Anyone ever have to sell their dream car?

How did you take it? How long till you got over it?

Long story short, I got an offer for my G8. It'll pay off the loan and leave some cash left over for a straight deposit into my bank account. I've spent the last three days asking myself if I can go through with it.

I have to decide by Wednesday and it's consuming me a little bit, lol.

Basically it comes down to a debt free life (minus rent) or hanging on to a car I like.

What would you guys do?

whatever you deposit in the bank, save that as seed money to buy it back.

It really depends on how that degree of debt affects you.

If you can afford it, keep paying. If it's too much of a burden, sell it.

I sold my S2000 3 years ago... I currently own a TL-S, and a CBR600rr and still to this day regret selling my dream car.

The debt can't be that much... I say keep it!

Letting go of the Supra sucked. I was depressed about cars for years after and ended up just leasing a new car for 3 years because I was soooooo depressed at the rise and fall of that car. Literally I fell OUT of love with cars entirely and that depression actually helped me get into writing.

Discovering how much I can fall in love with my 5.0 E36 has been amazing so far, romancing a car again is so fulfilling.

The debt isn't too bad but I just worry more about long term uncertainty. Currently work as a contractor and my current contract is up this week and I'll be out of work for six weeks before going back to a fresh project.

Also I know a fair number of people (including my dad) who lost their jobs this year just like that. Guess it leaves me feeling a bit paranoid.

I'm guessing a G8 isn't your dream car?

Assuming not i'd sell it, DD the Buick and start saving towards your real (attainable) dream car.

Your car is unique and would require a niche buyer to pay a reasonable amount. You should sell it for now and when the time comes you could get a G8 GXP in the future!

imo, that's not a lot of debt to deal with, and if it means giving up your dream car to clear it, i wouldn't

last year I had to sell a couple of vehicles that I really did love. I had to do it to put my missus thru school and we got mouths to feed. Not a day goes by I dont miss those vehicles but theyre cars. I sold mine for a good cause and hopefully one day I'll be able to replace one of them. One was sentimental cus it was given to me by a friend who shortly after died. I miss it cus I miss him. the other was more of a dream car and a fairly rare one the buyer flew down from northern alberta to drive it away from me. I balled seein it drive away. I still get misty eyed over these two vehicles.
Confessions of a car guy....

Yeah, I know I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable in that position.

Personally I say it's far too new to hold onto. I mean really, it's an 09 Pontiac. Regardless of how rare it was, it's still not that hard to find another one in comparable condition. Chevy is now building the SS which is a revised version of your car.

At the end of the day it's just a car. U'll get over it some day and find another dream car.

Some of us on this forum don't see it as just a car, they see it as their child or baby.

depends on your debt level and rarity of the car
some cars will never come by again, at least not in the milage/condition you currently have it babied.

Thanks to all who chimed in so far and sharing your unique points of view. I guess I have to remember that I'm not giving up a child nor pet for adoption.

This car will never look at me and say 'Thanks' or 'I love you' or 'Why?'

Considering the car's been on sale since December, I've only had 2 people serious for it but this latest offer is dead serious.

The G8 is / was my dream car. Always lusted after an Aussie brute. Never found a V8 model at the time. In three years, I've driven all my friends' V8 model (including the GXP, holy shit what a monster).

But that's a good point, when a dream is attained, it is reality and no longer a dream. Time to pursue the next dream?

Today was a good day to drink

There is nothing more liberating than being debt free with some money in the bank. You have two cars for yourself, and a negative bank balance. The answer is pretty clear.
Sincerely,
