I don’t like my wife’s Canadian built RX for build quality but that’s only because I’m comparing it to my other Japanese built Lexusususus. Compared to a fucking bmw or any other German trash it’s still like miles better.
It’s been perfectly fine since 2018. No warranty work. No issues. She treats it like garbage and that’s okay. I just change the oil every 7k and she keeps running. That shitbox has 130,000kms on it now. Not sure how she has the most mileage out of the entire fleet but yeah. Indestructible.
Whatever stupid cars you guys are buying for your wives just get them the most reliable and safe one. That’s it. They don’t give a fuck about your weird brand loyalties. Just something in budget and safe. The rest is utterly moot as these bitches will destroy the cars. You think they’ll let the car warm up for even a second ?!? Hell no. She just jams on the gas like it owes her money.
She flies off curbs and hits potholes for fun. Oh don’t drive 10 ft and turn off the engine before it warms up ?!? Lawl. Turn on, immediate gas. Drives to end of driveway. Turn off. Cuz ooops forgot some shit.
How about driving with the fuel light on until the meter shows 5km left. Yeah told her a million times that’ll destroy the fuel pump. Does she give a shit ? Hell nah.
You wonder why your shit has broken struts ? Your bitch went off curbs too !!! Dynamics my ass. These girls are hopeless.

My dads rx400h from 2008 is past 200,000km and on its original hybrid battery. But when and if that battery goes, it’ll be 11k from the dealer.
Or you get some brown guy to replace individual cells or get a refreshed hybrid battery for half the price.

The RX V6 drives terribly, and it's comparatively terrible in gas. It'll cost me more in gas than to keep the X5 running, and other than the 12v AGM battery I'm actually zero dollar out of pocket for the X5.
Toyota's PHEV has issues with draining the battery as well and their software is not great, you are just as likely to brick the car from the way I drive. From the sounds of things BMW has the whole remote connection through phone thing down pat the most out of the traditional makers.
The family car will only be PHEV or EV from now one, there's no more gas family car for us.

Mazda phev? Ppl were saying you need to go back to the dealer to change brake pads on ioniq 5 cuz you need to do something with the software.
Also I dunno how jank the battery replacements are, I've been seeing a few HK tik toks where people went to China to replace their EV batteries and shit is jank as fuck, exposed, rubbing wires, batteries connected by metal strips instead of flexible wires, random new diy battery modules put in with nothing securing it to the main housing, no cooling between packs, no space for battery expansion, temperature sensors not plugged back into the battery cells and just dangling loose in the pack so you don't actually get a temp reading or it doesn't change, some bricked cars due to shorting.

We went to checkout Polestar and Lucid today.
Didn't get to drive the Polestar as they were busy. They have around 40 cars left that they want to blow out, then they won't be bringing in any new cars for a bit as they figure out the tariff situation. The current stock of PS3 are made in China, and Polestar is trying to figure out if they want to keep importing from China or bring them in from South Carolina.
Test drove the Lucid Gravity, well my wife did anyways. She had no complaints about the car which is good? She said it feels different, but in the same way that when she drives an Audi it's different. More so that it's a different brand and they have different ways of doing things. You hop between a X1, X3, X5, given the slight UI differences and size and physics, you can feel the family resemblance.
So back to the Gravity. They have something like 10 Tourings coming in Jan. We can hold them if we want. We decided not to as we weren't ready to commit.
Wife's review - steering was fine, the squircle was weird. Throttle and power was good, brake pedal has very little travel. Seats were good, she liked the stretched back windshield when driving. The screens were ok.
I didn't drive it, but I sat in the passenger seat. Suspension was firm but comfortable. Steering is very quick for such a long car. Back seat was very spacious if a bit too hard (the cushion). There's some jerkiness leaving the stop light due to the brake hold. I'd lean into turning that off. Standard regen is very strong and we turned it off altogether. Quote:

We aren't ready to buy as I need the confirmation from ICBC that they are writing the car off. I don't need to end up bag holding 200k worth of SUVs. Quote:

Not quite enough for us. We need about 50km for it to be useful.

Omg. So I talked to that lucid guy for a while and he said he can count the amount of lucid owners in Richmond. Literally only 3 guys in Richmond bought it.
So either the ah bak retired lawyer. Ah bak retired dentist. Or the ah bak ah bak.
I’m figuring it’s the ah bak ah bak who crashed.

very interesting: was entertaining the 45e and coding it for EU range
what's the gravity touring finance/lease like?
i'm assuming not much deals because so new, it'd be hard to recommend due to its range for the price
did second cross-border trip on 19" air touring my25 and with cruise control but cooler temps was 3.8mi/kwh and burned around 30%, last time with rain and no cruise control it was 0.5mi/kwh lower and had to budget 40%
the EPA 4.4mi/kwh was tested around 80kph in milder temps, so unrealistic speeds unless in the back roads with shit charging infra

I don't get how newer cars can crash like that, is it because you floored it so it bypasses the collision auto brake? Cuz usually they will beep at you even if the car in front slows down and you don't brake fast enough

I asked about residuals but they wouldn't give it to me. There is one out of the 10 Tourings that I like, but still they said they can't give me numbers until they land the car. They'll let me know when the car arrives.
So how much range are you actually getting on your pure vs the rated amount? Would be interesting to know how they fair in Vancouver driving.
Our 45e was coded for Euro range. There was a study out that showed BMW PHEV had higher than average battery wear. Euro range is 70km, I think we were getting 50-55km realistically, however we live on a hill so the draw is higher than average just coming and going from home. If the climate control uses the heater or the AC the range would show it dropping about 10-12%. So for example I have 50km range showing, if I turn on the AC it'll drop to like 43-45km. Quote:

on wear and cycle: i think that's a common limitation with existing phev, but yes doubly so on the x5
for a bmw or lexus etc i would automatically assume climate is always on; why get a luxury vehicle to ever not run heat or ac
touring has 92kw pack; charge it weekly to 80% but might leave it plugged in now that we're seeing 5c degrees or less
range based off what i remember from trip screen is about 500k on mostly smooth setting with high regen
you get used to the aggressive regen but sometimes i still find stepping through the mechanical brake on throttle during parking can be annoying
buttons on steering wheel look nice but are trash to use, base sound system is meh, wish got powered frunk so would actually use it but trunk is still plenty
very good seats. ride is stellar. even the little things like almost silent wipers and how the rain beads off the wing mirrors is kinda nice until you remember the app doesn't allow scheduled cabin pre-heat (from a company that only builds EV, ugh)

Not even so much as a warning light. So they won't do anything about the terrible fuel economy. I bet the fkers masked out the codes so the extended warranty wouldn't kick in til after expiry.

That's kind of shitty, part of the allure of an EV is being able to precondition the cabin.
We didn't really use the steering controls, but I'll be honest I'm not a huge fan of the two touchpad things. Wife also mentioned how far the signal stalk is from the steering wheel. Quote:

Mine might have an OT on Friday night shift car. It shouldn't be that bad. My neighbour is on their 4th X5 and they don't have that many problems.
The reasoning is just she didn't get hurt on a pretty big impact and she feels safe in it.
