Curious, when do you folks start putting up your Xmas tree?
Wife has been on my ass to buy a new one.. but, I've been a little reluctant because it's only Nov 13...

MG1 11-13-2020 06:12 PM

I hate live Xmas trees. My wife loved the smell of freshly cut tree. I hated the live stuff, because of the bugs that would keep crawling out of them. I finally convinced her not to get live trees. "It's alive. How can you kill it?" That convinced her and for at least 15 years, we've had a fake one. For the last few years, it's been a three foot tall tree that I just put in a large plastic tote after New Years. I even leave the decorations and lights on it when packing it up, lol. Like the tree in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", I want one that folds up like an umbrella.

As for when I put mine up. Two days before Xmas............. I shit you not.

Wife's gone, two of my children have moved out. Nobody living here, except the youngest............. still they will be back here for Xmas. My daughter is really into the Xmas scene and she would be devastated if a tree, of any kind, was not up at the house.

Yay, Hallmark christmas Chanel is up and running. Don Henley, ftmfw! Then, soon afterwards, I heard the most horrendous rendition of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer ever. Done by the temptations. A real boner killer. It’s like the Integra Girl of XMas songs. I don’t even want to search for it or upload it here. It is truly offensive.

Beginning of December.

What are your favourite songs for Christmas?

This is something different. Lil Jon's crunk song with the Kool Aid Man. :lawl:

Man, took some compromising but looks like we'll be putting it up on Black Friday. Even went out to Ctire a couple of times to look at some new trees. We gave our old one of 4 years to another couple. Never bought a real tree before, but a few friends have and it just seems like such a hassle with clean up, not to mention the bugs that come out of it. What do you guys prefer? real or fake?

Hondaracer 11-15-2020 08:24 PM

Real 100%

Jmac 11-15-2020 09:27 PM

We’ve been using plastic since we moved in together 18 years ago mainly because our apartment building didn’t allow real trees. But, at this point, real seems like such a hassle especially when we won’t be having any guests over because of COVID.

However, when I was a kid, real 100%. If we had kids, I would 100% get a real tree. Just makes it that much more special, IMO.

This has to be the most popular Christmas toy for 2020.

The Dumpster Fire. A toy for kids of all ages. :lawl:

Any and all XMas songs performed by Bruce Springstein should be banned from airing here in Canada. So fucking obnoxious. Oh, and Born in the USA for other times of the year.

David Foster........ another great Canadian musician/composer (Victoria, BC). This version has so many of his trademark "sounds", be it chord progression, use of dissonance, instrumentation, etc. A true genius.

Another different, but good rendition of the classic Xmas tune.

LOL @ the comments...........

This song makes me want to fight a bunch of pirates on a flying ship in order to save Christmas

To add to the previous post..........

Too lazy to really check it, but the piano is actually playing the right notes in some of it. Timing off at some places, lol. How hard it must be. I might have to add this to the bucket list, beit at the very bottom.

MG1 12-02-2020 10:02 AM

Since when did Canon in D Major become a Xmas song? It went from some obscure Baroque piece from the 17th century to being a wedding song to now Xmas.......... still an effective, beautiful composition. Historians believe Pachelbel wrote this piece for Bach's older brother's wedding. It became "The Christmas Canon," due to theses guys...........

Greensleeves is another example of a melody that wasn't created with Xmas in mind.

Did you know the Star Mangled Banner was a popular British song?
Spoiler!
The previous national anthem "America" was actually copied as well.......... God Save the King. Lyrics, it's all in the lyrics. sigh

wreck 12-02-2020 05:50 PM

I battle with it being a Christmas song as well, but it's definitely an amazing rendition
