^ I never understand this thinking, people who, at the first sign of a major service, decide to buy a new car instead??? You do realize that on a $30,000 vehicle that $5,500 gets literally thrown away in taxes and freight right?

Gotta wait until evening light, and/or brace my mount so I can lower the shutter speed while still keeping the dash in focus...But it was sunny this afternoon in Port, so ditch the office and get out and drive!

Absolutely, its obviously something you can't just decide on the spot. For me though, its just a case of have i enjoyed the car enough at this point, and does it make sense to dump a bunch of money into it if the goal is to get something different anyways.
Cars never make financial sense. Period.

Dave, i'm not sure if i've asked this before or not. But is there anywhere you've got a write up or more details/pics of the car? I haven't really looked/searched that hard but would love to see/know more.

Not judging here but genuinely curious. Is that thing awd or 4wd? If awd how did the system react with the chains on the back?

I have a complete build thread, including all the questions/mistakes/etc up on on one of the Volkswagen Forums.
If you're really bored, it's only 37 pages long :P

Otherwise, hit me up with your email address and I'll share one of the Magazine articles on the car. For obvious reasons, I don't think posting scans online are the right thing to do :P

It's 4x4. Has 2wd, auto 4wd and full time 4wd, just like any GM truck, it just doesn't have 4lo (low range).

Havn't had a problem with chains on the back yet, it's a little harder than trucks to get them on, cause tighter space, and you really need to make sure they are good and tight so they don't slap around.

It was a rash decision to switch from a pickup to this, I only did it to stop other site workers from hopping in the thing and using it to move around garbage and stuff (Per the BC mines act I have to leave the keys in the ignition all the time). Now nobody touches it, cause they understand it isn't just some general use vehicle.

Put some shoes on... Big thanks to the guys at Drivehard for swapping my tires on to my new rims without a scratch and for doing an unexpected fender roll!

Yep. I've been clenching my butt every drive so far haha. I'm going to raise the car a touch since I'm old, and I also would like to put 8.5s with 245s up front as well. The car actually does feel more planted in the front with it fully extended.

____

Uh.. How fast to you drive on the streets?

westopher 04-09-2017 12:18 PM

Porteau cove runs on the old highway 99 with no one on it?
Uhhhhhhhh...... fast enough for the splitter to feel like it does something.
It also might be total placebo effect. I definitely am not what I'd call an aggressive/fast driver on the street.
