found a very good video

westopher 07-03-2014 09:44 AM

Looks like I'm done for the year. Need a new motor.

boatcaptain 07-03-2014 09:47 AM

:( somethin wrong with the block?

Traum 07-03-2014 09:52 AM

Aww shxt... that sucks... :(

Are you considering an engine rebuild, used engine drop-in, or something else? I remember you looking to get into an e30 or some sort. Perhaps now would be the time to accelerate that plan?

white rocket 07-03-2014 09:53 AM

serious? man, that sucks :( Did you get a diag from CG? Are we talking piston/valve contact?

westopher 07-03-2014 09:59 AM

Its at CG but it sounds like bent valves. Terrible compression in cyl 6. Nothing confirmed yet but thats their suspicion. The thing is I don't know how. It was a 6k shift from first to second where the misfire appeared. Car has never been overrevved or overheated, and has 134K. Not sure what the plan is from here. Its going to get fixed, but not sure what extent I'll need to go to fix it. If I can swap an s54 from an e46 m3 in for not a crazy amount more than a rebuilt engine I'll go that route. If I had a garage the car would just sit and I'd buy something else for the time being and I'd putz away at it while attempting to learn, but thats not an option. Fucking fuckity fuck fuck. Cars are stupid.

hud 91gt 07-03-2014 10:03 AM

noooooo

boatcaptain 07-03-2014 10:05 AM

i would rebuild it. so u know the engine is in good condition when you hit the track again

Damn, I'm sorry :(

Hoping for a good outcome for you.

white rocket 07-03-2014 10:52 AM

At least you know it is in good hands. They are a pricey shop but Chris and Rudy know their shit. They worked on my E30 cab back in 2000 and were always fair and transparent with all of their work. I'm certainly curious as to the culprit causing the issue and what is needed for a rebuild. Definitely keep us posted.

Do they have space to store the car for you while you consider your options?

dared3vil0 07-03-2014 11:00 AM

I'm going to be honest, that E46 swap sounds like the thing dreams are made of...

hud 91gt 07-03-2014 02:03 PM

Yeah, when you come to sell a rebuilt engine in an ad always make you wonder. But a S54, wahhwooooweewah! Haha.

mb_ 07-03-2014 07:54 PM

FUUUUUUUCKKKKKK :(

Best of luck man. S54 swap would be sick :fullofwin:

boostfever 07-03-2014 08:32 PM

That sucks Westopher. Your car is minty, and 6K shift is not much for an straight-6, don't know how this can happen :(

dared3vil0 07-03-2014 08:56 PM

^ The moment you you move your car our of its parking space tomorrow, you could put a window in the block.

What i mean by that statement is an engine can go boom for no good reason, any time it pleases.

That blows Westopher. I'm curious how you would get bent valves at only 6000 RPMs.

At least you recognize and admit it. That's the beginning of improvement.

Anyone going to the BMW autocross on the 13th?

boatcaptain 07-11-2014 02:26 PM

Traum 07-11-2014 02:31 PM

^^ That's NA6. The NC has at least 120hp. :troll:

trollguy 07-22-2014 02:57 PM

sorry westopher but this hopefully can be "the" enthusiast trackday/autox thread on RS ;)

with that said.. anyone else signed up for the sept 8 TSSxFFD track day at The Ridge? Still a number of spots left. A lot of people originally indicated they'd go but havent paid even after it was announced that deposits were being accepted... I think people did that to add to their online credibility that they track their car..

and before anyone adds, here are the standard excuses for people who say they'll go then dont:

"cant get a day off" (date was announced a month ago)
"need to install XXX" (date was announced a month ago)
"i cant win" (true story... and huh?)

:concentrate:
