It was fine and dandy when you don't need them, but then I had a claim 2 years ago and BCAA wouldn't cover damage that was on the wheels from the accident when it's clear that it was as a result of it. The agent insisted it was a curb mark despite it was not, and also on the left side of the car. I was out $300 to repair the wheels myself. That along with the cost in time of dealing with 2 separate insurance agencies for the repairs and BCAA and ICBC don't talk to each other, it was not worth it imo at the end and I went back to ICBC for the more straight forward process of dealing with claims.
Had a similar experience with BCAA, ended up doing the same thing and went back to ICBC despite the increased cost.

So we got our car back.. $7000 in repairs later..

They replaced the driver side headlight with a brand new headlight, it’s crystal clear looks great. However, the passenger side (which I guess wasn’t effected since the impact was on the driver side) was not replaced..

So now I’ve got one brand new headlight and one that’s cloudy and worn.. is there any recourse to go back to the body shop/ICBC and tell them his looks bad and have them replace the other one? The headlight was like $1600

If the right side of your car looked like ass, and someone hit the left side, would you go back and ask for a handout for the left side?

Go buy a headlight restore kit for 40$ and spend 1hr restoring it

Get some sandpaper and rub it all over the new one until it looks like it used to before the accident.

Would you have been happier if they found a headlight from a junkyard instead so it matched lol

If it matched yes.

I’ve gone the restoration before but it doesn’t last. I was hoping they had replaced the passenger side with a salvaged part so I have some leg to stand on in asking for a replacement but looks like only the driver side was replaced :/

Someone message private modder. Jokes aside, you have to polish the headlight and then use a 2k clear coat to seal the plastic housing.

Make sure you use a proper respirator as the 2k clear coat is bad for the lungs

get some justin beiber timbits from timmy's, go back to the body shop and ask them nicely to buff the old headlight to get it close to matching. Head over to a shop that does PPF, throw about $200 cash at them and tell them to put PPF on the headlights. now you'll have a nice pair of headlights until you get fok smashed again.

Well my car was “fixed” and it looks worse than before?

At least it was uniform previously. Not sure what the answer would be but I don’t think expecting my car which was damaged by no fault of my own to look as it did previously is asking for a hand out?

So not only did the value go down substantially, now I have to do my own work to correct the appearance? Sweet, the insurance I pay for is amazing..

It looks worse because the condition of your car wasn't great to begin with and now it's obvious with new parts and fresh paint?

Maybe I'll key my front fender and ask for my whole truck to be repainted because the paint looks too new on one panel now.

Everyone’s schils for ICBC now?

Your fender example isn’t even applicable because in that case they would obviously make an attempt to detail the panels which align with the fender in an attempt to get the paint to match as close as possible

I guarantee you if I made enough noise I could get something done about it, but was moreso asking if I had a case to argue wirh ICBC over it, guess I don’t and I’ll have to do it myself. The body shop has been amazing both times I’ve dealt with them so rather not drag them into anything anyways

my camry had a little bit of headlight yellowing, i went nuts with the headlight cleaner and now its REALLY REALLY yellow. kinda screwed myself trying to fix a non issue. Probably ended up polishing off the protective plastic layer.

Right now even if i was able to get it almost white, it turns back yellow after about a year. I use that maguires headlight restore kit and that protective UV spray doesnt really work. I guess the only thing left to do is to put on a layer of anti UV film, or just rock these yellow headlights since they look ricer-ish

They actually used a bunch of used parts on my car as well which I don’t really care about but stuff like the OEM fog lights were found through a wrecker as opposed to new

Which, it’s a 2011 so it is what it is, the headlight is just annoying

I'm sure the bodyshop will do their best to polish the old headlight if you asked, but please go full Karen to ICBC about getting a new headlight and report back to us please.

You can't really expect this kind of repair from ICBC tbh, like if one of your windows got smashed and the rubber trim was damaged and they replaced it... but the rest of your rubber trims and belt mouldings are 13 years old and more rough or less black looking, should they also have to replace every rubber trim around every window on your car? It doesn't work that way for a reason, costs would skyrocket. Just think of it more like you will have a nicer looking car and clearer headlights now (to look at + better illumination) and you only had to pay half the cost to do it.

I just think what you're asking is a little ridiculous. If you kept your car in mint shape and then they put on some used faded headlight then sure, I would say that's justified to ask that they should replace it with something that looked as good as what it used to look like.

What you're saying is the repair is too nice and now it's making your old stuff look even more shitty and ICBC should shell out another $1600 to replace something that wasn't damaged in the first place.

Like you said earlier, if they repaint a panel they'll try and detail the other ones so they match better, but it'll still never look as good as a freshly painted panel if the car is 10+ years old. This situation should be no different, try and polish the old headlight to match better, it'll never look as good as a brand new one, it is what it is.

You need to clear coat it properly otherwise it just hazes again real quickly. I did the headlights on my Miata and they still look good to this day.

Wet sanded then polished, then coated. The finish doesn't have to be perfect because once you coat it it'll fill in all the fine scratches
