Sooo I bought a set of 20" OEM wheels w/ 305/55/20 DuraTracs. Will see how they compared to the Falkens!

That is awesome to hear. I guess they learned from last yr when ppl started to leave their cars in the middle of the road lol

I checked out a few EVO cars last year and none of them had winters despite them having a ski rack on them.. Kind of shitty on BCAA's part

Simplex123 11-11-2017 12:24 PM

I lucked out at Richmond Costco when I went to pick my two tires up there Thursday night I told them I was gonna refund my installation and get my own shop to do it but he insisted on booking me in the next day and I got all 4 of my Blizzak WS80's installed 7AM the next morning.

Costco also does walkins if you don't want be book a time. I went during a weekday at 4:30am and was the third person in line. The tire centre opens at 6:00am but we were let in at 5:00 so that they could get us started

Love em so far. I tend to drive faster with them though which makes me break loose on corners more than usual, gonna have to be a little vigilant...

RE: Car2Go, that's interesting since even Toronto's cars don't get them.
Only Montreal's cars get them.

I sure hope Montreal gets them. Last year was a complete shit show, I think I remember a police car and buses sliding down backwards

I lucked out and one of the shops we deliver to is going to swap my tires for me on Wednesday for cheap.

Wonder if Costco's actually losing money with each additional tire set that they've sold with all the overtime they're paying

This is madness.

0430 in the morning for tires is absolutely insane.

I don't get it. They sell winter tires in the summer too. We've been talking about rebates and deals year round. Why are people desperately lining up for Costco now? Have we learned nothing about preparedness from last year? If they purchased the wheels and tires earlier they can have it installed at any shop. :yuno:

Simplex123 11-12-2017 03:19 PM

I think it's a combination of things. Not only are they backed up for installs, a lot of stock is back ordered at the manufacturer level. When I was in line the other day a lot of models are looking at a 4-5 weeks to arrive at the shop.
Not to mention their warehouse is jam packed with tires at maximum capacity. Richmond one at least.

TOS'd 11-12-2017 04:25 PM

Rebates this time around started around end of sept/ beginning of oct.

So much this! I ordered mine in July to beat the rush

Michelin keeps quoting roughly five weeks for certain tires. There was one specific type I overheard our SA get quoted over two months for

Dealing with this kind of gongshow isn't worth saving $50.

True, but I guess ymmv. I was definitely late to the party when I ordered a set 3rd week of October. Got them on a week ago, painless experience at Cantire.

They have them in Montreal because it's the law in Quebec to have winter tires during the winter months

+1

Despite last year being a rough winter and the high anticipation for this year, some suppliers may still be on the backseat behind Quebec and Ontario.

This was the case last year. Nobody knew how bad it would end up being and our suppliers simply wouldn't / couldn't redirect enough tires from the east over to our side of the country.

Liquid_o2 11-15-2017 10:52 AM

Weather forecasts are all predicting warm wet weather for the next 7 to 10 days.

I don't like rolling on winter tires when it is above 10 degrees, but I'm surprised how quiet the Xi3's are. My old Hakka's were much louder on the highway.

320icar 11-15-2017 11:05 AM

Just FYI, Richmond Costco has now shut down all online ordering and in store special ordering indefinitely, until all the members who have already entered this winter tire shitstorm are dealt with.

coneZONE 11-15-2017 02:35 PM

I just dropped by my old work at CT, and holy shit. The free space in the shop (pretty much half the shop) is entirely occupied by 8 foot tall stacks of new tires. I got lucky.
