Long shot but where's the best place to get some 235/45R18 snow tires, wheels I bought of FB doesn't fit the car due to the lugs being m14. Thinking if it's worth the hassle to dismount on the wheels that doesn't fit and mount on OEM or just buy a new set of tires to mount on OEM. Don't need $300 a tire either, I'm happy with generals or nokians sailunnnnns? :lawl::pokerface:

FB Marketplace, Craigslist... Nokians are one of the most expensive btw. You listed General (mid-range) Nokian (expensive) Sailun (cheap) lol.

Also try Quattro Tires, PMC Tire, Blackcircles online.

I told her I've never had to pay for an alignment as part of a new tire installation, and it gave me the impression they just took advantage of her.

Have them cover the cost of the alignment since they can't really undo their work.

They did additional work without her authorization, it doesn't matter if her alignment was out by an inch or a mile, it's not up to them to decide if that car is gonna get an alignment not. It's not their car or money.

Currently on Michelin AS3+ - thinking if this is the year to grab a set of winters and change to a dedicated summer set next year or go with the RS favorite, CrossClimate 2's and run them year round? This will be on a C300 4Matic.

lowside67 11-08-2022 06:36 AM

We have one vehicle which we run dedicated winters and summers on. Our second vehicle has really expensive tires, we run a single set of all seasons year round and park it when it actually snows.

Best of both worlds.

That's depending on how you drive your car IMO - do you drive it aggressively in the summer, and do you need it to be 100% available in the winter and can't park it on really bad days? Do you go into the Interior for skiing etc? If so then go with a separate summer/winter set.

If you don't then the CC2 should be ok for you.

Wow, that's such a dick bag move. They need to inform the customer first to get consent to the work, and yes, there needs to be a before/after alignment. I suspect they took advantage of her. I would raise this to a manager at the shop.

I asked her to get me the alignment report yesterday and this is what she gave me today - am I reading this right that they made the alignment worse and charged her for it?!

Ooooooooooof.

Badhobz 11-08-2022 01:47 PM

Wtf. Stupid Kal tire. How can they make it worse!?!?

320icar 11-08-2022 02:05 PM

Found time to swap over this weekend. Seems it was just in time. Last week overnight temps were still like 10°, last night was 1°

I'm not an expert but those numbers are so close I'd guess that's the amount of variation you'd get just taking the sensor things off the tires and putting them on again. The biggest change is 0.05*. So I'm guessing they didn't do anything except measure the alignment twice.

I'm just going off by my Google-Fu but the numbers should fall within the spec-range post-alignment which is not what the report is showing. It does seem like they just ran a report and didn't do any actual aligning...

Speaking of the sensors - one of her tire sensors failed and now she needs to figure out if they broke it or died from age.

They are trying to charge her for really doing nothing. Tell them to fuck off.

radeonboy 11-08-2022 04:25 PM

^she already paid since she was told the alignment was required to validate her new tire warranty.

She is fine with paying for the alignment if it was indeed necessary, but this report shows they've done practically nothing, so the only deliverable for their supposed alignment job was this piece of paper and skipping the actual alignment.

That's a shit thing to do and I'm going to help her pursue this.

Which Kal Tire is this?

mb_ 11-08-2022 09:11 PM

It still takes time to set up the car on the alignment machine. With alignments on most cars nowadays, there's a range where it's in spec as per the manufacturer. A little bit of toe in is usually done for stability at high speeds.

BUT

Regardless, I'd still escalate it until she gets her money back for performing the alignment without her authorization. The car could have an alignment so bad that it's visually obvious that it's out of alignment but if the customer still doesn't approve it especially without their knowledge, they should be on the hook for that.

AzNightmare 11-08-2022 09:46 PM

Considering the specs are so similar from what it originally was, it's kind of hard to justify that an alignment was required in the first place. Sounds more like a cash grab policy where an alignment is automatically required in order to "validate the warranty".

trollface 11-09-2022 06:39 AM

There is really no way of telling if the car was originally out of spec unless you put it on the rack. Guess they charge you anyways even if it's good.

supafamous 11-09-2022 07:48 AM

FWIW, when I got tires for my father in law at Kal Tire on Kingsway they didn't require an alignment for the warranty. That was 4 years ago or so.

Eff-1 11-09-2022 08:29 AM

call me old school but if the car rolls straight without hands on the wheel, alignment is fine lol.

Also did not need alignment when I got my set some years ago. Kal Tire Richmond.

radeonboy 11-09-2022 09:31 AM

I deal with Kal Tire Richmond and they've always been great. They profusely apologized when they dropped and scuffed my wheels one time, showed me the damage in person, and promptly arranged to refinish the wheel and took care of the bill, then apologized again when I went to pick up the wheel.

It's unfortunate Kal Tire's service quality can vary this much between locations. Looks like others experienced something similar to my coworker at another location:

Anyway I'll continue to pursue this privately. Thanks for all the input here!

geeknerd 11-09-2022 05:15 PM

Bought a used set but has a dent that causes vibration at high speed.
I want to replace the one steel rim but hard to find the exact spec
16in 5x100 42mm offset
Is there a problem if I use 40mm offset with other variables the same?

tegra7 11-09-2022 05:35 PM

Is it worth buying new tires over the border?

68style 11-09-2022 06:24 PM

^ sort of if you don’t mind off brands…. They’re way cheaper than up here
