Your post couldn't have come at a better time! I am just starting to look at replacement tires for my old man's car, and the General Altimax 365AW and Toyo Celsius II look quite promising!

There will always be a need for true winter tires for areas that get more snow than we do here. And if you're already running a summer tire set, why compromise and get all-weathers instead of winters?

Sure, but the chances of you wrecking in snow because of a tire that's not great for snow, is going to be much higher than you wrecking your car because a tire is not optimal for damp pavement.

One condition is much more adverse than the other.

Any good deals on Winter tires going on that you know of? Looking for a complete set of 4, something in the mid-range ~ $250 per. I'm looking for purely Winter or also open to something like a Cross Climate 2.

Because been an owner of EVO and Miata... lets just say the tire prices between the 2 cars are astronomical lolol, like a full set of 4 top end 15s is like... 1 mid range tire for the evo lolol

General's All Weather product for $250/ea with a $50 rebate on a set of 4 right now. I don't know how good this particular tire is but I've had good experiences with their winter and all-season products.

That's $50 less per tire than a Cross Climate or a Bridgestone Weatherpeak.

I just picked up this week four 225/55/18 Michelin Crossclimate2 tires from Costco in Port Coquitlam for our Subaru Crosstrek for $1,165 after the $60 instant Costco Michelin rebate.

Does everyone go back to the shop after driving for 40kms to have their bolt tightness checked like they recommend at Costco? I will probably head back to get checked but the Costco tire center is a madhouse this time of year.

I went back to Costco the day after. Just pull up by the shop and ask them to torque your wheels. Should be done in less than 10 mins

I used to go back to Kal Tire to get my wheels re-torqued. But realistically, DIY-ing this is just a torque wrench and a socket away, and I'm sure Harbour Freight still have their $15 - $20 torque wrenches for sale.

I think it depends on your time / cost availability. Costco wants you to come back so you can stop by for some more shopping but it hey, free is free.

If you are changing your wheels every season, it's worthwhile to pick up a torque wrench set from say Canadian Tire. They will often have their Mastercraft or DeWalt tire change torque wrench set go on sale seasonally and the cost itself will pay off after a few uses.

Toronto first world problem, but the weather is cooling to 7 degrees. I may be swapping out to winter wheels in a week or two.

They claim on the paperwork/policy that you should go back for wheel torque and wheel rotation or they will void the warranty. But realistically who has time to make an appointment for tire rotation every 6k km?

Rotation/balance every 8000mi or 12,000km. So no not every 6k. I assume the average Costco shopper goes at least once every 6 months lol, not that hard to schedule an appt while you shop.

And no, not getting your wheels retorqued after service does NOT void your general tire warranty. It may absolve the shop of some liability if there is a wheel-off situation and you never came back for the industry standard 25 mile torque check.
