I was at the record shop that replaced Black Dog Video on the Drive. Essential Soul Records, it's called. I picked up a few CD's and forgot about them. Just played one. Diana Krall Christmas Songs. Chanteuse, she is. Not everybody's cup of tea, but really nice recording/compilation. I remember I was at a jazz festival and one of the guest performers was Diana Krall. This was when she was still in high school. She's from the Island (Nanaimo). Beckham can bend it, but this gal can bend it, too. What a voice....... contralto and sexy as all hell. https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/pro...CABEgIN3_D_BwE |
Montreal is beautiful with the snow. https://i.postimg.cc/pLnZk709/IMG-2231.jpghttps://i.postimg.cc/FFDDK0dK/IMG-2258.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/s2dJLc8T/IMG-2289.jpg Puts me right in the mood for Xmas This G80 rental ain’t bad either. Hyundais come a long way |
Damn they gave you a G80 for rental? That's pretty sweet |
Way better than the Buick he got last time! |
Yeah it’s a nice perk. It’s that Amex aeroplan reserve card again. It gives you Avis presidents club status for just holding the card. I paid for a Corolla (intermediate class) and I get their top of the line whatever.https://i.postimg.cc/FH4hJ6DV/IMG-2355.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/vZtb7vKF/IMG-2350.jpg This thing is quite plush. Inside and out. Not a big fan of the huge grille but whatever. |
Back to christmas……………. Sort of. Hallelujah, written by Canadian artist, Leonard Cohen, is now considered a christmas song. Wow, the song was about sexual innuendo and slight on religion. Cohen was Jewish and studied Zen Buddhism for roughly five years. Was a monk, of all things. The song Hallelujah originally had 15 verses, but only 6 were recorded. Various changes were made over time, but wow, a christmas song? Spoiler! I love how he writes. Lyrics with plenty of deep, deep meaning. My favourite song "Famous Blue Raincoat." So beautifully written. The man was forever tortured by his own mind. Creative minds.............. some scary shit, man. |
even worse was his manager embezzling millions from him, selling his music rights by forging documents. poor bastard had no idea. I was listening to an interview and he said it forced him to go back on the road for many years. he was pretty much into retiring , but back to work he went, in his early 70's. the only upside was he kinda enjoyed his reborn career. |
I bring this up every year............... if you see the Salvation Army Kettle, give what you can. I make it a point to travel with extra change in my pocket this time of year. I stop and talk to the people, most of whom are volunteers, about my 16 years of living in the DTES. I tell them how the good folks at the temple on Gore and Hastings helped everyone and anyone without questions or being judgemental. Upon hearing this, they all open up and talk about how they or some person they know got help from the Salvation Army. Most people just walk on by and say nothing or just put something in the kettle with no eye contact. In the end, I tell them to keep up the good work. It really makes their day. Some of their stories are very heartwarming. I even get the "god bless" here and there, lol. Throughout the year, when I come across old clothes or tools and appliances, I donate them to the SA Goodwill location on Hastings and Gilmore. All that stuff gets put to good use. The Sally Ann is one of the very few charities out there that really make a difference. If not the Salvation Army, Covenant House is another charity that does a lot of good work. https://www.covenanthousebc.org Season for giving. Anyway............................... |
Fireplace channel. For once, I want to see the set catch on fire and blow up. Anyway, channel 198 and 199 on Ignite TV (Shaw). I swear, the room gets warmer, gulolololol. The mind is a scary thing. Like a guy I used to know……….. he would go up to a pinup poster and try to look up the girl’s skirt. Joking of course, but I actually saw people try it after seeing him do it. Monkey see, monkey do. We called it the IQ test. |
What ? How does that work for a poster ? It’s 2D. I don’t get it. |
Fucking hell. I wanted to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. Searched all the channels and couldn’t find it. Turns out the rights are now owned by Apple. You have to subscribe to a streaming service. So, going out to get a 4K HD Blu-Ray copy of it from the States. Might as well get a good version of it. https://www.cosmopolitan.com/enterta...wn-christmas/# Can order it on Amazon.ca for two to three times the price, plus not arriving till after Xmas or get it at Best Buy in the US for $13.99 USD. https://www.amazon.ca/Charlie-Brown-.../dp/B073VC9D8X |
https://youtu.be/HtZYc_95e9g?si=zT_stVNu6I1geVu_ Toe tapper. Reminds me of CFL coverage on TSN. Same music/style, just different words. |
Lights at Lafarge Lake Coquitlam............... Metro Vancouver's largest free christmas display lights. I went today with daughter. Very nice. Laid back and relaxing. Lots to do, if you go at the right time. https://www.coquitlam.ca/784/Lights-at-Lafarge While there................Rocky Point Ice Cream. Doesn't matter if it's freezing cold or desert hot. Always good. https://rockypointicecream.com |
I see Whamageddon is a thing going around. as sugary bad as it is, I can think of at least a dozen other songs that have to go. |
https://i0.wp.com/www.pornhubapparel...g?w=1000&ssl=1 I really wanted this for the office Xmas party but the fuckers don’t have it in my size (2XL). I should have just went to their Montreal office and demand they give me one. |
Love the carrot. Should have used those Asian carrots. Thick as a daikon. Butt it wouldn’t work, ‘cause we all know…………… is there such a thing as black carrots? |
If you’re looking for something to do that’s christmas related………….. https://www.vancouversymphony.ca/eve...ne-in-concert/ Two shows left. Highly recommended. Nothing beats live music. Edit: one show left. There’s always Elf. https://www.vancouversymphony.ca/con...full-calendar/ VSO Christmas https://www.vancouversymphony.ca/eve...nal-christmas/ RS…………. Helping cultureless Oompa Loompa's open their eyes, since 2002. Speaking of, just saw trailer of the new Wonka movie, where one of the Oompa Loompa’s says, "I’m of respectable size…………….. for an Oompa Loompa," gulolololol. |
I like the song, Driving Home for Christmas. There's the one line in the lyrics I could never figure out.............. tuck your toe in tail lights....... lol. My Mondegreen. https://www.smoothradio.com/features...-lyrics-video/ What's with the guy's eyebrows. Nice story, in any case. Lyrics............ Spoiler! |
St. Andrew’s Cathedral - reason enough to go. The acoustics are heavenly. Add to that an all men’s choir. No homo, but they are…………. No words to describe it. https://chorleoni.org/event/christmas-with-chor-leoni/ Ps………….. don’t show up in Kirkland attire. Just kidding. |

In regards to Elf, not sure if it’s still going but we saw a live performance of Elf at the Stanley last month and the Stanley is hugely hit and miss with its plays but elf was REALLY good, highly recommended |
I love christmas............. great time of year. Butt, I just saw a commercial from Canadian Tire that just made me love christmas a little less............ I've spoilered it because you know what they say...... once seen, cannot be unseen. Spoiler! Having said that, the latest commercial with that song, "For the First Time." is great. The song is a version nobody can identify. The most known version was recorded by the Platters back when the world was, "white and alright." NOT. BTW, it's an Italian song. |
A very Merry Christmas to all my brothers on RS! I wish you and your families all the best! Don’t look at the credit card bill. |
We opened our gifts on Xmas eve. I got some new Sony earbuds (WF1000XM5) and got my wife a Kitchenaid mixer (cookie day tomorrow!) Merry Xmas! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GCH-jjraQAAA5jz.jpg |
