i thought the idea with upgrading to windows 10 was wait awhile give a few months or so to get all the bug's iron'd out...i never bought Any windows on Day 1 of release...or do graphic card manufacturers really release windows 10 compatible Drivers now a days?...From a Gamer prospective i think it would be risky to upgrade and Run all ur Games if theres a risk of problems.

there will always be bugs with any system.. just depends if the programs you use trigger any issues or not...

I believe Windows 10 is based on the same platform as Windows 8. Drivers and software compatibility issues will be minimal.

However, I usually wait a few weeks after release of an operating system before installing. I never liked to be on the bleeding edge of software adoption. As always, do a complete image backup of your OS drive just in-case you need to do a restore.

Microsoft did not specify an expiry date. I assume what is going to happen is that when Windows 10 is available for release, Microsoft will send you an e-mail to claim your free Windows 10. It is up to you to claim and install it yourself. After claiming and with OS key in-hand, I'm pretty sure you can take your time to install Windows 10.

There was a loop-hole to get a free Media Center upgrade when Windows 8 was released. I still have the upgrade key but have yet installed it.

The upgrade will be on july 29th I believe. You will be able to upgrade to W10 for up to 1 year after initial release.

Would you guys recommend updating with an "in-place" install or do a fresh install?

Im not super computer savy, so would a fresh install be the same as a reformat(starting from scratch)?

or does it just reinstall everything and keep all movies, pictures, and videos and such?

Gh0stRider 06-10-2015 11:42 AM

reserved my copy and ya july 29th.

Ulic Qel-Droma 06-10-2015 12:48 PM

i reserved my copies (multiple computers)

but... ill prob wait a month and see how others like it first.

i'll be upgrading from 7.

that depends where you have your personal files. Generally people keep them in a separate partition/drive and complete format the OS drive before a fresh install, sobviously if you kept your files on that drive to be formated and get a fresh install then you'll lose those files.

I'm on Win 10 now....its a Win so far!!
The new browser, Edge, is quick and nice and clean.
It has a start button!!
They have taken all the GOOD things about windows from the last 20 years and threw into this one, good job ...... so far

SkinnyPupp 07-29-2015 07:50 AM

Kind of annoying that Cortana is available in China but not Hong Kong FailFish

Tegra_Devil 07-29-2015 09:08 AM

wow coming from windows 7. Win 10 is soo quick, even start up seemed way faster than before.

...or its all in my head

SkinnyPupp 07-29-2015 10:13 AM

Nope, Win 8 was already MUCH faster than 7, and 10 should be faster yet.

The more 'modern' your system is, the more improved the performance will be

People who downgraded to 7 from 8 are pretty much morons.
