What a waste of everyone's time and tax payer dollars.

It seems to me VPD has been told to target loud vehicles.

What are the rules if a car violates the noise limits from the factory? Is there an exemption or are you going to have to buy a quieter after market system lol?

Berz out.

If you buy an aftermarket exhaust, VPD will VI you for modifications.

Yes but he’s saying you’re getting a VI regardless for just existing at that point.

All manufacturers follow the guidelines set in place by whoever. If the system is stock then its stock. I think the issue becomes is that these systems are now valved, which isn't so legal I guess in BC?? Im not sure how that works.

Isnt this the proof we need to show the VPD that the violations are just being handed out without any experience in the situation?

The MVAR states that passenger cars (light duty vehicles) can only do a max of 83 dB. It basically just says that, and there is no further clarification on how exactly that 83 dB figure is to be interpreted, or under what circumstances it is to apply. That was one of the sticking points that I argued on in my VI complaint and subsequent OPCC rebuttal.

IMO, the reasonable interpretation based on the current MVAR is that when the vehicle is in operation (on the street), the maximum allowable sound pressure level it can produce is 83 dB. This is very much like how speed limits are enforced -- obviously all current vehicles have the capabiltity to exceed the speed limit. But as long as they do not exceed the speed limit when it is being driven, there is no reason why it should be given a VI.

Now, the above is only my interpretation of the MVAR. I do not agree with that law itself because I think 83 dB for a passenger car is too low. For example, when going up on a hill, I think a lot of the smaller displacement vehicles can easily exceed that limit if the driver is driving properly -- ie. not lugging the engine at 2.5k rpm at 30km/h, and actually giving the it some gas and revs.

If a stock vehicle already exceeds that 83 dB limit when it is being driven normally, then I think the owner is SOL. But again, it goes back to the 83 dB limit being to artificially low.

A bunch of cars come stock with things you can't legally use on the road, like launch control or line lock. Normally anything not road legal has to be set up in such a way that it can't be used on the street accidentally (ie NOS disconnected, light bar covered, open dump exhaust with a plate bolted over, etc) but when the factory just has it on a button that's not really doable. Similarly to dealers modifying brand new vehicles they're knowingly selling a vehicle which isn't actually legal on the road the way it is. It sucks because it's the manufacturer doing it but you can't really let something illegal be on the road just because the factory did it instead of some guy in his garage.

It's the same with many laws, they can't be overly specific. They must specific enough to be tested, but vague enough to be enforced in a variety of situations. If the laws are too specific, people can abuse loopholes. It is up to the officers to use their best judgement to enforce the rules. Unfortunately in our case, the officer has extremely strict judgement. He's technically not wrong when measuring the db levels of a stock lambo and since it's written in the law to not exceed 83db, he is completely justified to enforce it. It sucks. The entire car community is depressed because of it.

Just walked by an Aventador sitting in traffic on Burrard and it buzzes away like an entire hive of angry bees just sitting still let alone what it must sound like when he accelerates... driver looked like he was sweating a bit with a VPD Charger right behind him lol!!

The V12 is insanely loud and the thing is the earlier Aventador's were much louder whereas the Aventador S and SVJ exhaust has been somewhat muted because of new exhaust setup and particle filters but still loud.

Now if you add the factory race exhaust, which btw has a warning that it's not legal for street use, is so loud you can hear the V12 from 10 blocks away.

I must be getting old... I don't mind loud cars and all when the driver actually sends it, but if it's just rolling around in congested traffic, seems pretty silly if a car is making all that ruckus under 3000 rpm.

I didn’t say I minded it? Just saying it’s crazy loud... that said I’m surprised none of these owners of these cars have been like “fuck you!” And gone full out with lawyers, etc....... or maybe they have and we just don’t hear about it.

Oh, my post wasn't directed to you personally in anyway.
Just my observation and opinion on extremely loud cars when they're idling or just cruising at low rpms.

Any update on the "Doczilla" and meet up with Cain? He's probably the only prolific high end car owner that we know of that so far publicly mentioned about trying to make progress with this situation.

I agree I like car exhaust sounds... except (!!!!) the newer BMW’s such as the M4’s with whatever type of custom exhaust (I’m not in the know with newer Bimmers) that sound absolutely horrible and have a crazy amount of pops and crackles on decel, sounds like absolute shit and super annoying. I don’t even know how a car enthusiast can be proud of driving that.

Like you’re going into a corner and lift throttle, get a couple of pops that’s cool... but you’re going 20km/h in a neighbourhood and it sounds like a fork fell in a garbeurator ??? Gross

It's most likely the OEM BMW M Performance Exhaust (referenced as MPE in this thread). Some friends at BMW say the OEM MPE = Akrapovic

Found an interesting thread about how MPE isn't legal in Europe anymore tho.

I know for a fact the M5/M6 M Perf is Akrapovic, not sure about the M2/M3/M4
