SMH FailFish

All your hard work trying to better the situation, only to have this goof pull the most idiotic move anyone could make.

It's a shame the VPD will see that and believe that it's the stance of the car enthusiast community.

You mentioned that there is another section that deals with how to measure the decibels -- is that from the manual of the decibel meter? or are you suggesting the MVA or CVSE regs have included some sort of procedure and specifications as the official standardized method to measure exhaust noise?

When I first started looking into the exhaust noise issue, I couldn't find anything on standardized measuring procedure / protocol, and I was totally surprised beyond belief. When I later checked with CVSE regarding whether there is a standardized procedure, this is the reply from a CVSE program advisor:

He wants to play perpetual victim for social media points. Hating cops is in season right now and that bandwagon is piling up. By putting that banner over his windshield, he's clearly up there with Rosa Parks for bringing change to the marginalized :derp:

While innocent people get penalized for stock exhaust, this guy is making it all about himself. He won't fight for others. He's just trying to make a buck like the selfish dink he is.

CorneringArtist 06-15-2019 06:31 PM

Welp, either VPD sees it as ironic, or he's completely fucked up what Traum has been trying to fix on his behalf and set back relations even further than they already were.

Fucking attention seeking generation is undoing decades of work.

CorneringArtist 06-16-2019 12:36 PM

So I'm seeing the social media comments on this, and you can guess the average age of people saying that there is no problem with this and that it's just "a joke". It's not that hard to double down on stating that dumbass attention seeking kids are ruining this for everyone else. And guess who is still playing victim and declared that what he has done is justified.

twitchyzero 06-16-2019 01:23 PM

a fool's a fool

but why drag average age into this and make it into a our vs their generation division?

have we looked at our own cars when we were 19/20? none of y'all had attention-grabbing vw, nissan and honda tryna make a statement, right?

I know what cornering artist is trying to say, and it's not related to having a car that stands out, but the people defending him saying "It's just a sticker" are all obviously much lower in age as an average. I agree with you, generation or age has nothing to do with this. You can be immature at 40 the same way you can be at 16.

For the record for the people who are saying "it's just a sticker stop being so butthurt" a swastika is also just 4 lines, but you will get a crowd the size of BC place lining up to kick your ass if you throw one of those on your car, so lets not be stupid about this.

As I said in a FB post, I think it's stupid, but you cant stop some people from being stupid. You can take the NWA approach, or you can take the MLK approach, to each their own.

I was driving through a RCMP radar trap today past a park in my "race car" and I was shitting bricks as I rolled past. A Camry and an Echo was pulled over but luckily they barely bat an eye at me. Good job RCMP for doing your job properly.

RCMP have a much better rapport than the VPD with the car community lately. It used to be the opposite. I had an RCMP pull me over when I was unknowingly speeding in my stage 2 STI. All he said was "Nice car. Just so you know, the speed limit drops back there." Didn't even write me a warning and sent me on my way.

It's been like this for decades, young kids with obnoxiously modded cars causing problems for everyone else is nothing new.

There must be loop holes around this, Alberta plates? Private insurance from another province? Just like the Montana plates in the US.

tokyoteleport 06-17-2019 01:01 PM

Alberta plates are not easy to get if you don't live there, from what I understand its impossible actually to do so, and even if you do and get pulled over, if you have BC license you will get in big shit

No. Stop spewing misinformation.

tokyoteleport 06-17-2019 02:42 PM

???

https://www.canlii.org/en/bc/bcpc/do...11bcpc219.html

The driver produced a photo British Columbia Driver’s licence in the name of Ian Sheldon Shafer. Cst. Thompson satisfied himself that the person depicted in the photo on the licence as Ian Sheldon Shafer was the driver of the vehicle.

Cst. Thompson testified that, as Mr. Shafer, the driver of the vehicle, was unable to provide any proof of insurance, he asked Mr. Shafer how long he had lived in British Columbia and received an answer that he “was travelling back and forth between BC and Nevada”. When asked by Cst. Thompson how long he had been in BC this time, Mr. Shafer answered “four months”. Cst. Thompson testified that he then asked Mr. Shafer where he was presently living to which he received the answer “268 Milburne Drive, Victoria”.

Cst. Thompson testified that he was satisfied that Mr. Shafer had lived in British Columbia for 4 months and was not otherwise exempt from the requirement to insure his vehicle in British Columbia because he was not a student and did not meet any other exemptions so he issued Violation Ticket AH48416897 for speeding, no insurance and failure to register.

Sounds like big shit to me?

Even in court, he may have had NV insurance, but still got slapped with fail to register

GabAlmighty 06-17-2019 03:01 PM

There, now you've explained the laws. You have 4 months. I stand by my original post.

underscore 06-17-2019 03:11 PM

Per: https://www.icbc.com/brochures/Pages/moving-to-BC.aspx

Quote:

If you move to B.C., you can use your valid driver's licence from another province or country for up to 90 days.

If you're a tourist or aren't a resident, you can drive in B.C. for up to six months as long as you have a valid driver's licence from outside B.C. After that time, you need a valid B.C. driver's licence to drive here.
Quote:

If you move here with a vehicle (or if you're a returning B.C. resident), you need to register, license and insure the vehicle within 30 days of arriving. If you're driving a commercial motor vehicle, it must be registered, licensed and insured in B.C. immediately.
90 days to swap your license, and 30 to swap your registration. "13(1)(a) No vehicle license" is a $109, as is "31 (1) Fail to change address" but if they decide to hit you with "24 (3) (b) No insurance" you're looking at a $598 fine and an immediate tow.

Fines per: http://www.bclaws.ca/civix/document/...atreg/89_97_04

That's exactly my thoughts. Anyone who thinks this is harmless is very shortsighted.

Well I guess that kid is also a "tough guy" IRL with that sticker. Still a "tough guy", though.
