Mark you calendars, Dec 3rd it's gonna be a good one.

Report: Kadri avoids supplementary discipline for hit on Sedin
Justin Cuthbert Nov 6, 2016 8:41 AM
Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri will reportedly avoid supplementary discipline for his blindside hit on Daniel Sedin on Saturday night, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

It was without question a malicious hit, and it had quite a violent consequence as Sedin's helmet was jarred loose before his head hit the ice. But while Kadri delivered the contact from the blindside, he came through the body of Sedin, who still had the puck.

Kadri received a five-minute charging penalty, as well as a fighting major after being challenged by Jannik Hansen. The incident sparked a series of fights, spears, and general misconduct between the two teams, which combined for more than 100 minutes in penalties.

He's been suspended three times previously by the NHL's Department of Player Safety.

NHL Department of Player Safety forms as a result of Cooke-Savard and Richards-Booth blindside hits that ended Savard's career and destroyed Booth's career.

Blindside hits outlawed following season ('10-'11).

Blindside language removed the following season ('11-'12), but still enforced.

No longer enforced in '16-'17.

Unbelievable ... Department of Player Safety should be disbanded, honestly. There's no player safety element there if they allow these hits to go unpunished.

Fucking unbelievable... I don't even feel like watching the NHL anywhere near as much as I used to, it's such an obvious bush league with overt favortism and prejudice. I like watching the skill of the players, but I feel so depressed about the state of the league in general... and that was before the Canucks freefall.

Basically the league is telling the players to deal with it themselves, which they will the next game.

What a joke the NHL is.

We all know what happened to Steve Moore when the NHL didn't deal with a cheap shot properly. That next meeting should be interesting.

I actually don't think it will be interesting at all, too much time will have passed (a month basically) and everyone's anger has dissipated, frustration at unfair and randomly enforced "rules" that change shape depending who the perpetrator(s) is/are... just leads to indifference and "Fuck, whatever" kind of attitudes by the victims. When you know the system you're playing in is rigged, you lose hope.

Then you'll have Willie and the rest of the brass going "Let's beat them on the scoresheet boys, don't sink to their level" and combine that with all the instigator ejections and fines that the league DOES enforce and you're going to have a Canucks team that appears to largely ignore what happened, besides maybe Dorsett or Guddy throwing the gloves off with Martin and wrestling for a couple minutes before the linesmen break it up. It's going to be completely unsatisfying is my prediction.

Waiting for his invite to the next ASG. Lol

But if the Canucks really wanna piss off the Leafs on Dec 3rd, forget going after Martin, they should rough up Matthews. That'll piss em off. I can see last nights game being a turning point for the season. The team has lost 8 in a row, got beat up on the score board and physically and witnessed their goalie and oldest player sticking up for a new teammate.

Well, that explains everything. "Bizzaro" from DC Comics comes to mind.

Fun fact:

John Scott retired after being an All-Star MVP the previous season.

The last person to retire after being named All-Star MVP was Wayne Gretzky

Pffffffffffft...oh NHL you guys are so nice not to suspend Miller time. How can we thank you?

Report: No suspension for Canucks' Miller following 2 misconducts
Cory Wilkins Nov 6, 2016 2:33 PM
Vancouver Canucks goalie Ryan Miller won't face supplementary discipline following a pair of misconducts in Saturday's affair against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Postmedia's Ben Kuzma reports.

Miller was ejected at the 14:52 mark of the third period after leaving his crease to fight Maple Leafs forward Matt Martin. Miller was whistled as the third man in, as Canucks forward Brandon Sutter was already engaged in the scrum.

The Canucks netminder was assessed a penalty for leaving his crease, as well as a pair of misconducts, totaling 22 minutes in penalties.

According to Kuzma, the NHL has rescinded one of the misconducts. Had both remained in place, Rule 403b states that two misconducts in one game is grounds for a two-game suspension, at minimum.

Backup Jacob Markstrom filled in for the game's remaining 5:08, but did not face any shots. The Maple Leafs won 6-3, while the Canucks won't have to wait long to respond, as the two teams meet up in Vancouver on Dec. 3.

Lol how do you rescind a misconduct after the fact.

"Too much paperwork and flack to deal with, let's just wipe one of the misconducts and life will go on. Canucks fans can't say that we're biased then..."

The refs have to do paperwork regardless if it's rescinded or not. Any time they assess a match penalty, a non-fighting major penalty, or a misconduct, they have to file a report explaining why.

^that wasn't really the point... Its the NHL that rescinded one of the 2 misconducts not the refs.

Presumably 1 for Miller jumping in as 3rd man, and 1 for leaving the crease (as Anderson was also ejected with 1 misconduct for leaving the crease).

So I'm curious to the justification for rescinding 1 of 2 misconducts; either nhl deems Miller didn't go in as 3rd man or he didn't leave the crease--or they make up and change the rules as they go along.

Actually, it is the refs. The league can also overturn it if they disagree with the refs.

Quote:
The Blue Jackets had 48 hours from the end of the game to request the penalty be lifted, but they didn't take that much time. The NHL, once it receives a request, allows the game officials -- in this case, Kevin Pollock and Justin St. Pierre -- to watch replays of the hit and gives them the option to rescind the penalty.
