wow I watched that full 45min Sheriff of Nottingham video and really enjoyed it. Wheres the best place and price to get it? I so have to pick it up

ForbiddenX 05-20-2015 09:07 PM

401 Games Online Store and Meeplemart Incorporated both have very competitive prices which are almost the same as the USD prices (without conversion 1:1). I'm not too sure how much shipping costs though. Might be even cheaper than buying from a store in Vancouver if you get a good number of games :P to make it worth the shipping.

Great Deals on Great Board Games and More | Board Game Warehouse is also very good in terms of pricing although in USD. Me and my coworkers would order over $100 to get their free shipping and they don't tax (this was when I was still in SFO though).

mustve saw ur group, friends and i were on the table beside you guys playing last night on earth, then resistance

super fun game, pretty much walking dead in a board game
team vs zombie controller
search for items, move character on board fight zombies and surivive for x amount of rounds. players get wounded then turn to zombies and change teams. will play again

ForbiddenX 05-22-2015 06:08 AM

If you like zombies, you should definitely check out Dead of Winter. One of my favorite board games to play. It's a coop game but also has a betrayer element. Not sure if it's as scarce to find in Vancouver though.

Yea it took me a while before being able to find a copy at retail price. There was a shop in TO that got 3 copies a few days after I emailed them. Good thing the wife was able to pick it up for me since I wasn't in the city yet lol. Haven't been able to find a copy since.

Mayfair Games FFP-103 Settlers of Catan Cities and Knights Expansion and 5-6 Player Extension

http://www.amazon.ca/Mayfair-FFP-103...SIN=B005GT2PHQ

$58 is a really good deal for both the game and player extension.

Anyone play Netrunner? My coworkers recently got into it and I'm not too sure if I should make the dive as well. Looks like a pretty interesting game and how its asymmetrical. There's also tournaments and stuff for it?

FN-2199 08-12-2015 01:38 AM

Exploding Kittens came in last week! Definitely fun for up to 2-5 people (if you have two decks, up to 9); it can get old pretty quickly, as games last about <15 min.

EndLeSS8 08-12-2015 08:34 AM

I bought Exploding Kittens, but I haven't played it since the trial run at Storm Crow.

Some of the card groups are seriously OP

lady_mapetite 08-12-2015 12:45 PM

friends and i have been playing exploding kittens too and we have 2 decks. once you get the hang of it, the game can last more than 15 mins. our longest game probably lasted for 45 minutes because of how people planned their moves lol

on the other hand, disturbed friends was... interesting. and i like it

importantLS 08-12-2015 01:33 PM

still waiting on my copy :(

Hondaracer 08-12-2015 02:17 PM

are there any good 2 player roll playing type like settlers etc.? or most of them are 3+?

i would recommend the following for 2 players

Lords of Waterdeep - looks complicating and the theme is dungeons and dragons (that might turn some people off), but it's a really easy game to play for people not that deep into the hobby like settlers level

Splendor - A real quiet game of drafting jewels, really simple works well with 2 players and is easy to learn

The above two are really great with two players or more racing to win with victory points

there are other games you can play with two players like CO-OP, but it depends on your gaming preferences

Pandemic is one of the top co-op games to play

most of the games I suggested are what I can think of at the moment.

You can probably Youtube them and see if it does interest you or just go to a friendly local gamestore and I am sure the owners will show you one of their open games and that way you can try it before you buy it.

ForbiddenX 08-13-2015 03:29 PM

Castle's of Burgundy is supposed to be a really good 2 player game as well. I got it for my wife and I but we haven't had a chance to play it yet. There's also Star Realms which is a fun 2 player deck building game.

edit: Just played a game of Exploding Kittens at the office with 9 people and that was hilarious and fun.

Bought the NSFW version for a secret santa gift. Changed the rules a bit to make it a drinking game for Unlimited players! Honestly. I think we improved the game lol

Exploding Kittens Melonboy House rules
General rules are the same aside from the ones tweaked below
Everyone starts with 0 cards, 1 card is drawn per turn
Exploding kitten cards = 1/2 shots if drawn, Last Kitten drawn = 1 full shot
Defuse card
- Used as is, defuse the kitten card (kitten is shuffled back in deck)
- Used as a attack card, Make someone drink 1/2 shot
- At the end of the game. If you have a defuse card in your hand. You must drink with the loser (forces ppl to play the card instead of hording)
- Can't use the defuse card for someone else on the last turn (only can be used if you drew the last kitten)

Try the game with these extra rules! It is definitely a party pleaser. It'll show you who your true friends are too. (That moment you pick up a kitten but your buddy defuses it for you!:tears: "Fam" )

Pro tip: Use old pokemon card sleeves for your deck. Drunk ppl will spill and mangle your cards

murd0c 01-08-2016 09:42 PM

Just bought the NWS exploding kittens off Amazon, not bad for $25 and free shipping. I don't know much about the game but from what I have heard its tons of fun.

Hey guys,

What are the go to board game shops in the lower mainland? And do they hold any events or meetups to play boardgames weekly?

There were a few here in Toronto and was just wondering if there were any in Vancouver as well. Never was this into boardgames before so never got a chance to see what Vancouver has

Also anyone play Netrunner? Looking at getting into it

It's not a board game store, but Storm Crow Tavern on Commercial Drive is a pub that has board games for you to play while enjoying brews with your friends.
