Just upgraded to Windows 10.

I've noticed Skype looks blurry/ghetto. Most programs are okay otherwise. Any hints/tips to overcome this? *Edit* Fixed! Had to change display compatibility.

it's to do with the 150% text size increase in settings. but if u go to 100% everything else is ultra small. lol

are u using a 1080 or 1200p screen? or something smaller or bigger...

bcrdukes 08-20-2015 12:55 AM

It was actually this:

I tried that, but it ruins everything else, making it too small and not as sharp as before. THANKFULLY, I found a fix. I navigated to the Skype.exe, right click, properties. Under the Compatibility tab, I selected to disable scaling on high DPI displays. Perfectly fixed my problem!

So is this a must-upgrade?

I'm running 64 bit 7 right now, runs like a dream and it's still on the initial install on my crucial M4 SSD from approx 3 years ago

Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help

Quote:

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.
In short, if you don’t take advantage of the free upgrade during this offer, you won’t be available to install (or reinstall) Windows 10 on the same computer in the future.

Also, if you opt for the free upgrade, you have 1 year from July 29, 2015 to install Windows 10 at your leisure.

You should see what it looks like on my XPS13 with it's 3200p screen lol. So tiny during the OS clean install.

I am still struggling to adapt to this new start menu (coming from Windows 7). I've removed the "life at a glance" and "play and explore" sections, but things just aren't where they have been! If I still can't get used to it in a few weeks time I guess it's time to switch to classic shell and give that a run.

That being said, it did make my laptop run quite a bit smoother, quieter and smoother. The fan runs less for sure!

Still have yet to risk upgrading my desktop though.

I've upgrade a 4 year old sandy bridge i5 desktop a few weeks ago that was running windows 7 and it runs really nice (thought it would be slow for an old cpu), but I had lots of problem getting it to install. Did all the update and the MS tool said it was not up to date but all upgrades were done. After 1/2 a day on and off playing with it I chatted with ms's online help and he just added something in the registery and I was ready to update. Everything went fine until after it finished and rebooted I lost all net access (wired and wireless). After another few hrs I fixed that and been using it since. I'm not a windows person, as my Primary computer is a 4 year old MacBook Pro. But seeing how smooth it runs on such old hardware, I'm actually impressed with the new OS. I would recommend everyone who runs windows 8 to upgrade as 8 is very confusing to me.

If you want your Windows 7 Startmenu Install Classic Shell.

Whoa, that's pretty awesome classic start menu. I'm already used to Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10 menus, so I'm OK.

XplicitLuder 08-29-2015 10:53 PM

went from the win 8 to the 10. And it honestly made my computer turn on faster, so definitely a plus for me! still havent tinkered much with the programs or the new desktop layout so not of much help there

One week update: Overall system performance is better. Boot up and shut down speeds have improved. No weird or bizarre system hold ups in the middle of the day. Works and plays well with Windows Phone 8.1, Android, and Blackberry (have not tried Apple.)

Verdict: Satisfied. :accepted:

I'm having issues with my laptop after upgrading to Windows 10. It won't connect to the internet. I trouble shoot the wifi and it says that the connection is broken, but the wifi seems to be working fine with other devices. Any solutions?

Could be a driver issue..
Check with laptop manufacturer website to see if they have updates!

What's the cheapest way to get a legit copy of windows? (7,8 or 10)
I've looked at g2a and they run about $50 but I'm not sure if I trust that.

edit: I don't have any student connections so that option is out as well. The copy will be used to bootcamp my macpro for travelling.

RRxtar 09-05-2015 08:55 AM

i seem to be having an issue where my PC must be restarting itself (automatic update?) when Im not around, and when it starts up it gets stuck on a grey screen with a very small dialog box that sometimes says something like loginUI failure. click ok and its frozen on the grey screen. it takes a couple hard reboots of the power button to get it to fire up properly to the log in screen after.

PC is 1 year old, off the shelf, originally with 8.1. definitely only started after 10 upgrade

it also wiped my sage50 business data from my onedrive. thankfully i had a recent back up

I was using Windows 8.1 happily and Windows forced me to upgrade windows 10.
Basically this pop up came up and I had to either update now or choose a date for the PC to auto update. (and I wouldn't be able to change the date once I set it)

So I just decided to upgrade and so far... I kind of miss the metro.
I'm hitting the windows key a lot and expecting all my shortcuts to be there.
Not sure why everyone hated it. I used it like a place where I could junk all my shortcuts so that my desktop could be clean.

The new start thing is way too small to be jamming icons and shortcuts in there.

Windows Groove is looking more like iTunes now.
Anyone know how to drag and drop songs into a playlist?
Seems like everything's bounded by artist/album list.

!MiKrofT 11-28-2015 11:27 AM

You know you can switch back to the full screen start menu by a simple toggle.

How to enable full-screen Start menu in Windows 10 desktop mode | Windows Central

Additionally you can just drag and resize the start menu to whatever size you want.

winson604 11-28-2015 03:29 PM

Finally did the update and aside from some of the little changes in terms of looks of icons, volume bar etc etc which I dig the biggest thing I've noticed is the increased speed when I'm extracting torrents I downloaded. For an avg 720p tv show it used to take like 10 seconds but now it extracts in like 2. Haven't had time to dig into all the new features but so far so good.

MuranoGO-15 12-11-2015 05:33 PM

I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, because Microsoft and the system kept bugging me to death about it, so I finally did it, although being 1000% satisfied with Windows 7! Now just the other day my Start Menu doesn't work anymore :(

I click on it and nothing happens!

tiger_handheld 12-11-2015 06:33 PM

extracrunchie 12-12-2015 02:22 PM

^ the DVD maker and USB method requires a authentication key while the straight update from 7 to 10 does not.
