Yup. I go for a quick 20 minute trip over the border and get my gas and save at least $50 each fill up. Not gonna pay these jacked up prices we have here. | Do you fill up a gas can as well or does your car have a huge tank? I can fill up a full tank at $60~.
I might only save maybe $20-25~ so it's not worth it for me. But then again, I also live farther than 20 mins from the border, lol.

Sorry, but just because you spend a ridiculous $15K/year on fuel does not mean everyone do too. To make $1510/year in dividends is totally viable. Your argument is flawed. | Don’t be sorry about what I spend. Be sorry for coming at me with a weak argument.
First off, the average B.C. income is what you should be looking at. Currently sitting at $76,770, which means that if your number of 3.245% is actually closer to $2340.
$2340 over 12 months is equal to $195/month in gas.
Filling a Honda 4 times a month at $50/tank is more than $195 a month. Judging by the number of trucks and large sedans on the road, I guarantee that most spend more than that. I average $110/tank and I fill up 5-6 times a month. $660 x 12 = $7920 a year on one car. I have 5. If you think anyone here who lives in say, Coquitlam and works in Vancouver could get away with spending $1510 a year in fuel, you’re delusional.

Is 76k the average individual income in BC or family income?

I based this in family income, as it was the most realistic number that I could find. Which makes my numbers even more dramatic, as I took family income and divided by one vehicle. Add in another vehicle, and our costs are even higher.
Could you imagine if we could get away with >$200 a month in gas?
With everyone pushing out further east, and the ever increasing cost of fuel, it’s even less likely that dividends could even come close to covering those costs.
Btw, I hold a number of fuel companies, along with the Canadian banks. The Banks pay nice dividends, but as badhobz said, those are taxed quite high.
You just can’t win living in BC.

According to your calculation, it will take an investment of $65417. Again, totally doable.. whats your point?

If so, you should fire your broker because unless you have 7 figures invested diversely, you’re far too Exxon stock heavy. What do you pay in capital gains every year on those shares? Have you maxed or your tfsa and rrsp?
If not, you’re leaving money on the table.
If so, you are a wealthy guy.
Either way, $65k in Exxon Mobil is baller status. Why even worry about the cost of gas if you’re ballin’? |

Who says it has to be on 1 stock? Exxon only pays 3.5% dividend which isn't a lot. There are others that pay upwards of 10%. For the sake of argument, I'll use 3.5% as the average dividend in my portfolio. 100% doable.

Pretty sure neither of your investments have anything to do with the price of local gas.

Get a tidy tank in the back of your pickup,
go fill it up in US then come back and charge per liter much less than local gas stations.
Profit.
Bootlegging Gas? lol
I just googled gas prices in Bellingham and it's 82cents per liter Canadian. 400L tidy tank = $328. Come back and sell for 1.25/L = $500 $172 profit. Not a bad days work lol
Berz out.

best part is I sell tidy tanks and all the pumps/meters. I could easily set it up, get everything at cost. I have Nexus as well so getting fuel would be beyond simple for me, best part is I could get everything I need at cost as well LOL
To answer your question for it to be legal I would have to have everything Weights and Measures certified for resale.

Not sure if this link will work for you guys, but here's a link to GasBuddy Dan's Twitter where I get my updates on Vancouver gas prices: Or search "#Vancouver from:GasBuddyDan" and click on Latest
He sometimes talks about current events of the oil and gas industry, but mainly points to Vancouver being a price taker. Price taker or not, it still feels like collusion / gas cartel.

And gas got another 2 cents more expensive this morning compared to yesterday...
Fxxk I only have ~100km left on the car before I need gas again, and the low fuel light should come on in the next 40km or so...

Gas right now in Mission is $1.24.9 which is crazy for out there. At least I don't have to pay the crazy $1.40+ prices all of you guys are paying.
