I remember gas was less than 50 cents/litre when I was in high school back in the late-90s/early-00s.

Try 29.9 cents/L, dude.

I was in Ladner last night, and decided to head down to PR for gas since it was only a 10 min drive or so. It was 10pm when I got to the border, and OMFG the line up was backed up all the way to the traffic light. Nexus was already closed by then, and there was only 1 lane open at the US side. It wasn't pretty.

I ran some numbers after I got home, and Shell V-Power 92 octane gas turned out to be ~$1.524/L after exchange rate and my minimal $0.03/gal Fuel Rewards discount. By comparison, local 91 octane gas is around $1.719/L, though Shell V-Power is probably a touch more expensive.

Lastly, if I were to do a return trip from home to PR, it'd cost me $7+ for gas. A return trip to Blaine would be almost $9, although Blaine gas would be a touch cheaper.

Just got back from new ARCO station along meridian in Bellingham

regular was $3.13 / gallon ~ $1.08 per litre after conversion.

De-virginized my home trust visa (no foreign exchange fee)...

Premium 92 was $3.59 / gallon ~ $1.19 per litre after conversion.

But not here in BC. Anyway, my point being, people who use 91 gas tend to save more than the calculated math most article/people use. Plus....who goes to blaine just for gas in vancouver? Head out to Point Roberts, trip takes like an hour only from richmond
Takes me the same amount of time from Steveston going to PR or to Blaine, but Blaine is much cheaper.

Also you get to drive on the highway with no lights, and the gas station is closer to the border. No reason to go to PR.

As more fuel is being consumed, I'm noticing that the lack of power is still there (despite the car being lighter from less fuel). Also noticed I press the gas pedal a little further than usual to get the car moving.

Def, going back to premium

Blaine would have been $1.28/L for Shell 92 or Exxon 92 after cc conversion fee and exchange rate.

Weirdly enough, I feel like my car runs like shit on US Mobil (which is the same as Exxon and Esso) or US Chevron.

With the prices being this high I've noticed quite a bit less traffic. Maybe everyone went to the states or something. Today I was able to snag prime parking in Steveston as there was wayyy less people than usual on a sunny weekend.

I'm no physics expert but lighter tank contents is negligible unless you're driving something as featherlight as an open-wheel race car
placebo is probably more significant in these cases

For the guys who fill up and bring back jerry cans, do you guys get dinged? Or what do you really say or do the CBSA not really care? I'm planning to haul 4 25L jerry cans of Shell 92, works out to around $76 savings per trip after conversions, fees, and trip cost, but really in it for the better quality gas too now that the difference is so big. 125 vs 179...

SHELL REWARDS USA SIGNUP TIP:

1. go to shell.com US site
2. sign up for Rewards. YES, you will need a US address for your hardcopy card that you don't need.

This is what i did:

- signed up with fake name
- sent card to the shell gas station on D st
- my complete 7 digit phone number is my 'alt id' that I can enter at the pump manually without a card.

you ALWAYS get 5 cents off per gallon, as you buy more you will be surprised to save 20 cents per gallon and sometimes 30 cents per gallon like I did last time:
