-mentioned on this thread that one of my half-Hispanic cousins was born and raised in Venezuela. She has been living in New York on a work permit with her bf since 2015.

She sees this regime change of Maduro being ousted from Venezuela as a positive change for her homeland.

She is still anti-Trump though.

I agree with her about Maduro. He is a very corrupt piece of shit.

The surprise for me is that it took a very corrupt Cheeto to remove an equally corrupt Maduro from power.

For us Canadians, we cannot relate to the nightmare that my cousin went through when she lived in Venezuela.

Maduro was the Venezuelan president since 2013.

We can talk all we want on this thread about the politics about Cheeto’s move to oust Maduro.
We are very fortunate to not live in a nightmare of a country like Venezuela.

From the perspective of Venezuelans, this is a positive change.

My cousin’s parents, my aunt and uncle, still live in Venezuela. Uncle did not have a choice of not living there as he went with his Dad, my late grandfather, when uncle was 10 years old many decades ago to move to that country for my Grandpa to start a supermarket business. Gonna be an interesting phone conversation between my Mom and her brother, my uncle, about his thoughts of Maduro’s removal from power.

Regime change through US intervention is always a big gamble in the world we live in.

I understand that.

Keeping things status quo under Maduro is not what Venezuelans want for their country.

Maduro will not step down from power. There will never be free and fair elections in Venezuela as long as that dictator is in power.

So what choice do Venezuelans have in that situation?

Pray for regime change? Leave the country like what my cousin did to live in America?

I agree with people on this thread. This is a smoke and mirrors show that Cheeto did to distract Americans from the Epstein files AND to earn himself more chances to win a Nobel Peace prize in the future.

Controlling Venezuela’s huge oil reserves is a bonus too for Cheeto haha.

I love all the people I’m connected to in Alberta who are right wingers cheering this on or worse yet saying oh too bad Venezuela is the 51st state now I guess we have to be 52…

Like they don’t even realize this basically signals the end of any potential oil related economic boom in Alberta, why would the USA buy from Alberta when their refineries in Louisiana and Texas are already equipped to handle the same type of crude that they’re just going to steal from Venezuela now?

If I didn’t live here I’d be getting my fafo’s ready to serve up, but it’s going to really suck here now with Danielle going full steam ahead for oil thinking we’re going to be the next Norway on top of her data centre shenanigans.

Truly a fucked up world, who’s to say what right and wrong is anymore… Russia invades Ukraine, USA invades Venezuela… both sides claim to be doing it for reasons of justice, all a matter of perspective I suppose. We have always been asked to assume that the USA operates for truth and justice but I don’t know that most parts of the world see them that way anymore.

Time will tell whether this was just another economic move for billionaires.

Students were tortured on a routine basis when they organized protests against that Maduro.

Taking action on their own to overthrow Maduro would be a death wish.

I honestly cannot think of any other country’s government other than a U.S. government who would have the resources, the self-interest, and a corrupt enough leader who would want to remove Maduro from power.

Other South American nations with leaders with eyes on Venezuela? Nah. Those countries have their own corrupt leaders. They have their own political problems.

I hate Cheeto as much as my Venezuelan cousin.

I do think maduro needed to go, but the shine of that feeling is going to wear off very quickly when they find out there is no plan in place to keep the citizens of the country safe. There needed to be checks and balances involved from other countries and global organizations.
If anyone believes the US operates in the best interests of the countries they invade, I have a gulf of America to sell them.

Sure, what's going to happen to Venezuela remains to be seen.

However, among my acquaintances/F&F who have direct ties to Venezuela by either being a citizen of the country or have their F&F there, it's finally a ray of hope for them.

We, here in Canada, cannot fathom the thought of being oppressed for not years, but decades and where your original hope, the election, was totally controlled and manipulated by a dictator who'd do everything in their power to stay in power. Maduro was not a democratically elected leader, but an authoritarian dictator who manipulated both the legislative body as well as the judicial branch to have his way.

You can hate Cheetos all you want, but what he did to Venezuela was a thing that the majority of their citizens with any common sense had hoped and wished for decades.

The only people complaining are people who has TDS. Every Venezuelan I know personally have done nothing but celebrated what happened last night.
