still like to do a few more days of Autocross to learn more 10/10 car control before i do a track day. I figure with a track day for a noob like me being 7/10, if i have some experience at the limit with autocross i'd feel more comfortable.

Now MB_ on to those pics of me spinning out in a big smoke show!

EDIT: I'd also like to say a massive thanks to any of the "instructors" who rode along with me today to help, your advice (and directions so i don't get lost) were insanely helpful. (i'd imagine one or two of them are on here...)

westopher 06-01-2014 05:33 PM

I do agree with getting more seat time before you hit the track. I didn't do it, but I'm old as fuck and years of driving experience do count for something.:okay: Just more trying to give you some facts so you don't get too worried about minor issues!

boatcaptain 06-01-2014 06:26 PM

now im worried. im attending two tracks days in a row with zero experience at autox

westopher 06-01-2014 06:29 PM

You will be in the novice group so you will be with an instructor. Don't worry. They will keep your right foot where it needs to be. I was more saying it specifically to dared3vil0 because he wants to gain confidence before he steps up to it. Everyone will be different for their level of comfort.

Don't worry about it. I presume on your first track day you're attending a school, or at least a club that's going to require you do some laps with an instructor. While any type of experience (autoX, rallyX, iceX, years of road driving) are going to be helpful...they aren't required.
