would of preferred hiller so there was possibility of 50/50 split, but if lack gets roughly 30 games still it will be good. as for not getting iginla, im happy. insert some youth, get a top 5 pick next yaer, and all we need to do for that is to move 2 of sestito/higgins/burrows/hansen along with markstrom. we can jell after we get that future #1c

hypediss 07-02-2014 12:25 AM

Markstrom has yet to log a meaningful game and yet, it seems the top brass have given up on him already.

Such shame

miller suddenly makes us solid in net (in regular season) and we have like 1.5 solid lines to play with... wtf? 9th place finish here we come....

fcking srsly, this will be a painful 3 years... anyone know if the cap hit is 6mil as well? that hurts man, we could have bolstered our second line and add some offensive firepower :( sad day

I think if they didn't get Miller, they would have pushed harder for Iginla. Miller will provide a lot of the veteran leadership that Iginla would have.

God, teams in the west are getting stacked.

FS1992EG 07-02-2014 03:37 AM

We are delaying Lack's development. And we left Markstrom out to dry and Markstrom is Luongo's trade legacy so to speak.

We should've played Lack for 45 and Markstrom 38 games. Trade Markstrom at the 2015 draft for a 1st rounder or trade package for a younger forward.

The west is stacked! It's never looked stronger than now.

Even if we have Quick, we would get steam rolled by most of the western teams.

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2014 03:57 AM

You don't develop a goaltender by putting him out there for a huge number of games on a poor team. Nor do you make him split the workload with a backup goalie.

Well Vancouver will always be a goalie grave yard if Rollie is still with us.

How is that the goalie coach's fault?! By all accounts I've ever read he's invaluable and super respected! Nevermind the fact Vancouver has been known as a "goalie graveyard" for so long that Melanson was still playing in the NHL at that point in time!!! Which was up until 1994 in case you were wondering...

SkinnyPupp 07-02-2014 04:22 AM

Noob Canucks fans think Goalie Graveyard refers to Luongo and that's it. :lawl:

I never Luongo was apart of Vancouver's grave yard.

Luongo was the best thing that happened for the Canucks.

Puck luck, injuries, and just the way your team is playing at that time will determine how deep you go. Fuck. All those years of president trophies and division titles, we had kesler the selke nominee/winner and the Sedins scoring, we only went past the second round once.

It's anyone's game once you get into the playoffs.

In the west, it's really not.

There is no way a team like the Canucks are going to beat consecutively, hawks, ducks, kings, blues, sharks, stars

It's just not going to happen, period.

They'll be over developed by then... there's only 82 games :P

I would've liked to see Iginla in Vancouver.

With that said, he's one of the few vets in the league who deserves to win a cup before hanging up his skates. He has a much better chance of doing that with the Avs.

Mike Oxbig 07-02-2014 09:43 AM

This season was suppose to be development for our youth while acquiring skilled vets/exciting players for ppl to come see

Still surprises me that he signed with the Avs.
Unless he's looking at the long term, and planning to win one with them in 3 years, just before his contract ends.
They're a good team, but still too young to compete with the heavyweights of the west as of now.

dbaz 07-02-2014 09:50 AM

I wander if Connolly is gonna be available, i assume tbay would prefer drouin in the lineup over him and that would basically set their top 9. Wander what Higgins or Hansen with percent retained could get from them

6o4__boi 07-02-2014 09:54 AM

Canucks sign O'Reilly!

Lack had a .912 save % with 4 shutouts last year playing behind a team that spent most of its time in its own zone... with the work he's put in over the summer i'd say he's 1 year away from being a legit starter

1 year later we'd still have 35 year old miller getting paid 6mill a year to be our starter, so do you then trade our up and coming goalie for another 9th overall pick? :suspicious:

AzNightmare 07-02-2014 10:13 AM

The Miller signing doesn't really make that much sense, unless they are planning to ship him off as soon as Lack is ready, prior to the ending of Miller's contract.

Then it could make sense, if Benning is ruthless like that, and willing to burn bridges with his buddy, Miller.

Can't sign / acquire players that don't want to play in/for Vancouver lol

The Canadian markets are becoming increasingly less desirable to come to

I'm not sure how you can honestly say that, given the fans and media of Vancouver. Numerous young goalies have had good first seasons only to fizzle out and suck and become reclaimation projects because the workload was too much, playing behind a crappy team destroyed their confidence, etc etc. "Developing" young goalies doesn't mean tossing them into games to get peppered and lit up night after night.

And Lu got better after the Canucks brought in Rollie to settle his technical side down.

He would be a great deadline pickup for a contender and could bring back at least some middle round draft pick which would have cost the Canucks nothing in terms of assets. I wouldn't call Benning ruthless at all with that move. Ruthless is asking Garrison to waive his NTC after he took less $ to come home. I wasn't thrilled about Miller's deal and I'm still not, but it looks like Benning's covered his bases in terms of exit strategies and most important thing is that it will cost the team nothing to get out of this deal.
