Any thoughts about the Polestar 2? Base model is just under 50k and isn’t a crossover/SUV wannabe. It’s made in China but build quality shouldn’t be worse than a Tesla…

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...buzz-revealed/

It says this version is 78" wide and 76" tall which doesn't compute in my head or with the photos I'm looking at (looks taller than wide). If this is the Euro version how the heck will fit on Euro roads at 78" wide? Are they sure that's not the measurement with the mirrors out?

Anyways, I think it looks great and I wish they'd sell the SWB version with 3 rows in Canada.

Honestly not bad, build quality should bas as good as Volvo which means miles better than Tesla.

I would spring for the $5,500 `Plus` package to get the Heat pump, Pano roof, Harman Kardon Sound system, Better seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel.

Wow, those are standard on the Tesla.

Tesla is still $5k more and the base model 3 doesn't come with "Premium audio"

Polestar gives you the option if you don't want those extras you don't have to pay for it.

My buddy recently pre-ordered/bought a 2022 BRZ and the deposit was NOT refundable.

interesting, my subie sales guy told me if i put $ now for the solterra and change my mind it's fully refundable, but i'll keep this in mind if i choose to put $ down

68style 03-10-2022 07:57 AM

I think it depends, they had BRZ units incoming and it had a lot of hype so I can understand why they didn’t want unsure buyers

Yup. Morrey Nissan did the same thing to me when I put a deposit down on an SE-R Sentra before they were released.
Then they tried to jack up the price over MSRP because of the hype.

Never buying another car from Morrey Nissan because of it.

tegra7 03-10-2022 08:17 AM

Price on the Tesla Model 3 LR and Model Y LR went up by about $2200 yesterday.

Not that I am going to buy one, but did they say why they raised the price?

Rivian raised their prices on their vehicles too.

Yeah but then if you want the newly released stuff, you have to wait another 2 years!

I know its off topic but:

Story? just curious how they tried to justify it, how much you ended up paying, what the arguments were, what documents were signed.

EvoFire 03-10-2022 09:15 AM

So I was poking around to see what the prices are for various plugin hybrids and EVs. The Audi Q4 etron is available soon, basically Audi's version of the ID4, but was told there's a 18m waitlist already.
The first Solterras should be arriving in May and delivery by the summer.

Basically they said the $1000 deposit was non refundable because of the hype on the car.
It was a 2002 Sentra SE-R spec V, Nissan's attempt to compete against the ITR. :heckno:

Then when the car arrived, they said the car was above MSRP. It wasn't much, I think $1000.
But end of the day, I had to fight them tooth and nail as other dealers were selling the car at MSRP.

I mean I should have walked away and lose that $1000 deposit but 20 years ago that money meant a lot more than it does now and I was young and stupid.

Now I am old and stupid.

68style 03-10-2022 11:19 AM

Yah when my friend got the new BRZ and was putting down the deposit, he made the salesman reply to his email saying the price quoted would be what he paid when he picked it up, because we did see in the fine print somewhere that they reserved the right to make changes to pricing.

They didn't try to jack it up at all thankfully, and he had the email saying they wouldn't as well so he felt pretty solid.

He's trying to order something after it already came out though... last pig at the trough so-to-speak......... you could see something coming out and order prior to release and be way up in the queue.

The Ioniq and EV6s are nice but I ended up with a new Soul EV since it's cheap to lease and adequate for my needs. I got one within the month of my deposit and it's stupid fun to drive even with the base trim.

I don't think Tesla said why they increased the price but my assumption is it's due to increased costs on the raw materials of the batteries.

Is the Soul EV the same or similar to the Niro EV? I see that the Niro also has a PHEV hybrid option.

Someone at Hyundai and Kia were quite forward thinking with their line of EV, PHEV, and Hybrid vehicles.

I've only sat in a Tesla and haven't driven it so my opinion is just the initial impressions. The build quality, both interior and exterior is miles better than a Tesla Model 3. It's made in China which I was kind of skeptical about at first but you can definitely tell it's still engineered in Sweden and there's some pretty strict quality control in comparison to a Tesla. My opinions come from driving a dual motor AWD and not the base FWD single motor.

From what I've read and watched, Model 3 has more range and is power powerful but the Polestar 2 was a better all around car.

PM me if you're considering and would like to test drive one :)

The higher-spec Soul EV Limited and Niro EV have the same specs - 201hp, 291lb-ft, 64kWh battery with 383km range. My Soul at the lower-spec Premium trim only has 134hp and 248km range, but it's still good for 291lb-ft of torque which is more than plenty for its size. No PHEV option on the Soul like the Niro though.

The more interesting thing on these Kia models is that its range figures are underrated - people tend to go over 400km range on the higher-capacity models, while I'm seeing closer to 280km instead of the rated 248km range on my Soul with its smaller battery.

I'm going to have a test drive this Saturday in Richmond. In my conversation with the salesperson, he said estimated wait time for Ioniq 5 delivery is 8-12 months.

Hopefully they give you a longer date so that you're pleasantly surprised when it arrives earlier...

Good thing about Hyundai, the list is maintained at the corporate level to make it fair.

Is it the Soul EV Premium you have at the lower-spec? Browsing on the KIA website and it lists both the Premium and Limited as having the same power at 201kW and 291lb torque. Only difference being the range... Its kind of hard to find information on this as this car isn't offered in the states so very few reviews on the thing
