I don't know to feel bad or stupid for those buying a new car now. You're paying over MSRP, begging for allocation and paying high interest. :suspicious: or are we gonna have a huge amount of repos coming

Dbone 03-15-2023 06:45 PM

That's exactly it. The wife's going to get a Mazda 3 or a Corolla or something like that. We'll skip this gen of EV and maybe get one in 10 years when we don't have to deal with this garbage service.

Of course, as I do so they say, hey we happen to be getting exactly the spec you asked for in a couple of weeks. You can have it if you pay the extra $5k for all the garbage dealer options you don't want.

Nope.

Which dealership did you have your deposit at?

GLOW 03-16-2023 09:07 AM

yeh that's why i've elected to buy out my lease when it's up.

i'll look in to EV for my next vechicle purchase years down the road and hope it's less greasy than it is now.

Good fucking god some PHEV tech is still pretty trash.

Drove a rental Phev Mitsubishi Outlander yesterday. Battery went from 100% to 0% in about 15/16KMs.. :lol

Hondaracer 03-16-2023 11:35 AM

Cyber truck not coming till 2030? IG is full of people cancelling their orders? Lol

jing 03-16-2023 12:16 PM

There's a whole fleet of the new Ioniq 6's in various colours outside the Hyundai corporate office on Marine Dr if anyone wanted to see them in the flesh. Can't say that it's a good looking vehicle, especially with the rear end looking like a modern interpretation of the Infiniti J30.

Plug in tech is seriously no good, IMO it felt like PHEV is a manufacturer's pilot program to test their EV technology out and shove it down customer's throats to be the test bunny. Then when everything matures and smooths out they roll out the real EV cars.

To be honest, out of all the phev... yea... outlander is... we had one sitting for 90 days...

On the other hand, my own prius prime is brilliant, official EPA is 45KM, we get 52KM out of it in summer with A/C on in hilly Burnaby, and winter currently is still sitting around 42KM, and dipped to 37KM in the snowy days... pretty consistent as it is my daily right now, I charge at home... drive to work... charge at work... drive home... still $0 gas =D

PHEV is the worst of both worlds. Still the upkeep and maintenance of an ICE car and shit range of an electric car.

dark0821 03-16-2023 07:00 PM

Or the best of both worlds.

Enough range to goto/from work, be used as an EV for 5 days of the week, and not get restricted by charge networks for a road trip and weekend getaway.

PHEV is a fantastic choice for someones "only" car or a 1 car garage.

JDMDreams 03-16-2023 07:01 PM

^^ well it's still less gas than what you would have used on hybrid, there's no range anxiety, just press a button and the gas motor will charge the battery for you.

No, apparently the first 10,000 will start coming out this year, it's just that they're going to limit total production to 500,000 units by 2030. So many people with deposits are still going to need to wait many more years before they get one.

68style 03-17-2023 08:18 AM

They're suddenly going to build 10,000 cybertrucks by the end of this year?

Yah right lol

Great68 03-17-2023 09:04 AM

Yeah I know. At this point who even wants one? I'm already seeing F150 lightnings like crazy, and even a couple Rivians on the island now. The only people that would get a cybertruck at this point are Tesla Fanboys that really would never fit in as a typical truck owner anyways.

Just because it doesn't fit your world doesn't mean it doesn't fit mine.

The update X5 PHEV has 120km range. It means I'll effectively burn no gas around town but I can drive our own vehicle to snowboard at Big White, take it to the island and have no range anxiety. We were in Kelowna checking into our hotel and there was a family talking about having to charge their car. The chargers at the hotel costs more than getting gas at the gas station so they'll have to drive it two blocks away to charge for cheaper. Sounds pretty annoying to me.

Now about that 130k out the door price for the X5....... I might need to sell a kidney.

Great68 03-17-2023 09:27 AM

IMO

For a 1 car household a PHEV makes some sense.

A 2 car household, a PHEV doesn't make any sense.

68style 03-17-2023 09:42 AM

We have some Outlander PHEV's at work and they really suck... I won't base my opinion off them because they're just terrible... got forced to buy them because we have to buy green in any vehicle category that has a green option and you know Mitsu is not selling their Outlander PHEV's if they're offering them to the government at a discount.

I'm sure some other ones work much better and are situationally very good for certain families though!

JDMDreams 03-17-2023 09:45 AM

What's bad about it? I haven't driven the latest face lift one, but I drove a 21 and it seems fine. Coworker has one and no complaints either.
