Would love a guy like Sharp

6o4__boi 07-01-2014 02:15 PM

Would love Sharp, but the cost would be pretty high i'd imagine.

Ryan Johansen would be awesome...but that's pretty unlikely too.

Ch28 07-01-2014 02:45 PM

You'd need to sign Johansen to a ridiculous contract that would end up compensating Columbus like 4x 1st round draft picks. Not worth it

Tim Budong 07-01-2014 02:51 PM

thats right, bring all the local boys back..
pshhh

Lol. Sorry but is that what u will actually offer them for Johansen??

Tim Budong 07-01-2014 03:04 PM

Benning on 1040 just now

"Santorelli will be in our plans if we can't find a top 6"

Thats fucking shitty

Jmac 07-01-2014 03:59 PM

Santa priced himself out. He's coming off a significant injury and the team has a new management team and a new coaching staff. He needs to prove himself all over again as it's essentially a new team, so he should've been more flexible in negotiaions (wanted multi-year, multi-million dollar contract. A 1-year bridge deal would've likely seen him back with us).

OGCStrike 07-01-2014 04:37 PM

Loui eriksson pls

JesseBlue 07-01-2014 08:10 PM

There are a few more KHL players available like mueller or someone...

Mike Oxbig 07-01-2014 08:23 PM

The Canucks is a sad looking team right now... we don't have any trade dead line bait nor do we have any prospects that is NHL ready.

6o4__boi 07-01-2014 08:50 PM

except for the teams that'll probably get slaughtered this upcoming season (Preds, Oil, Flames, Jets) pretty much every western team is a contender with epic 1/2 centers and top 2 lines

STL - Stastny, Backes
CHI - Toews, Kane/Richards
AVS - MacKinnon, Duchene
DUCKS - Getzlaf, Kesler
DAL - Spezza, Seguin
KINGS - Kopitar, Carter/Richards,
COYOTES - Vermette, Ribeiro/Gagner (ok maybe not epic, but you can pretty much bet Tipett will get the best out of this lineup)
SHARKS - Thornton, Couture/Pavelski
WILD - Koivu, Granlund (not as good looking but the Wild as a whole looks to be a well-rounded team)

CANUCKS - Sedin, Bonino - :okay:

But our draft cupboards are looking stocked so we've got that going right. Lol just gotta turn that expectation to pretty much nil. I'm hoping that one or two of our prospects would surprise in training camp and put up some points over the season. That'll at least ease the burn a bit.

EDIT: i just realized that's pretty much the playoff seeds for next season lol

Tim Budong 07-01-2014 09:01 PM

How to describe Jets and flames

http://www.atarimania.com/8bit/boxes...r_spark_k7.jpg

however... as shitty as the Canucks were last season, I think they can still compete for that wild card.

its the sad sad truth

MG1 07-01-2014 09:18 PM

Seattle Seahawks..........all the way with sloppy seconds and no names. When a team gels and the timings right, anything can happen.

Stacked teams aren't a guarantee.

SkinnyPupp 07-01-2014 09:26 PM

Seahawks are a team that has a vision from the ownership all the way to the players, and they built their team around that. The Canucks are owned by a goofball organization, and until now were run by goofball management.

I wouldn't go hoping for a Seahawks like team happening any time soon. And even then, when that happens it's usually just a cinderella run.

MG1 07-01-2014 09:34 PM

^which is what this town needs, sadly. Get into round two and most will be pleased under the circumstances.

I've seen weirder things. Hope, shall we?

You are right about the ownership. In any sport, the winning teams have an organization that is solid from top down.

Calgary never tanked last season. Since the Flames/Canucks line brawl, they went something like 19-14-1 or something like that. Since then, it's true that the Flames lost Cammalleri, their highest scorer, but on the other hand you can't tell me that a tandem of Hiller/Ramo is worse than Ramo/Berra or Ramo/MacDonald. Not saying that Calgary is going to challenge for the cup or anything like that, but they are most definitely not tanking.

When was the last cinderella story in the NHL? Maybe the LA Kings in 2012. But that was a talented team which ended up peaking at the right time.

i wouldnt call 2012 kings a cinderella story

they just decided to actually play decent hockey after mailing it in to take the final playoff spot

rsx 07-01-2014 10:05 PM

why are people happy with playoff participation? it means nothing unless you win the cup. id rather just tank and load up on picks

b0unce. [?] 07-01-2014 10:15 PM

Florida beefed up quite a bit :o

Ribeiro got bought out

highfive 07-01-2014 10:56 PM

If you're able to get into the playoffs. Anything can happen. Look at rangers, were the favourites to be cup finalists? Did sj think they would lose the series up 3-0?

Puck luck, injuries, and just the way your team is playing at that time will determine how deep you go. Fuck. All those years of president trophies and division titles, we had kesler the selke nominee/winner and the Sedins scoring, we only went past the second round once.

It's anyone's game once you get into the playoffs.

How typical of them.

Only LA fans can genuinely say "saving it for the playoffs, or saving it for elimination games"

PiuYi 07-01-2014 11:54 PM

miller signing is shitfucked, this was a perfect season for Lack and Markstrom to develop since everyone knows its a throwaway season so there's no pressure on them... they can play with no expectations on the team

miller suddenly makes us solid in net (in regular season) and we have like 1.5 solid lines to play with... wtf? 9th place finish here we come....

fcking srsly, this will be a painful 3 years... anyone know if the cap hit is 6mil as well? that hurts man, we could have bolstered our second line and add some offensive firepower :( sad day
