Absolutely, but only if a subject advances towards an officer with a weapon in an aggressive manner, whether it is a firearm, bat, 2x4, chain, knife, etc.. the officer has every justification to shoot the subject.

You will always get these bleeding heart liberals always screaming its only a bat (or insert another weapon) but the officer has to protect himself from severe or fatal injury and prevent the aggressive subject with a weapon from getting past him and potentially doing harm or being a threat to the general public.
