How is Windows 10 on older systems? My PC is pretty much from 2010. :okay:

The more 'modern' your system is, the more improved the performance will be

People who downgraded to 7 from 8 are pretty much morons.

on my MSI Gt780dxr laptop it is night and day faster than 7

Probably about the same as 8 was compared to 7 - quite a significant performance boost (and battery if on laptop) but not as significant.

I've read that it is more optimized than 8 for lower performance specs, so maybe it'll be even better, not sure... I'll be installing it on my laptop later, and that's from 2008 or so.

+1 I had windows 8 on a pre-2010 PC with an AMD Phenom (I think its like a 2008 CPU?) with HD5450 basic graphics card to watch video as an HTPC and it ran well with little/no speed issues.

Damn, can't seem to trip the update manually.

TOS'd 07-29-2015 12:09 PM

I just ended up going here and made myself a WIN10 USB. Downloaded super fast, my WIN7 desktop hasnt prompted the "get upgrade here" thing.

but just to clarify, either way i have to do a full upgrade on top of my win 8.1, THEN i can do a clean install afterwards and no need to activate win 10?

SpartanAir 07-29-2015 05:10 PM

I have this scheduled to install...but is it a clean install? Will it wipe everything clean and start over, or is it more like an existing upgrade?

I haven't backed up my stuff in a while, was going to do that anyways but I don't want to lose anything...

Lomac 07-29-2015 05:23 PM

It's just like an existing upgrade. It keeps your personal files and programs intact, though some people have stated they may need to reinstall the odd driver or two.

Canadian Rider 07-29-2015 05:57 PM

I still can't get it from windows update.. no matter how much I try. Anyone have success using the USB tool?

That's what it sounds like. Upgrade 8.1. Then you can do a clean install. There is a way to find you 'new' license key in windows 10 before you do. Just google it. But from the sounds of things you don't need it as windows 10 will be linked to your microsoft account.

No Windows 10 driver for my on-board videocard. :okay:

TOPEC 07-29-2015 08:01 PM

^ that brings another question, i have a win 7 32bit key, can i use that to upgrade as well?! would that mean i get the 32bit version only?

There's really no need to

bobola 07-29-2015 11:35 PM

Upgraded and then went to go back to Window 7.

Windows 10 drivers are not out for my mobo and sound card. :okay:

Mr.Money 07-30-2015 12:57 AM

are you sure????....the automatic updates should detect it and start downloading them, then a pop-up screen on the side says "Please restart your computer for updates to take a effect"

overall, coming from windows 7 to windows 10 i'm pretty happy,i heard it Crashing playing GTA 5 but i don't really do any intensive gaming on PC and play light games like lol,or CS 1.6...Starcraft 2..

seems to be quicker and the windows 10 it self only uses 3gb of ram for system

StylinRed 07-30-2015 01:03 AM

Awesome I was hoping there would be a way to upgrade without waiting for windows to do it

kkthind 07-30-2015 02:25 AM

Tried upgrading from 8.1 and I ended up getting this

:okay:

^ make sure u go into windows update and make sure every single thing is up to date, then go into control panel>region>admin>language for non unicode programs and make sure its english(US)

mine was giving me the same error until i changed it. so far im able to get further than where i originally had before that "something happened" popped up

see.lai 07-30-2015 08:22 AM

just updated to windows 10 pro. feels the same as 8.1 in terms of speed.

however, they removed kaspersky from my computer. tried reinstalling but it's not even compatible :fuuuuu:
