Sorry but Garrison was not only too slow, but he was too timid for such a big body. That along with his salary is why he was shipped away, and not because he wasn't given any chances by Torts.

trancehead 07-03-2014 11:08 PM

i think Garrison was just alright. but getting paid ~4.6M is just too much for that considering the nucks already have
Edler ~ 5m
Bieksa 4.6
Hamhuis 4.5

And Garrison i dont think differentiated himself from the pack too much
Just not the right fit at the moment for the team moving forward

Benning is probably also betting quite a bit on Tanev to step up. must really like his potential. i think he can find his offensive side as well

I am hoping that 6'7 russian D the nucks drafted this year has a chris pronger like demeanour. they need someone mean back there. Bieksa is tough as nails, but just wish he was bigger to be even more intimidating

New Maple Leafs center Petri Kontiola is a heck of an interview

Quote:

The Toronto Maple Leafs are “on the verge of signing “ Finnish star Petri Kontola to a 1-year contract, as soon as he is officially released from the KHL contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk.

He’s a 29-year-old playmaker who was a standout at both the IIHF world championships and the Sochi Olympics, where Finland won bronze.
Kontiola had 175 points in 258 regular-season games in the KHL.

But perhaps his greatest skill is the way he handles frustrating postgame interviews ... and his subsequent apologies.

If Kontiola’s name didn’t ring a bell, perhaps this clip will.

Quote:

Ah yes, the infamous “I don’t know” interview from Worlds …

To his credit, or due to his nation’s arm-twisting, Kontiola apologized in spectacular fashion with the reporter

^Kessel will have to take him under his wing and show him how to handle the media in Toronto like a pro.

Not really racist! 07-04-2014 01:18 AM

Kassian for 1.75m leaves 5m for Vey, Tanev, and probably Weber

Sign all three and maybe lose Markstrom's 1.2m so 6.2m.

Ronin 07-04-2014 02:27 AM

Great deal for Kassian at $1.75m. He got better as the season went on so $1.75m for 2 is a good deal to see if he grows beyond that. Still 23 and massive...at worst, we'll just have him hit things.

The problem is he doesnt hit things either.

Nice Canucks officially signed Weber as well, now only Tanev is left

Lord- could you imagine a universe where Edler and Bieksa switched bodies?

1.6 for vey seems like a lot? I don't know much about the guy but it doesn't look like he has much NHL experience. I expect Tanev to comand 3 over 3 or more.

Vey has 5 career points ... He won't get anywhere near $1.6M ... $0.6M seems far more likely

I'd expect somewhere between $2M and $3.5M for Tanev, depending on term.

He really hasn't established himself as more than a reliable #4/#5 and he is an RFA, albeit with arbitration rights.

fsy82 07-04-2014 10:38 AM

David Legwand to Ottawa for 2yrs 6million

6o4__boi 07-04-2014 10:40 AM

Vey I can see at 1.0 - 1.2 MAX on a 2-3 year deal. He had an AAV of 900k (770K + bonuses) last season.
1.6M is a retarded amount for someone who hasn't done anything at the NHL level...but then again, it wouldn't surprise me anymore.

highfive 07-04-2014 01:16 PM

Pierre McGuire said earlier today that he doesn't expect Tanev to command a lot.

He said last contract was a bridge contract, same this time.

For a defensive defenceman who's RFA as well, he expects a slight bump in salary increase from his previous one.

He's still expecting Canucks to kick the tires on Tyler Myers too.

Hondaracer 07-04-2014 01:36 PM

Pierre hasn't had a legit lead In the last year I've heard him talk

b0unce. [?] 07-04-2014 01:48 PM

Side note on Pierre, is he back with TSN now? I saw him on the draft show but last I heard he left TSN to do NBC or something like that?

radioman 07-04-2014 01:56 PM

He's just mad he couldn't land a GM job.

EvoFire 07-04-2014 02:00 PM

I'm very curious as to what they are going to do with Lack and Markstrom.

If they want to trade, then Lack seems like he would fetch a better return.
If they waive, it makes more sense to waive Markstrom and send him to the AHL.

Though that gives us a bunch of problems. Who's going to be interested in taking Lack, and we are going to get nearly nothing in return.
And if we waive Markstrom, I'm pretty sure some one will claim him, which makes the Luu trade even more ugly.

In the long run, we have a ton of goalies in the pipeline - Markstrom, Erikkson, Cannata, and that new guy we just drafted. Are the Canucks trying to make a living of developing then selling off goalies?

His assessment of Tanev's situation is a perfect example why
