what are some EV's that has comparable ins premiums to gas counterparts?

i was just reading some people with ~20 year clean record was paying $2800/y for new RX hybrid? hot damn

the much higher premiums wipe out a massive chunk of the gas savings

I am actually not that surprised -- the RX 350h is a $66k vehicle, and the RX 500h is a $85.6k vehicle. Hybrid components are not cheap to fix. So while $2800 certainly seems a bit high, it doesn't seem excessively so.

With the way prices are looking, I think I'm gonna end up driving my pos shxtbox for at least another 10 - 15 years...
(and enjoy it's $1400-ish / yr insurance)

Maybe not directly, but it's great for marketing, and that's a way better way to spend money than making a shitty TV commercial or whatever.

Shoot away -- here in the forum, or via DM. I'll answer them at best I can.

Our X5 PHEV is 2500/y iirc. My M3 is also $2200/y. Based on value of the vehicle and cost to repair, they are roughly inline with each other.

Our X3 was 1800/y. It was as low as 1300/y at one point but has gone up quite a lot.

This is all based on leisure use. The spread between ICBC and BCAA optional was small for us.

I'm surprised you are paying so much on the 2. I'd think it'd be down in the 1100, not that 300/y is a HUGE difference.

Just checked again, and it's a hair below $1300 for full coverage -- liabilty + collision + comprehensive. Add the $50-something licence fee, and it's ~$1350 for the year.

FWIW, my driver factor is 0.511. I think I'm easily claim-free for the past 10+ years?

I've never had insurance below I think $1450. Model 3 $24xx. Regular V8 Lexus cars around $1650 a year.

I even asked for a quote on kei car and it was $14xx, and I was like WTF for 65hp

I had a chance to experience the Lucid Air for a few hours in San Francisco last weekend through Four Seasons’ SF Lucid drive promotion, which allows guests to drive the car anywhere they like for up to 4 hours.

I have to say, I was very impressed with the Lucid. I love the styling, the interior quality was on par with high end luxury sedans, and the performance for such a big, heavy car was impressive. The only negatives were the weak audio system and the slightly laggy infotainment system. It’s definitely piqued my interest in the brand.

At this stage in the game how can any auto manufacturers have a shitty audio system?

Like.. pay Bose to create a 12 speaker system, have a head unit that can power it, people love it

Nickel and diming the speakers on a $50,000+ car? Fuck

It is precisely when you contract Bose to do your audio system where you'll get a shxtty system LOL~

Burmester gets my vote for a high quality factory audio system. Then again, I'm too much of a peasant to own a car that has Burmester as the factory audio.

My plan is
1000 collision
300 comprehensive
2million liability

iX $2300 ICBC (cheaper than model Y)
M4 $1800 ICBC basic, third party for comp/collision

IMO it’s better to run high deductibles as $1000 doesnt really put you into bankruptcy for most people.

Do you need to have collision on such old cars like the sc430/camry?

Is there a higher deductible? Or is $1000 the highest?

You can go $2000, and $5000 I think but if you want roadstar plus it has to be $1000 max. Plus the savings dont go up as much as $300 to $1000.

Bowers & Wilkins in the X5 is amazing. But you really can truly enjoy it while driving as there's just too many noises. You need to shut all the windows and park the car, then you can enjoy the sound stage.

And laggy infotainment. There's zero excuse for that these days.

Toyota needs to stop using JBL, the Supra had a fucking brutal sound system which is inexcusable in a car of it price range with everything copied from BMW already why not also the sound system?? Bizarre.

Mercedes Burneister system as mentioned above is really really good. Funny enough my second best sounding car is my 2004 Lexus IS300 with no name Toyota parts and no upgrades in 21 years.

The Miata’s Bose system is extremely bassy but not a good quality sound.
