Being forced to buy an EV from a dealership seems a lot harder in the US than it is in Canada (from my experience at least). US Dealerships in general like to do whatever they can to mark up and otherwise act like shitheads when it comes to new and popular cars thus making people not want to deal with them. This is one of the reasons why companies like Tesla have gotten so popular. The process to buy a Tesla is so easy, it's just a breath of fresh air in comparison to the toxic environment that a dealership in the US can be.

It also comes down to your needs in terms of space as the Model S is much more spacious than a 3. I actually prefer the interior of the S over the 3, maybe the materials quality on the 3 is better, but it just feels so strange and sparse to me.
As for a used X, you really can't compare it to a 3.. the space/seating is the obvious one, but even just the small features of the X like automatic doors, falcon wings, etc make it a totally different experience in my biased opinion.

The screen is painfully slow on older Tesla's for sure, and its about $2.5k to upgrade to the newest one.

If this leaked launch schedule is anything to go by, the bz4x should be coming soon. I would call around the dealerships to find out which ones are taking a deposit. For reference I was able to put a deposit on another Toyota last year even though it wasn't officially announced.

Granville Toyota and Destination are both taking orders. I hear the list is pretty deep though...may not get one until mid 2023.

Someone I know is the first few on the list and scheduled to get his in June/July. Placed his deposit last year.

Thoughts on 2022 Rav 4 Hybrid XSE versus competitors in its class?

Not looking for full EV at the moment - its for my parents and they would not want the full-tech dashboards like in the ioniq 5, EV6 or Teslas. They currently have a 2019 X5 - urged them to trade it in before warranty ends (and with inflated used car prices). Almost getting what we paid for it 2 years ago.

Alternatives:
- Thinking about the Lexus NX350H or 450H as well. Extra $10k for quality interior.
- Hyundai Tucson / CRV - Hyundai was nice, however buttons were digital, and I would think resale is better on the Toyota if they ever wanted to change vehicles down the road.

In summary, criteria:
- Hard / tactile buttons for climate control
- Sub $50k
- Crossover/SUV for the height
- Hybrid or EV. good MPG
- Willing to go down from BMW x5 in terms of quality.

Yea but will the warranty run out before they come in stock? :troll:

All depends what one would need.

Older tesla may come with free SC for life...so uber/lyft driver would jump on those at the right price.

I'd take a model 3 over X/S any day. Way more nimble and lots of improvement.

With that said, a used model 3 could be under 75K even at the inflated rate. Now only if you will see stealerships jack the price up even more to capture some of the PST exemption as profits.

Alright, just picked up the Ioniq5. What do you guys want to know?

Going from a X5 to Rav4 would be a HUGE downgrade. It's fine if they are all city drivers, but if they do a lot of highway driving, I wouldn't recommend it. The touch points are fine but the Rav4 is NOISY on the highway.

Plus, I don't think the current BMWs are that bad in terms of reliability as long as you don't have a V8.

Maybe a Venza instead?

The Venza ( Harrier in Japan ) is incredibly popular among the middle-aged to senior population without going full Lexus for luxury. Haven't driven it personally but would assume it'd be a good middle point between RAV4 and BMW

The Venza isn't much better. It's a bit quieter but you loose out of some interior space. The top trim of the Venza has the larger screen which is actually harder to use. If you really want a high end Rav4 get the new NX.

I emailed inquiring a few dealerships to let them know that if anyone cancels their LR AWD Ultimate, that I am ready to buyout full and they don't seem to give a shit lol KEKW

I guess that loophole got stopped by Hyundai Canada, everything goes by their registered list now or something

twitchyzero 02-24-2022 02:16 PM

JDMDreams 02-24-2022 02:43 PM

Looks like reviews are coming out from the other side of the pond.

The cars are pre production prototypes, the camo wrap looks pretty sweet though.

twitchyzero 02-24-2022 07:45 PM

kinda disappointed it's still using ICE bones instead of skateboard

In some way, the camoflauge wrap looks better than the mis-matched panel of the production version

Thanks for the input - well go check out the NX 350H as well!

Definitely a downgrade from a midsize X5, but I think at least going hybrid is the way to go going forward (Premium fuel almost $2/L..). Will miss this B58 engine though :D

NX350h = Rav4 Hybrid
NX450h = Rav4 Prime
