Police were there waiting at 830pm for the 9pm start with 7 cruisers and 15 officers. Low and behold a 240sx VI says to take it to a certified Nissan facility. An Eagle talon was told to take theirs to a certified Chrysler facility.

Sounds like they have learned from Vancouver PD and have decided to go after loud or modified vehicles in Victoria.

Police also allegedly said they would be at the meet with tow trucks every Friday night.

Ugh.

Plus cop can't do jack all because your car is inside your own house in your own private property. Until your car is on the city street, that's another story.

However there has been reports of the police being accompanied by a bylaws officer to give VIs to people on their private property. Not sure how valid it is, as these are 3rd party accounts, but given the extent of this situation, I wouldn't be surprised.

If it's your garage they can't just waltz in.

"can we come in?"
"Naw, brah"

Also as long as your not jack hammering noise loud, there's nothing for you to worry about. I start up and drive down the block to idle/warm up before I leave everyday. Not that I did anything wrong, just don't want to create nuisance from my loud car =P. End of the day, sounds like neighbour just complaining to you or other neighbours directly? Doesn't sound like city is involved because there is no way city would do anything from the sounds of the situation because the noise isn't happening at midnight disturbing others from rest.

It varies from city to city, but most places the noise bylaws prohibit excessive noise even within "daytime" hours. I'm not sure what private property has to do with anything, they dgaf what it is that's making the noise.

My first run in with the VPD in a very very long time.

So I was driving my Huracan in DT on the Saturday and there were two bike cops who had a limo bus pulled over. So I'm chilling at the lights and one of the of the cops comes over and tells me to roll my window down. Here's how the convo went down:

Cop: Just a heads up, if we hear your exhaust from a block away you're going to receive a ticket.

Me: Ok but I don't rev my engine so it's not going to be an issue.

Cop: Well I know all the modes in these cars and if you have it in sport mode and I can hear it I will ticket you.

Me: Ok but it's a stock exhaust which meets the federal requirements so how can you ticket me for a stock exhaust even if I drive in sport mode?

Cop: Well I can find a way(?)

Me: Find a way? How? I'll just dispute the ticket and prove to the judge the exhaust is stock.

Cop: I'm just telling you don't make noise, I don't want to hear your exhaust. I've ticketed your buddies and I will ticket you.

Me: My buddies? How do you know who my buddies are? I laugh. And what do you mean "don't make noise". Of course my car is going to make a noise but it's within the legal requirements.

Cop after a long pause: Provincial laws are different and we can ticket you. I'm a nice guy to give you a heads up, take my advice. Maybe you should stay out of DT. Have another call, good day.

^ lmfao what a fucking joke

CCA-Dave 07-09-2019 07:04 PM

What an ass. The "doing you a favour" act is icing on the cake.

Badhobz 07-09-2019 07:06 PM

The fuck! Such utter bullshit.

westopher 07-09-2019 07:32 PM

Yep. I'd think that the respectable police on the force wouldn't be all that happy about their colleagues going around trying to intimidate the public and escalate situations that shouldn't even exist in the first place. Its embarrassing.

CorneringArtist 07-09-2019 08:40 PM

Straight up intimidation. When did VPD decide to profile motorists as harshly as general criminals?

MarkyMark 07-09-2019 08:44 PM

When it comes down to it he won't ticket you he'll just give you a VI and plead stupidity because he's not a mechanic and doesn't have to answer for himself after that. Then you're out a few hundred bucks with no way to dispute it.

320icar 07-09-2019 08:56 PM

Can’t wait to see how jasonturbo defends the cops actions

twitchyzero 07-09-2019 09:22 PM

did you get a name or dash cam recording of the conversation? it needs to go to the news outlets

please tell me this is HK or something and not local

having no front plate is not edgy enough, must use abbreviations of a foreign language to stick it to the establishment

better hope they dont start crushing JDM imports like in America because of fools like this & dukkake

Please tell us you got a recording of this... this is very clear police intimidation... news outlets would love this stuff.

GS8 07-09-2019 09:32 PM

Spoiler!

That cop's mouth is louder than any exhaust...

Harvey Specter 07-09-2019 10:38 PM

No dashcam, getting one installed soon.

I've heard from others and watched clips on IG of local supercar/sportcar owners getting pulled over for loud exhausts. I assumed maybe the person had done something wrong or had an aftermarket exhaust but now that it has happen to me it's a wake up call to be extra cautious when I'm driving around DT.

It seem to me this cop had all his bases covered when I quizzed him about ticketing me for a stock exhaust. And the thing is I have no tickets on my record, last time I got a ticket was probably 20+ years ago so the fact I was told I would receive a ticket for a stock exhaust was bit of a shock.
